I finally had the opportunity to visit the new Middletown branch of the Louisville Free Public Library System. WOW! What an improvement from the original Middletown branch. The interior is small, but packed!! It has a bright and welcoming interior that features several walls that are white boards for children (or anyone I suppose) to draw and doodle on! To the left is the younger children's section (complete with a cut-out niche in the wall into which children can go to read!) and to the right is the adult section. Further down on the right are areas dedicated to younger and older teen selections. There computer stations located in all of the sections. The central area holds the librarian's desk and two large unisex/handicap accessible restrooms, and a water fountain. The book selection is small due to the small space, but anything is available via interlibrary loan. The librarian was quick to share that the library does partner with two digital resources through which one can use their library card to borrow ebooks, audiobooks, and magazines (via Libby), and books, movies, music, comics, TV and more (via Hoopla). The library is located off Old Shelbyville Rd close to Eastern High School and Starbucks. Parking is ample and even includes an electric car charging station!

Younger kids are very noisy and a small library but if you get a card you get access to every Jefferson county public library and Libby app.

Stone steps lead up to the main entrance; there is one around the back as well with a wheelchair ramp. Book drops in the back and front- if you enter through the back, you get to see what events are going on in the various libraries (and grab a copy of the LEO and Audience, if you're into it) while the front treats you to the books of the month as well as what the Crescent Hill Book Club is reading. The librarians are very nice and quite helpful- they are always willing to take the time to explain how to properly use the copier and print things out, as well as hand over whatever knowledge is available about google, gmail, and various word processing programs. There is a reading room on the main floor in the periodicals section. Sometimes the odd person thinks it's OK to take a phone call in there, but it isn't. You get the stink-eye, you get spoken to, and you get unpopular, fast. It's also tempting to photograph articles in the current magazines for later reading/use. The librarians don't mind actually- but they do want you to read what you take. There is also a reading room downstairs amidst books on tape/CD, but they are quick to recommend Libby. The library seems to have a great collection of cookbooks, decent adult fiction selection, skimpy poetry, good history section. The children's area looks fun- there is a castle and a children's librarian that sits in there. One note- for a Louisville library, the horses/horse care area is a bit lacking.

Part of why I want to join the Crescent Hill Gang with Emily and Morgan is this being my home library.

This gem of a local establishment is not just your typical library--it's a vibrant hub that offers a really cool makerspace and access to an impressive collection of audio and e-books. The well-equipped makerspace at this library is such an amazing added feature for those with a passion for creating and exploring. Set up with a wide range of tools, from a Glowforge to a recording studio to vinyl printers and cutters to sewing equipment, it's a paradise for makers of all kinds (and all ages when accompanied by an adult!) The makerspace staff is knowledgeable and supportive, ready to assist with projects and offer guidance. You're able to reserve times at the various spaces and the staff provides classes so that you can master your craft before trying a new skill for the first time. The space is a true testament to the library's commitment to nurturing creativity. In addition to their cozy spaces and large selection of print books, your library card will also give you access to Libby, an e-book and audiobook wonderland featuring so many titles that you can download directly to your kindle or e-reader (so cool!) The library also hosts a series of incredible free community events that I would highly recommend any local folks check out (tip: if you sign up for their email list, there is a link to the calendar where you can register for and save upcoming events.) Basically, I'm wondering why I haven't stepped foot in the library before now - with so many amazing resources, events, learning opportunities, and more, this is a must visit for locals.

My 3rd born daughter was attending her first dance class across the road when we decided to explore the area. This freshly updated and nice library was open to 8pm so it made a perfect spot to to waste some time and have a bit of educational fun for me, my wife and other 3 daughters. Very spacious and well organized library. You walk In to a large area with computers and seating and the rest of the sections are around that area and clearly marked and separated making it easy to find your area. We had our younger ones with us so we found the adorably decorated young children's section in the very back corner and let the youngest play and look at books while we relaxed on the chairs. Overall nice library that offers everything from books, computer access, musical cd, dvd, blue rays and more. Very sleek and spacious and updated place. My daughter appeared to enjoy dance so this may become our hang out spot on days she has her practices.
