They gave my daughter the wrong dose of medicine. She was prescibed a toddler dose, she is almost 10. This lead to a longer than necessary course of illness, extra trips to the pediatrician, and fights with insurance over getting more medicine. While the provider was very kind the lack of attention to detail is concerning. You'd be better off waiting to see your primary doctor. read more

I scheduled an appointment online for a Covid vaccine and a flu vaccine. I received a text to confirm, which was a good reminder and comforting as the patron. I arrived and was instructed to use my phone to scan a QR code. Reception was poor in the lobby so after trying for a few minutes, I asked for the WiFi password due to the limited reception. Was disappointed to learn there's awareness of the reception issue and there is no code. I was so even told others couldn't complete the forms online & used paper. Clueless as to why they still instructed me to try too. After completing the paperwork, I waited in the lobby with quite a few others for about 30 minutes. Once I was called back, the process was quick. There were no Covid vaccines offered and the only flu vaccine offering was by shot (nasal option was not available). If I had known these aspects before I drove there for the appointment and filled out the forms, I probably would've sought care elsewhere. That's the reason for the rating. read more

Went in with the flu (in my house 2 confirmed). I asked the staff for a pcr flu test, because I was sure the symptoms were coming, rapid test were not positive, and wanted to get ahead of it. I don't want to isolate my newborn any longer! They made me feel stupid, like there is no such thing as a pcr flu test and denied me the tamaflu which is the obvious solution. I soon called back after the obvious happened and I became symptomatic and contagious. Still they denied me tamiflu. The clinician i spoke to should not work with people given her inability to listen and her vindictiveness when asked to go out of her way. I once wondered how people get to the point of mistrusting Dr.s and science so much they turn to bad resources and make dangerous decisions. Come here and the convoluted communication is purposeful. Horrible. The front desk affirmed that my insurance was accepted and that I owed the facility nothing for my visit. If I had known I would receive a bill for close to $300 afterwards, I absolutely would never ever have gone through with the visit. The office gave NO INDICATION that I should expect a bill. They just took my insurance and said I had no co-pay and it is OUTRAGEOUS given that I spent a maximum of ten minutes with a crabby RN and ten minutes with a MD who confirmed that I had the flu. They were elusive about accepting my insurance and what I would owe for an office visit. I wish I absolutely never went. read more

This place is normally fantastic, but one of the providers they have now is absolutely horrific. I could hear the provider being incredibly rude to an elderly man through the wall, and then she was the same way to me during our time together. Ruta Martaviciute acted like coming in for a minor illness was a MASSIVE inconvenience to her, even though that is the point of urgent care. I have always loved this place, and the other providers, but it looks like I'm going to have to find another local urgent care going forward. I had a positive experience at Midwest today. My asthma was acting up and I was coughing nonstop on Friday. On Saturday, early morning, I went to metro express on Fullerton. The doctor prescribed an antibiotic and I had a severe allergic reaction to it. My arms were in so much pain all night. I couldn't sleep. The next day I decided to go somewhere new. I came to the Riverforest Midwest Express. I'm so glad I did. The doctor gave me a nebulizer treatment for my asthma and a steroid injection. Both helped the Asthma flare up. I felt that I could breathe and talk again without coughing. I'm glad I came here. It's super close and convenient. The front desk attendant and the nurse who took my vitals were caring and professional. Thank you!!! read more

I had a great experience this morning! Thank you to the whole team at this River Forest location! I woke up with a scratchy throat, cough, and runny nose so searched online for a place to get a Rapid COVID test, and ideally an exam, but really just thought I needed a test. This is truly my first case of sniffles since the pandemic began! But I'm an oncology patient who works with babies, so I thought it best to see someone straight away and get tested. I booked an exam/test in advance in-line, at 8:30 for a 9:25 appointment. This is key. If you have access to a computer, BOOK AHEAD!!! Otherwise, you will most likely wait as there were 10 people on the waiting room. The check-in staff were great! Alicia the Medical Assistant was awesome!! She recommended I get a strep test, too, which had not occurred to me but was super advice. I gagged and coughed through the strep swab and a COVID test, but Alicia didn't flinch and was so patient and kind. Nurse Teresa was fabulous, too. She did her exam and gave me the good news: both tests are clear. I just have a normal cold. She counseled me on supportive measures. I was back in my car by 10:05!! Parking is free. The facility is super clean. Everyone is masked. I will definitely return here if I need an immediate test. Walgreens and CVS are fine, if you can score a COVID test time, but all of their locations within 25 miles of Oak Park were fully booked for today. So I was very relieved to score a same-day COVID test spot here and also very grateful to have seen a provider for an exam, as I forgot we can be sick with something other than COVID. read more

