I recently had an appointment at Midtown Dermatology. The address is Six Forks Rd but you enter the parking area from Sandy Forks Rd. I was very pleased with my visit. Everyone I encountered from scheduling the appointment to check in to the exam to checking out was so friendly. The office got me in for an appointment in a week as there was a cancellation. There should be an option for ZERO stars here. I am a 72-year-old Veteran, and the VA referred me to M.D. I called to make appointment and provided all info required to become a new patient but had to wait for the VA to confirm my VA status and coverage. After waiting 3 weeks to hear back from M.D. I called and was told that Midtown Derm "has not accepted VA patients for some time now". The following month my wife called for an appointment for herself, was accepted as new patient and scheduled appointment to be seen 3 months from that day. Shortly after I was told that the VA patients were not accepted, my skin condition worsened and I called M.D. to schedule an appointment as a new patient outside of the VA paying consultation fee out-pocket. I was told that Midtown Derm was not accepting new patients. So, I visited M.D. in person for an explanation for accepting my wife but not accepting me days later as new patients and just as it appears in many other reviews, the staff was extremely condescending, arrogant and felt offended that I had the nerve to go there to complain. A short time later my wife's appointment was cancelled via e-mail stating that " We feel that another Dermatology provider may be better suited to meet your needs and expectations" my wife replied asking what were the needs & expectations that could not be met before she was even seen for the 1st time. A 2nd e-mail arrived minutes later stating, "After a thorough review of your patient history, you cancelled an appointment on three separate occasions", which is false as there was no reason to cancel even once. We wrote a letter to Beth Shultz on April 27th, 2026, to once again ask what were the needs & expectation that M.D could not meet before being seen and also asked for documentation on the 3 cancellations quoted. Beth failed to respond. On May 20th, 2026, I called to speak with Beth Shultz and was told bluntly by Dawn Bryant that Beth did not want to talk to me. I said that it would no longer be necessary to squeak with Beth as it was now crystal clear that Beth's petulance and arrogance would not allow her to act in the best interest of her practice and respond to a sensitive and legal issue involving potential discriminatory practices as well as an apparently incompetent staff. Fortunately, there are many competent, respectful, honest and ethical dermatologists in Raleigh to choose from, so spare yourself the aggravation. read more

This the most TERRIBLE PRACTICE I HAVE EVER BEEN TO AS A RETURNING PATIENT. Dr. Jaclyn Schavone, PA-C stated that insurance would not cover my treatment due to NOT being cancerous? It was an ok experience for me, until last week I forgot an appointment and they never send me a friendly reminder for the follow up visit. But sure enough they we very proactive to send me a no show $50 fee invoice. I paid, but you can tell they don't care about retaining any of their patients. I will be moving to another office and also making sure that an MD examine me. read more

I moved to NC a few years ago and Midtown is the third dermatologist that I have tried. The first two were pathetic. Dr. Schulz-Butulis was fabulous. Very thorough and she explained everything as she did it. I'm trying to make sense of some of the negative reviews as I have nothing but high praise for Dr. Schulz-Butulis; especially after the first two dermatology clinics I visited after moving here. I have a history of melanoma and it was refreshing to find a doctor who took it seriously and appeared to be genuinely concerned for my well being. I am thrilled to finally find a dermatologist that I am as confident with as I was with my doctor in Ohio. Brie, who was assisting the doctor, was equally fabulous. Condescending and lacking compassion. They spend more time making sure to collect payment or telling the patient that they don't know what they are talking about. Not the worst but we will be looking for better. An improvement would be a friendly staff who is kind and caring even in difficult or unique situations...that would go a long way. Anybody can be friendly when things are easy. We may go back if this is the best out there but for now what a disappointment that they couldn't have handled my daughter's situation with more empathy. read more

The office is nice and has a good quality to the atmosphere. However, when I met with doctor Sandri Johnson, FNP-BC, I was far from impressed. I went in because I was informed by a top hair replacement franchise that I didn't need hair replacement treatment or plugs due to the fact that I have a dermatology problem with my scale. So, I when to Midtown dermatology as a referral. Additionally, I had two growths on my skin that I felt needed to be looked at. When she examined the scars on my skin, she made me feel like I was wasting her time. When I informed her of the hair regrowth referral, she was very dismissive. She told me that usually, she sends patients to them not the other way around. I informed her that they determined that I have a dermatology problem. She said there is nothing she could do. After persuing the issue with another professional, it was discovered that I had a sub-dermal infection that caused my hair loss. My has has since started growing back. Midtown Dermatology is very unprofessional and treat patients as if the role was revered. I thought that doctors took an oath to do no harm!!! the treatment I received has clearly caused me harm! read more

I have had great treatment from Dr. Beth and her staff. Getting a timely appointment is easy, whereas at the previous practice where I was a patient, not at all. I have never had to wait but a few minutes to be seen. All explanations and options are clearly stated so I can make good decisions about care. I am very pleased to be a patient there. read more

