In this case, it was time for new brakes and a hose had a crack in it. He gave me a fair quote (which I approved through my dad) and said he could work on it and get me back on the road. Fair enough, easy fix. Instead, they chopped it off on the passenger side. About a day later, the noise was back. I crawled under the car and could see the drivers side was doing the same. I took a screwdriver and bent the shield out of the way and noise never returned. I'm just baffled that they didn't know how to fix the issue easily or without a less destructive way. After a phone call where I was told service was closed until Monday morning but could use the drop-off service, I had the vehicle towed to Town Chrysler. I left a brief note stating the basic issue and the keys, with a promise to call and answer questions. I was contacted before I could call and was promised a rough diagnosis later that day. As promised, I was contacted that afternoon. Bent pushrods, probably a timing chain failure. We agreed on a engine replacement. Expected time for the new engine was 5 days; they had it in 3. Installation and checkout took about a week and a half. They were very thorough and kept me informed along the way. My service rep, Doug, was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. Overall, a great experience for an out-of-towner.

My car suddenly started leaking oil recently. I took it into H&D Auto to be looked at, and they…read morediagnosed it as leaking head gaskets. They told me that "both sides are leaking pretty bad" and that the job would be $2500 plus. I got a second opintion at another shop and it turns out the issue was simply that the oil pan plug was loose. When I thought about it, I had just had an oil change when the leak started. We surmised that the shop that did the oil change didn't tighten the plug. I asked the mechanic how the head gaskets looked and he said they looked fine. No issues. No leaks. He sent me on my way without charging me. The oil leak is gone. My understanding is that the long time owner, Harry is selling the shop. He is phasing out and letting the new owner take over the work. I think when Harry was running H&D, it was an honest place to take your car. It doesn't seem to be the case anymore.