We met with Nurse Tricia who went above and beyond to make my son feel comfortable, and urged us to go to the ER for further care. I went for simple (covered by my insurance) covid test. First I was asked to submit CC info. When I asked why? They said "our system is down. We need this info just in case it's not covered by your insurance" fine, submitted. I walked in today needing to see the doctor. My experience from being greeted, triaged then meeting the doctor Nicole Harris was superb. The young lady at the front answered all my payment questions. The nurse was efficient and friendly and finally when I met with Dr Harris she was very attentive I felt she did a very through examination and asked the right questions. I could see and feel her genuine care and concern. Best part was very little waiting time as when someone is not feeling well the worst is having a long wait time. So happy i was attended to quickly. I could honestly say I was a little concerned because I did read other reviews about this place and I was a little worried. I love to always have my own experience as sometimes things get "fixed". If that was the case here I don't know. But this place is definitely worth the visit and I hope they continue to do better and better. Also, my daughter's desk mate at school caught strep from her, which would have been 100% preventable if we had received notification of the positive test result when it was ready. I am a physician and want to convey my deep disappointment at the care I received at MEC River Forest as a patient. I had an adverse event in July at this clinic that was not handled in a professional way. I came in with gastroenteritis and wound up with an air embolism from peripheral IV fluids and was sent emergently to the local emergency department by ambulance. I was observed for several hours until I passed the air and was discharged to home. I required follow-up with my primary-care physician and received an echocardiogram to ensure that no damage was done to my heart. A few problems: 1) The nurse practitioner seemed unsure of how to administer peripheral fluids even though this is a bread-and-butter procedure, particularly at an urgent care. She obviously didn't know how, turns out-- the bag of fluids was placed on a pressure bag, and when the fluid was done running in, air that had been inappropriately left in the bag was then pushed through the line and into my body, resulting in severe chest pain, shortness of breath, and a cough. After a few minutes of struggling to breathe, I noticed the air in the entirety of the IV line, from the fluid bag to the angiocath in my hand. The NP removed it (there was apparently no other fluid in the facility at the time-- you would normally reprime the line and administer fluids for an air embolism), and carried the air-filled tubing to the garbage can, insisting the entire way that there was no air in the line. Shortly thereafter, she called an ambulance (appropriate) as I could not breathe. 2) No physical exam was conducted throughout the encounter, minus when I asked the NP to auscultate my lungs because I thought initially I had aspirated. As I came in with a chief complaint of nausea and vomiting, I should at bare-bones minimum had a cardiopulmonary exam and abdominal exam completed to rule out other causes of nausea and vomiting (like appendicitis). Additionally, this calls into question of if Midwest Express Clinics is either not billing for an appropriate level of care, or if they are fraudulently recording physical exams that they are not doing and billing for them. I have requested my medical records and have of course, not received them. 3) Afterwards, the patient advocate worked with the clinic to pay my ambulance bill and ED visit bill. However, I never heard back from the staff itself, and this is frankly what I'm most angry about. No one (like a medical director, quality improvement personnel, etc) ever called afterwards to debrief and say, "We're sorry that you experienced that, and we will do XYZ to ensure that it doesn't happen to another patient". This air embolism put a ton of strain on the right chambers of my heart-- that's why I had such profound chest pain. I have a healthy enough heart that I survived this event. I am lucky in a different way-- the reality is that I'm likely part of the 85% of the population that doesn't have a tiny hole in their heart that they are born with (a patent foramen ovale for those of you at home). 15% people DO have this hole in their heart that connects their right and left atriums-- in the case of an air embolism, right heart pressures increase enough that air crosses goes to the left side of the heart through the hole and is pumped systemically. Air into the brain makes a stroke. Air into the coronary arteries causes fatal arrhythmias and heart attacks. If this happened to a different person, they could have had a cardiac arrest in an exam room at Midwest Express Clinics, with personnel that can't even identify florid air in an IV line. Devastating. I've asked the patient advocate several times to connect me with the medical director. I've called the clinic. Nothing. Radio silence. How horrible to have experienced an event like this, only to be ignored as if this wasn't a huge, potentially life-ending medical error. I hope that you consider other urgent cares in the area for your health needs. This place clearly doesn't have patient safety as a top priority, and you and your family deserve safe, competent care. read more

