I decided to try this barbershop today after seeing all the great reviews, but unfortunately my experience didn't match the ratings. I paid a premium price expecting a clean, professional fade, but the result was uneven and poorly blended. When I pointed out that one side didn't match the other, they tried to fix it but only touched up one side, leaving the other side still noticeably off. For a shop with such high reviews and prices to match, I expected way better attention to detail and consistency. The service wasn't rude, but the quality definitely didn't live up to the reputation. MWB (Justin) is my bro's go to for cuts. I was visiting for the holiday and gave them a shot; I'm glad I did. MWB is the masculine, bricked out, hip barbershop you've been looking for. They even have a little bar set up. Yes, like many handsome men, I'm specific/particular about my fades. MWB delivered. Jakob was quick to warm up, spent about 35 minutes going over my fade, tightening it up, and even educated me on how to better cut my cow lick in the back. His hardware (quantity) was impressive! It was my first time, and while I did get a good cut, I did not like the customer service of Justin. Made appoint and did not realize the NFL Draft was going on. It would have been a plus to have had a phone call or text to say hey, it is pretty crowded down here, so you may want to come early. I was late, and I did call to indicate I was late going to be. I showed up late 15 mins, and Justin, it was too late. I have the next appointment coming soon and can't do it. Not that I am sorry or anything, or push his next appointment off to one of the other people. Just said asked one of the others if they could do it as a walk-in, which I was not. Wow, great vibes from the first moment you walk in the door. I called day of to get my boss a cut before some headshots the next day and they were able to fit him in. I've had my hair cut by Midwest Barbery before and, while expensive, they've always done a good job. However, I must sadly declare their customer service to be poop. Today I made a reservation through Google assistant and was texted with a confirmation shortly thereafter, I was also emailed reminders of my appointment a couple of times throughout the day. Unfortunately no one bothered to text or email me that my appointment had been canceled because the stylist was out for the day. They had seven hours between the time I made my appointment and the time of the appointment. Seven. Hours. Please, Midwest Barbery, if I'm going to be paying $40 for a haircut, show me a little consideration! And that's not all. The reason I used Google Assistant was because when I tried to make a reservation on their website I was mandated to declare what my tip was going to be for my upcoming haircut. The options were 15%, 20%, 25% and custom. Unfortunately, "Custom" would not accept 0 and the reservation could not be made until that field was filled out. I am a habitually good tipper but the idea of being strong armed into declaring the gratuity before services are even rendered really irked me off and certainly made my irritation over my stealthily cancelled appointment much stronger than it otherwise would have been. Shame on you, Midwest Barbery. In short, if you want to drop 40 dollars + mandatory gratuity to be treated like you're forgettable and disposable, may I suggest Midwest Barbery. My gf and I were walk-ins and they were able to take us pretty quickly. We weren't made to feel weird about being two queer women with short hair at a barber (it actually happens a lot!). Nice establishment, for the most part, good people. My hair was cut by Alicia and it definitely could have been a better experience. I asked her to tidy up my long hair, which was around 8 to 9 inches long at this point and I wanted to keep it long. She cuts it initially, but, the sides didn't match the top length, so she cut the sides. Then the top length didn't match the side length, so she cut the top. Then once more the sides didn't match the top so she cut the sides. And, you guessed it, the top didn't match the sides. Each time she asked me if it looked alright. I said it's fine each time. Then she would say "are you sure," then I would point out the OBVIOUS problem each time. She ended up cutting off around 4-5 inches of my hair. I have gotten many bad haircuts in my day so I didn't really mind. A good haircut is rare, I've only had one. I went home and tried to style it in any way. It looked like a cut that 40-year-old women get when they want to change things up. I could not fix that for the life of me. So I ended up calling and getting a recut, which they accommodated. That is the only reason why this is not a 1-star review. During the recut, I asked for a generic fade, something easy so she couldn't mess it up (still Alicia). Before the cut, she asked what was wrong with my hair and I told her. She said it was because I was indecisive... indecisive. It wasn't indecisiveness, you just kept making egregious mistakes and asking if "it looks alright." She didn't take any fault in the worst haircut I have ever received. The end result of the recut was just fine. Not great, just on the brink of being good. The problem with the recut is she speed ran the haircut and got hair all over my face and clothes. It was as if she was getting revenge for wasting her precious time. The other hairstylists seemed nice and people would walk out and their hair looked good. I can't speak for the entire establishment, just for my own experience. I will not be returning. read more

FINALLY there is a place that "gets it" obviously most of us don't use our fathers/grandfathers barber shop, or the 10 dollar haircuts a chains. At the same time no one wants to go to any of these new, "hipster" if you will barber shops where the dude cutting your hair is looking at his own in the mirror than he is yours! thats where Midwest Barbery comes in... just genuine, straight forward, good people, who can't to give you a great haircut. Sounds simple but no one is doing it like these guys. Very professional staff but at the same time I felt as if I was getting a cut at a friends house, just a super comfortable setting.
