Hungry American Tourist: English Fare Adventure (Part 2)
"Mary had a Lil' Lamb Pita with Garlic Cream Sauce as White as Snow..."
Can't say I'm the most reliable reviewer of this modest take-away establishment. Only went there once after our all-day tromp thru London. It was late, we were beat, SO hungry that our tummies felt like it was eating itself at this point. Mmm..lovely.
Friend's hubby was kind enough to call in our orders to save time. It was nice to just walk in, give our name and get our food straight away!
May I add that it was quite busy when we got there so good thing we called it in. Guess we weren't only ones not too keen on preparing dinner at home that nite. Also, place is a veritable hole in the wall. Not much room inside so folks had to mill about outside.
So, on to the main attraction. The FOOD of course!
We had lamb kebab in a pita bread with garlic cream sauce. Doesn't sound like there's much to rave about there, does it? Well, that's what I thought at first. It isn't much to look at. There's nothing fancy about it. It is what it says it is...lamb pieces wrapped in a warm pita.
...until you take the first bite! Whua! The sauce was more than a pleasant surprise to my taste buds. I'm not a huge fan of lamb, but this was nice. The sauce was so flavorful and garlic wasn't at all overpowering as it sometimes can be...this coming from someone who LOVES garlic. It was so good that I literally had to restrain myself from licking the bottom of the take-away container of the last drippings of sauce. I looked at it with yearning, thinking..."I want to sop you up with a biscuit."
But, even though I know my friend loves me unconditionally, I didn't want to risk disgusting her with a display of hyena-like ravenous consumption of my meaty-creamy deliciousness! My only regret is having ordered only
one. It isn't a very large portion. So, if you're super hungry, definitely get 2 or more and ship it out to me in California! :D
I've eaten my share of Mediterranean food in the states and have loved it
for the most part. But, this little gem of a place left a lasting impression.
I honestly cannot stop thinking about the sauce. I'm hoping to find a place in LA that uses the same kind of sauce.
This is definitely a place to go to for a quick bite to eat but to be slowly
savored...
(Note: I truly would give them 4 stars for just this one and only visit but, since I only sampled one dish, it wouldn't be an accurate overall rate. Oh, and the staff were pleasant enough. But, again, it was a quick take-away, so again, not an accurate overall review.) read more