I needed a covid test and was able to secure a spot online last night for 9:15am this morning. I read that this was not an appointment time but rather my spot in line, and I also read a bad review about wait times, but I live very close and the convenience was worth the wait since I am stuck at home anyway...so I arrived fully expecting a delayed wait time. I called when I arrived at 9:10, answered a few basic questions about my symptoms over the phone and they called me right in. I was seen by a technician and a doctor, both were very pleasant and thorough. The nose swab isn't as bad as I have heard.. thanks for being gentle :) I was back in my car by 9:25am. Amazing experience! At the time, my 2.5 year old daughter was feeling awful and we didn't want to wait for walk-ins hours with our doctor the next day. I'd read that the Midwest Express Clinic had great pediatric care but I was blown away! Our doctor's name was Jasmine (didn't catch the last name) and she was very kind and took her time while meeting my daughter. She spoke to my daughter with respect in that she asked her questions (instead of just me), she walked her through the check up, and even let her use the stethoscope. She was very thorough when explaining the diagnosis and next steps. The nurses were also amazing. They greeted her and she got stickers on the way in and the way out. If I ever need urgent care for my kids, I would not hesitate to return! read more

Came here for my 6 month old son who had a cough. We went in for an office visit, but they suggested he take a flu and RSV test. Guess what? They still charged us for the office visit even though they just swabbed him for the tests. The doctor was condescending and told us to go to the wicker park location for a chest xray so they could rule out pneumonia, even though he had no symptoms of pneumonia. I feel so ripped off by this place. I only went here because I needed bloodwork done ASAP and my primary wasn't in town. The receptionist was new and had no idea of what service to suggest to me when I told her what I was looking for , she kept going to the back constantly to ask the nurse questions. I paid out of pocket because she said my physical wasn't covered by my insurance but a few weeks later my insurance billed me on top of what I had paid. They refuse to give me my money back although I never got my results , they claimed to have emailed them to me but I never gave them my email. Found this urgent care clinic to get a covid test at - almost 3 months ago. My family wound up getting 4 covid tests total. They also charged us 4 office visit fees plus a surcharge for visiting outside of regular business hours. I've called their billing department 4 times now and they haven't resolved a name issue and follow up documentation for our insurance company. Oh and, without my approval, they went ahead and charged me $450 for 3 of the covid tests. (Don't worry, marking those as fraud as they haven't done what they said they would do over 3 weeks ago and didn't call to request my approval.) Horrible upcharging! Pros: They have an X-ray machine on site. They prescribed antibiotics, which seemed to help my persistent cough. They saw me within a day, despite being swamped due to the holidays and Covid. The nurse and medical assistants were friendly. Cons: They suggested a different diagnosis and only did an X-ray at my request. They missed something on the X-ray initially and called several hours later to correct the diagnosis. They forgot to send the first prescription to the pharmacy, and they made an error in the second prescription, which the pharmacist caught and corrected. I asked twice for a copy of the X-ray and did not receive it. read more

Maybe because it was a Sunday but I don't think I'd even come back on a Monday! The medical tech who gave me the "pre-check" before I saw the Dr. was a disaster! She asked me about a meds I took, then kept asking me how to spell them because she couldn't find them in the list!!, then when she went to take my temp she put the thermometer in my mouth without the safety cover, and said oops! Wtf!! Who knows who else she's done that too and did she even clean it after???? Omg!! Then couldn't figure out how to use the blood pressure machine. She must have pressed the button to squeeze my arm 6 times until I finally ripped it off and said clearly this is not working... after my fingers were blue!!! Then waited over 40 minutes in the waiting room, mind you this is with a scheduled appointment. Got up and left! On my way to the Walgreens Clinic!! So much for trying new places!! read more
