Went in and was over charged for a item ticketed as one price. All the items were ticketed the same. The counter person knew without looking that the item saxophone reeds were more than advertised. They were an additional $6. No explanation or offer to honor the price on the item. read more

Jim at middlesex music was amazing!!! I came here yesterday to get a music book for my 5th grader. Jim knew I was going to need to rent a snare drum kit for him but I was unsure of it so I left without it . he jokingly said see you tomorrow. well guess what he was right! I went back today to get the snare drum kit that my son conveniently forgot to tell me I needed . Jim set me up with everything I needed we had a quick laugh and I was on my way . I run a small recording studio in downtown Middletown and we're so lucky to have Middlesex Music Academy nearby. They seem to have a very successful and busy lessons program. The couple of teachers I've talked to in between their lessons were very personable and had been with the shop for a long time. They also seem to do a good business of repairing instruments of all sorts. Several musicians I work with on the regular have had instruments or amps satisfactorily repaired there. They don't have anything super fancy in the way of instruments, but they have a well rounded inventory of student and intermediate level instruments. For my (and my clients') purposes, they keep their accessories well stocked and keep convenient hours which is super helpful. I've also noticed that they're very charitable to the community, helping out local non-profits and churches with their musical instrument needs. Great business, great people! read more

I signed up for a piano lesson trial online. Their site is very confusing and it's not clear if the lesson is in-person and online. I called them, left a message but they never called me back. In the day/time of the lesson, I called them 3 times because I was having problems to contact the teacher. The guy who works there, Jim, clearly doesn't have any customer service skills. He was rude and unpleasant. He didn't make any effort to help me, told me a was confused and nobody else had problems. I just canceled the future lessons there. It's easier just hire a private piano teacher. Hopefully I will never have to deal with this guy again. read more

I had always wanted to learn to play guitar. I stopped in Middlesex Music Academy just to look. I was greeted by an extremely friendly young man who answered all my questions and,more importantly, didn't try to sell me anything. As it turns out, he's the owner. I decided on a medium priced acoustic guitar and signed up for lessons with an amazing teacher. I cannot say enough great things about Middlesex Music Academy. read more

We were staying over in Middletown when my daughter broke a string on her violin. We took the instrument into the store, where the sales associate took a look at it, quickly found the string, offered to put the string on, and tuned it for free. The whole process took 5 minutes and cost...drum roll please..four dollars. How can you beat that? And the associate was so polite and friendly. If we lived nearby, we'd use this store exclusively. read more

Just an owner change... my brother had $300 worth of gift cards to this place, and he called and asked if he could use them since they changed owners, and the manager said YES on the phone, as long as he came by Jan 31. Mind you they kept a log of gift cards. When my brother got there weeks before Jan 31, the manager would only accept $50 worth! My mom told him that they said they would accept all of them. The manager said that "he didn't realize there were so many gift certs out there" when asked about the log of gift certs (because it was all written down) he did not know how to respond. Eventually my brother got him to accept half of the gift cards. What bad customer service. Don't tell someone on the phone you will accept the gift certs and the next day change your mind!!!!! I would give Middlesex Music Academy a 0 if I was able to. I called to inquire about a $150 charge when I haven't been confirmed by John the guitar teacher. I made a request to Matt that Tuesday was my preference but John was booked so he scheduled Thursday at 6pm. I received a text and email from John yesterday that he had a conflict for Thursday and offered Friday. I responded via text/email that would not work and inquired if this was temporary or permanent to which I did not receive a response. I let John know this may not be a good fit then. I called today to have the charge refunded and Jim proceeded to call me names, saying I was yelling & screaming over the phone and I was being rude. No need to go into the dramatics but Jim needs a lesson in manners, telling the truth and understanding that being a manager does not give him the authority to behave poorly. Never once did I raise my voice but did correct Jim several times throughout the conversation all because i asked for a refund. Extremely unprofessional and a bad look for Middlesex Music all around. I will be taking my business elsewhere. Inexcusable & theater worthy performance by Jim today folks!!! read more

My only experience here was renting an instrument for my elementary school student. The rental plans are great, the person that took care of us was knowledgeable and took his time with us. There were plenty of families in the store when I was there, and we were all renting instruments for our children - the gentlemen there knew which books were used by which band teachers, etc. It was a very smooth process. I am sure that we will return over the summer for lessons. read more

I broke the echo plate and tubes on my Fender Bluesman Jr. amplifier after knocking it over and was incredibly dismayed. I brought it into Middlesex Music Academy and they did phenomenal and wonderful work. You can tell that they owner of the shop really cares of the shop because he actually listens to the customer and their requests. The technician also deserves much kudos - incredibly talented. I am very happy with the work they did and will be going here for all of my instrumental needs and you should too. read more

I stopped in today to purchase a 6" piece of cord to restring a valve on my bass trombone. They had the material, but wouldn't sell it to me. They would not have made anything on a $.50 item, but they passed on the chance to gain a customer and maybe some positive word-of-mouth advertising.
