My son struggled with his handwriting, pronunciation, and letters prior to attending Carden; his progress after just a couple months is incredible. His teachers believe in him and are so patient, they recognize his strengths and that has given him so much confidence. I have nothing but good things to say about this school; we live in Davis county, and the 30 minute commute is well worth drive!

However, all…read moreschools in America are like this, and we are honestly lucky to have this one, a high-budget school offering creative elective choices. Yes, PE can be unbearable, but it's a common experience across the state. We are fortunate to have activities like skiing, sledding, and snowshoeing in our curriculum. Some more negative news has been discussed about a project where students are expected to read three books from assigned genres. Many have complained that this has negatively affected their interest in reading. I can relate to this, but I must say it is SO important that we explore different genres. Reading three books over two months is not an unreasonable request. I understand that some students may struggle to achieve this goal, but many of my peers have discussed this concern with educators and have been excused from the requirement. It's also important to mention that it's truly not hard; students have options to read graphic novels, which, as I understand it, are quite simple to read three of. I've also seen complaints about the counseling office, but I must remind you that this is a public school, and we genuinely have it better than most. Honestly, I feel a bit petty writing a review about a school, but I'm bored.

Bullying is a widespread problem that is not solved in a way that will make the school feel safe to students. A report form is provided for the use of informing the school and counseling office of bullying, though it does not resolve the issue. I, myself, have experienced torment various times and reported it, though it has in no way resolved the issue and has impacted my life with anxiety and a few panic attacks that affect my learning. They don't understand the needs of physically or mentally disabled/injured students. I have a 504 along with ADHD and maybe autism. Though despite this, teachers expect students to be highly responsible for tasks such as turning in permission forms, charging computer every night, etc. lots of children have problems with remembering, even with help. With physical needs, however, they still don't seem to care unless the injury is severe. Students who have minor but painful injuries are still forced into PE. They don't raise awareness on students who are LGBTQ+. The school is NOT homophobic, they are supportive, but as a demigirl, I am offended by the way they use pronouns during Student of the Month. They do not ask any students what they prefer to be referred to as, and instead those with different gender identities do not receive what they wish to be viewed as. HOWEVER, despite the complaints I have, I believe Ecker truly has the potential to be a great school, (which it kind of already is, despite the bullying) but we still need to address these few minor issues, and we're almost there. I still enjoy this school a lot and it truly has amazing educational services that truly help students succeed. Their counseling office is so helpful as well as comfortable and I love the way you can go anytime you want.

It is very difficult if your child does not fit the "mold". Diversity isn't celebrating but rather discouraged. There is very little inclusivity if your child does not fit the box. They tend to call out rather than in and have a shame based disciplinary structure. There are a lot of scholastic gaps as well.

This is the oldest public charter school in the state of Utah. It's for grades 5-8 and focuses on…read moreintegrating art into the academic curriculum, as well as at least one art (drama, dance, visual, music) class each day. All three of my boys attended grades 5-8 at SLArts and have gone on to excel in high school and college. Although it's a school with a big focus on the arts, it's also academically rigorous. SLArts has been teaching CPM (college prep math) for years and the SLC School District barely started to mandate this approach last year. SLArts prepares students to think critically. It fosters a supportive environment where being different doesn't mean bad. Your best shot to get in is entering the lottery in 4th grade for the following 5th grade year (100 spots available). You can still get spots in 6th-8th but there are much fewer because of the advancing grades and low attrition. The lottery usually closes in early February (check the website for details). They also have information nights where you and your student can come check out the school, ask questions and get a feel for this one-on-a-kind urban school.

Don't tell me it can't be done. The teachers and staff at Churchill do what so many say cannot be done on a daily basis and they do it with compassion and engagement. It's clear they really care about the future leaders they are molding and they truly WANT to do the work they do. After transferring my daughter here, walking in the halls I heard children laughing for the first time in years. It brought me to tears. These students are genuinely happy at school. It's nothing short of miraculous. This is how school should be. Not the gladiator arena so many schools have become. Thank you. Thank you a thousand times over! Churchill has made a monumental positive impact not just on my daughter but on our entire family.

Last year as I was a 6th grader kids were making fun of me and my teacher heard and didn't do anything which was in science class. I had issues through out the school year and the counselor didn't do anything to help. She would just threaten me about not coming back next year instead of helping me. How does their staff make 60 through 80 thousand a year?! Like what! Just so you know the tours start at 3:30 once school gets out! It looked like they had guided tours, but we ended up doing the self guided tour. They even give you a little map/souvenir to help you find all the places around the school! Everyone we encountered who worked at the school was so sweet. I bought a HSM shirt at the front office, and I absolutely love it! I got to see everything from the cafeteria to the front of the school to Sharpay's locker to the iconic gym where Troy Bolton sang Getcha head in the game. It was an experience I'll never forget, and it made me want to watch high school musical all over again! You need to come here if you loved HSM and if you're in Utah!
