The staff talk about other staff in front of the patients, even the doctor does, they act like you're not present. Dino Klisovec is rude, his nurse Jennifer is rude, and if you talk back to her she tells DK. He actually came back in the room and asked "what did my Jennifer do to you?" which was weird and unprofessional. I never felt like a priority in that office. read more

His appointment was 10:20 a.m. and at 1:00 p.m. I expressed my concern to the office manager. Instead of explaining to me they had several emergencies she told me to get a retinal degree and she'd hire me!!!! SORRY but you couldn't pay me enough to work for this BITCH!!!! Just spent a few hours there; after watching everyone ELSE in the waiting room get called up, including nearly everyone who came in AFTER us (the parking lot was packed btw), my wife was also called. But that just started the really long delay. They dilated her pupils and let her sit somewhere back there in the "other" waiting area (with several other frustrated detainees), for so long that she was worried they'd have to re-dilate. Dr Borkowski was very rude and arrogant. When questioned, she admitted she had not even read my referring doctor's notes. She didn't even know why my regular doctor made my appointment. She needs to learn better customer service skills! I do not recommend her. read more

We have to let others know of several problems with care here. First off is that the post op.checkups are conducted with the opthalmology fellows who are still in training. They are probably supervised but how would we know? Also big question is how MUCH of the eye surgery is performed by the doctors who are still in fellowship training? They do NOT disclose this to the patient. They introduce the lead surgeon to the patient but obviously the actual surgery is not done only by the main surgeon if they are also training the student doctors. They should inform patients of this before surgery. Second thing is that Dr Burkowski has a poor bedside mannor. She was observed being difficult with her own office staff. Dr burkowski was verbally degrading to us when we had questions after surgery. She just seemed burned out or stressed. Does midwest retina overwork its physicians? They need to focus on work life balance and invest in healthy lifestyle. Who owns this group anyway? We hope this review is read by their business manager. I dont do reveiw's very often but thought I would for this terrible experience by Mid West Retina. First and foremost, I will say that all the doctors are extremely smart and I do believe for the most part that they know what they are talking about. I have a very complex eye with multiple surgeries. Fast forward a few years to today and more problems started that is not retina related. I went in asking Dr. Borkowski some surgical questions and her response was "yes I can do it" . I was shocked by her instatnt response with no questions asked. She said I can sign my surgery papers and I dont even have to come back in. I can just schedule the surgery. So when I called in to ask questions about after care I was asked to get a second opionion by another doctor within the same group by Judy the technician (who I will say was very kind and compassionate. I went and seen Dr. Chorich III who was very nice. He explained everything to me. He gave me his honest opinion. Even though it was not what I wanted to hear. But I will say he at least questioned me as to why I wanted to have the procedure done. He was much more compassionate for what I have gone through. He asked for me to go back and see Dr. Barkowski. And that she is looking out for what is best for me. I believe that is honest crap that he said to me. I can't possibly go back to a doctor that is so willing to do a surgery that would be more harmful to me than helpful and not even give the after math of it all a second thought. The trust of pateint doctor has been broken. I do feel like she knows what she is talking about but if you have a complex eye and need more care I would not recommend you see Dr. Barkowski. Midwest Retina has 8 different locations. My initial visit was at their Arena location. I had a sudden issue happen with one of my eyes that scared the bajeezie's out of me. My regular optometrist referred me to Midwest Retina for a possible retina tear and potential need for emergency surgery. The whole event was very frightening. I was very grateful for Midwest Retina's seeing me on a Friday afternoon. My follow-up visit was with their main office in Dublin. I had a follow-up visit scheduled for the Arena location, but I called later and rescheduled it for their main Dublin location. The staff were very accommodating and the Dublin was a more convenient location for me. The staff, technicians and doctors were all very professional. As I never had any problems with my eyes before, everyone were very helpful in addressing all my questions. They explained what happened, what they were testing for and acted with integrity in describing what they were concerned about. The Dublin office was pretty busy during my follow-up visit. However, I cannot say I waited any out of the ordinary than any other specialists. Billing and insurance filing were all handled smoothly. I am grateful for the professional services Midwest Retina provided and would not hesitate to enlist their help again. read more

BE PREPARED TO WAIT! I was scheduled for a 3:40pm appointment at the Dublin location. I arrived at around 3:30. I was taken to an examination room almost within the first 5 minutes. GREAT! The in-take nurse/PA asked me a few questions and prepped my eyes for the doctor. She dilated my pupils and asked me to read a chart. After about 5 minutes I was asked to wait in a second waiting room. You can tell how many are ahead of you by counting the waiting patients. It is basically "first-come/first-served". After about an hour and twenty minutes, my name was called and I was taken to another examination room. I then waited for another 40 minutes to see the doctor. I was out after 5 minutes with the doctor and left the office at 5:30pm. I had good news and will not need to return unless a problem arises. All I can say is: Be prepared to wait read more