This Dr., Dr. Beth, is a condescending patronizing, blaming and shaming, insulting person who has an ego SHE can't even get around to honer her hippocratic oath to DO NO HARM ! She is just short of a charlatan, and make no mistake about it, will embarrass and humiliate you as she's sending you to her office person so you can pay , in my case, at least upwards of $100 dollars for " perscription " Gobbeldegoop, after telling me my problems were old age, I'm 60, and sun damage.DUH ! Unprofessional staff and doctor. I went there for some redness on my face skin. They gave me some treatment and asked me to come back in 2 months. The treatment started to make my skin terribly irritating and much worse, so I stopped using it, and called them to schedule my follow-up appointment but still scheduled it for 2-months checkpoint since I was traveling before that. When I went back, the doctor was super unsympathetic, and said "well your skin seems OK now", while my skin was basically the same exact as before. I had also asked the doctor in the visit "Do you also have any experience with hair thinning?" and she said "For men all that can be done is Rogaine". For the failed treatment above, and my question, I was charged $262.63, and my insurance paid about $100. I accepted responsibility to pay my first visit cost even though it was absolutely a failure, but I am not going to pay for the follow-up visit since they basically did absolutely nothing and did not even apologize. However, they claim I was treated for 3 things and have to pay. The doctor has 1-2 assistants running around with her writing down absolute nonsense that they later claim to be "treatment". And they do that so they can charge you basically. I had never seen as unprofessional, rude, poor listener, and unsympathetic doctor and staff as in this place, and would never ever go there again. Do yourself a favor and find a better doctor. I would give 0 stars if possible. read more

I have been very impressed by Dr. Beth Schulz-Butulis: she found a skin cancer that my previous dermatologist had overlooked; and she also recommended a lotion that worked on my ultra-dry heels [previous derm had given up]. Her office staff is very polite and professional, yet friendly. Another plus is that, unlike many in her field of practice, she is in the office almost every day -- not "only on Tuesdays & every other Thursday." Given my gratitude for her major accomplishments in my healthcare, I can offer only minor criticisms: my diagnosis & suggested medications are written down on a small piece of paper by her assistant at the end of my visit. I am doomed from the start if expected to keep up with that for [months?]. Like all dermatologists, medical instructions given to the pharmacist (and then me) say "use as directed." I have to mark my many dermatological tubes & bottles with a sharpee. That's all I have! I could stretch my review to say I dislike the music in the waiting room or whatever, but the fact is: "I like her!" And her staff. read more

Dr. Beth Schulz-Butulis is very thorough and does an excellent job explaining what is causing and issue, what can be done to help, and which products will be the best to prevent a reoccurring problem. Her bedside manner is professional and attentive. I have gone for chemical peels, skin cancer screenings, and mole removal surgeries. Many of the reviews about them are quite accurate. I was charged for a full visit when all they did was look at my mole and tell me they needed to test it. I told them I couldn't and they sent me right on home. I called twice to speak with the office supervisor and received no return phone call. I'm more than likely going to report them to the Better Business Bureau. read more

I have had eczema since childhood, but over the last few months it had flared up badly. Nothing that had worked in the past would touch it. Now, just a few days after my appointment at Midtown Dermatology, my hands are clearing up beautifully. I've been going to Dr. Schulz-Butulis for almost a year and have had several procedures done at Midtown Dermatology, including removal of basil cell cancers. I couldn't be more satisfied with the treatment I've received and the attitude of those who work there. Twice I had an emergency situation arise and they responded by working me into that day's schedule without delay. Everyone in the office has been professional, clear, helpful and supportive. After I first went there, I recommended them to my husband. His visit and exam resulted in a serious procedure which took him out of the office to another surgeon. My 12 year old was treated for acne by a new Dermatologist at the practice. She prescribed several harsh, over the counter medications to her (topical). I was skeptical, but followed her instructions. My daughter's face became red, peeled and she was in so much pain she couldn't sleep. This should not happen. I haven't had the trouble others have posted about. My experience has been good overall. I've gotten seen in a timely manner, paid what I expected since I am aware of what my insurance will cover. It's nice if they can provide information about the expected costs, but they don't make the decisions, the insurance company does. They filed it as they were supposed to. I had a mole removed and it's left no real scar, which I am pleased about. Other issues were also addressed. I went to another Dermo who couldn't get me in for over 6 months and were ridiculous to deal with as they were unbelievably busy. I wasn't a fan of that office. read more

Midtown Dermatology is great. The whole staff is awesome. They have always taken time to talk with me and make sure that I am comfortable with everything that is being done, said, etc. I recommend Midtown to everyone that I know that needs a dermatologist. I have never written a review before but I felt that I was never really a patient at this practice but just another number. The doctor is cold and never even shook my hand or introduced herself. She probably is really smart and is good a memorizing facts but is a rather crappy doctor. I felt she never really listened to my problem but just categorized it and then tried to prescribe something and then had to leave. My symptoms still exist and I highly doubt this practice could ever help the situation. The office feels really unprofessional and cold. If I could give it zero stars I would. Great office and staff. I was in and out very quickly, the staff was extremely accommodating and even offered free coffee! The atmosphere was very relaxed and providers were timely and straight to the point, which is how I prefer it. Dr Schulz was timely and offered several options for my issues. This was a horrible experience! I do NOT recommend going here - horrible service and I was shown zero respect or compassion. I felt like I was merely $$ and not a person with a concerning skin condition. I was rushed into a room, 15 minutes late, and when she arrived in the room, she was rude and showed zero compassion. She couldn't be bothered to learn anything about me or my skin history before shoving a piece of paper in my hand and was told to read it and pickup the products at the desk. When I asked questions, she was visibly upset I was trying to understand what the products were and how the regimen was to be followed. Her answers and tone reflected the annoyance she was outwardly portraying. She was incredibly unprofessional and disrespectful towards me. Although I was the paying customer and had been waiting past my appointment time, she made me feel as though I was holding her up and the entire experience was rushed and uncomfortable. I have not been treated that poorly....ever...and I will not be back! I suggest you go elsewhere, too. read more
