That's why it's frustrating to see the direction things have gone less than a year later. For a gym of this size and caliber, the sauna and steam room are shockingly small. They feel like an afterthought compared to the massive footprint of the rest of the facility, and it's disappointing considering how much members are paying. What stings even more is being hit with a $75 per member increase in under a year. As someone who supported the gym from day one, it feels like loyalty isn't valued -- instead, members are left to absorb constant price hikes. Life Time has the potential to be the premier club in the area, but issues like these make it hard to justify the cost.

I found the instructor's to be friendly & hands on, teaching the basics which at that demographic is just about all you should and can expect at the "Run after butterflies age". Soccer and field hockey also available on the other side of the divider for coeds. Adult roller hockey seems to be quite a hit here with multiple men's league's taking place weekly on many night's right up to wee late hours. The ring and field are much smaller than regulation so it's perfect for youngins, but maybe not so much for adults. Cost for 12 weeks was about $11 per week which is good if you ever shopped rink or ice time. The facilities comes complete with locker and shower rooms, but the water does not get hot or even luke warm. My son cringed after every game knowing he was about to be frozen with liquid nitrogen. Fairly clean. A small burger type grill bar at your disposal with reasonable prices for basic grill & soda fare. The big bonus has to be the full bar upstairs perfectly situated to view your kids or friends while you get tanked. Definitely a congregating spot after games for the guys and probably where I would be found, lol. If your in search of a fairly affordable limited sports indoor facility especially for you kids this may be what your looking for.

The roller hockey rink is on the main floor and the window just above is to the bar that gives a view of the entire rink. I got stuck paying two gym fees at the same time because Atlantic Club lied about giving me a few hours grace. I would not have joined another gym if the rep had been honest in the first place. When I saw the charge on my credit card, I called the gym. According to the membership rep, no one should have told me that the computer system could be changed. There was one person who had authority to change the computer system and that was Kevin McHugh-COO of Genesis Health System. I have emailed Kevin McHugh four times and only once did he get back to me to tell me he would get back to me. The Atlantic Club passes the buck and hopes you forget that you've paid them any money. I have not forgotten. I have tried in good faith to discuss this with them. They have my money; they no longer wish to speak with me. Consider this before you give them your credit card number.

The same with trampoline, a fun approach to teach discipline, strength and confidence. My kids love being here and always leave confident and feeling loved. Because trampolines can be dangerous if not used appropriately the coaches will correct and redirect kids to use the equipment safely. Other reviews cite coaches being stern, however, this environment is so safe (and it needs to be to prevent injury) and I feel very comfortable and confident that my kids are being trained safely and properly. The owner aggressively yelled at our daughter and even went so far as to grab her arm--completely inappropriate behavior, especially for someone working with young children. What makes it worse is that despite clear footage showing the incident, the owner denied it ever happened and has refused to take responsibility or offer any kind of reimbursement. All the children run through the hallway--ours was no different--but instead of addressing it with the parents, the owner went straight to the child in a confrontational and unacceptable manner. We have never been treated this way at any children's activity before. If you can't handle working with kids respectfully and calmly, you shouldn't be running a business for them. I would not recommend this place to any parent who values their child's safety and emotional well-being.

This Retro is run by owners Alan and Stella and they are to be commended for their commitment to running a gym that operates very professionally while maintaining a hometown feel to it. I really appreciate the fact that the owners are onsite making sure the gym runs smoothly. They are very friendly and available to their clients. Their gym is very clean and the locker room smells good. The ladies locker room often has fresh flowers. They have a great selection of equipment. I especially appreciate that they have two excellent rowers and four excercise bikes with arms that provide more of a full body workout. The other gym I went to only had one mediocre rower and two of those bikes which meant oftentimes you had to wait to use them. And that was at a much larger gym. They have an outstanding training team that really care and go above and beyond led by Tom Wiley. Without his encouragement I wouldn't be much healthier today and 40 pounds lighter. They also provide nutritional assistance which I have found immensely helpful in helping me attain my weight goals. Trainer Elyse Kakos has been especially helpful in guiding me thru weight training and providing meal plans and recipes. Her passion to help clients holistically goes above and beyond any experience I have had or heard about being provided at any other gym. I would continue at this gym just for the excellent training provided to me that is invaluable. It's not expensive! Compared to many other gyms I think you get the most for your money at Retro Middletown. I also like that there is a wide age range of people there and people at all different levels of fitness. It's a very welcoming atmosphere I don't feel intimidated and people are polite. Lastly, I like their location with Walgreens right next door and Shop Rite in the same plaza. It's very convenient to work out and then go and get my groceries. For these reasons I think Retro of Middletown stands out and is an excellent choice!