I was referred to Midwest retina by my eye dr who had seen issue with my left eye. Well I get there and as everyone else has said you wait for two hours, for the dr to come In, and in my case she came In Looked in my eye for about 5-7 mins and said oh it's schesis it's very low risk we we'll see you in six months to check back in. My mom being a mom had tried to ask a question and the dr acted very offended at all of our questions as if she didn't have time to sit and answer them! The worst part Is I went for a second opinion at The retina group, and what Midwest said was a just one layer split into two thinner layers was actually a partially detached retina, and not in just my left eye but in my right eye as well! So I could have been blind by my next visit to Midwest. I'm completely mortified that she couldn't take a little more time and assess my eyes further.. god knows my insurance is paying her a damn good amount!!! read more

The first time this happened I thought there really had been a "retina emergency" that caused the back up. The second time ....I now know better. I arrived on time for my 11:00 appointment and left at 2:10! The waiting room was filled with angry people. There was no food or drink available. I have always been treated professionally and I am completely satisfied with the treatment I receive. I recommend this practice.

Their physicians and nursing staff seem professionally competent and very adequate. However, their administrative staff is unacceptable. This concerns making appointments and timely & politely answering their incoming phone calls and related questions, setting follow-up appointments, time waiting on phone, etc. They generally lack courtesy and friendly demeanor. Especially at their Post Road, Dublin, OH, main location. When you complain to the administrative manager, there is no improvement and no seeming application of any improved quality control. They need to implement and benefit from a first class telephone etiquette course for all their administrative staff. No patient should be treated rudely, placed on hold for endless hold times while waiting for telephone customer assistance. It probably would work better if the current weak adm staff didnt have to try to multitask attempting to balancing/juggling phones/in person check-ins by having more dedicated separate in person receptionists versus incoming phone call takers. They should consider having their own retina surgeon doctors/specialists (shareowners) personally randomly & routinely call in to their main phone number to observe and see how their incoming phone calls are currently and routinely so poorly handled. Or, have a secret shopper service to objectively call in to evaluate the incoming calls and how politely & efficiently & professionally they are handled. And, at their Post Road location, they have forced on patients unsanitary inhuman kiosk patient check-in system. Like the ones McDonald's tried but discontinued after they scientifically confirmed unacceptable levels of fecal/bacteria level surface content and customers found unacceptable. They attempt to rudely force patients to use that lame patient check-in system, versus simply having one of their five separate front desk receptionists simply verbally, efficiently and politely check in patients. Currently it is a very disparate frustrating system with quality professional retina specialists but without matching level of front desk and telephone administrative support. And, it is so frustrating to the customer that it causes them to consider looking for a new separate competing retina specialist where there is greater higher quality patient administrative support! Midwest Retina was in my medical network. I had been having an eye issue for over 3 months experiencing pain and discomfort! I went here with confidence thinking I Found my place to help me! Wrong... My initial visit was ok but the 30 day follow up visit terrible after getting through check in and paying my Co-pay i waited 20 minutes and was called back to be told i was 13 to 17 patients behind and they had not requested my blood lab tests. I was told they were behind due to emergencies... I have had my issue for over 3 months and felt my eye issue was just as important. I was told 1.5 to 3.5 hour wait.... So I collected my Co-pay back and left.... Treated like a piece of meat by a staff that I felt did not care about me or my eyes!!!!!! read more

I have taken my mother to this place many times. Each time, we go the wait is 3 to 4 hours long. There are so many patients there it reminds me of some type of factory. That however, is not, the worst of it, they have cancelled her appointment three months in a row. I know, for some patients, that would really hurt their possibilities of their condition worsening. One time she went, and the her appointment had been canceled by a postcard we never received. THEN, because of the three cancellations, I made an appointment for her at the Cleveland Eye Clinic, I faxed the request to have her records faxed there one week in advance. The day before her appointment, I called the office to make sure this was done. Well, the lady that was in charge of this had been on vacation for a week (I guess no one takes over her duties when she leaves) she just got back that day. I was able to leave her a voicemail stating I needed to get those records over to Cleveland Clinic asap as my mothers appointment was the next day. Guess what, traveled all the way to Cleveland and do you think the records were there? NO - At the time of the call, I also asked to get into the patient portal, in the event that this would happens.
