DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY/ACCOUNTANT firm AS YOUR TAX ACCOUNTANT. I REPEAT DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. YOU WILL REGRET IT. MAYBE HE IS GETTING TOO OLD AND HE SHOULD HIGHLY CONSIDER RETIRING. HE CAN NO LONGER DEAL WITH A HEAVY WORK LOAD. I am so upset i don't even know where to begin. We hired this company back in 2017. They were on point and helpful in the beginning with filing our taxes and giving good advice. But fast forward to 2021 and 2022. He filed our taxes extremely late and missed tax deadlines for both years, causing us to get hit with major fines for late filings. He was fully aware of us purchasing an investment property and needed additional loans to complete the project. We informed him that our tax returns needed to be completed for the year 2022 in order to get qualified for the loan. It's bad enough he waited all the way until August to be ready to file our taxes, he requested our information in August.. We sent the information to him to file in August 2023, and he filed extension in October of 2023, and still missed both extensions. 1 for our personal tax returns, and 2 for business tax returns. In OCTOBER OF 2023, We applied more pressure, explaining to him if our taxes are not filed, we will have to hire another accountant. He basically f**KED us by filing a ZERO tax return on both our personal and business tax returns, he E-filed the returns at that, (SMH). At this time we were unaware what happened, and didn't know how hard it would be to E-file our taxes, after the filing of the zero tax returns. Until he told us to Hire another account. So we did just that, We hired a highly professional accounting firm. Who helped with all of our needs in 3 days. As our new accountant goes to file our taxes. Our tax returns for both business and personal tax returns were returned from the IRS. Stating that the taxes were already E-filed. THIS WAS A BIG PROBLEM FOR US, Because the bank needed our filed returns with all the numbers and income that we received. The bank actually pulls IRS Tax transcripts to verify the tax returns and income. Now we have to wait 4 to 6 months for the 1040x amendment tax returns to be updated by the IRS ON the tax transcripts, PREVENTING us from not being able to secure the loan needed to COMPLETE our investment home project. (SMH.) We begged this man everyday since August to please file our tax returns. He never did. I had to contact my bank recently to reverse a payment I made to him in August due to services never rendered. I think Bruce needs to hang it up and retire. leave the accounting and tax game to the young people. It's time to travel with your wife and sip Margaritas on a beach somewhere. This game is no longer yours my friend. It pains me to have to make a comment like this online. But you have causes us pain and disappointment. and i want you to know it was me. hopefully this will be a lesson learned and for others to be aware of you. But on a humble note thank you for the services you did provide over the years for us. But these last 2 years I'm sorry to say that the experience we had has not been a pleasant one. Hi Eva, you are not alone in your assessment with Bruce from Middle Island Accounting. He is currently doing the same thing to my husband and I. We started off on the right foot and then he did a complete 360 and starting charging us fees that are outrageous and inconsistent. We are currently in a legal battle with him because of his dishonesty, untrustworthy and unprofessional behavior. I truly think something mentally is going on with him and I would not trust any personal information to this accounting firm. My husband and I went to Bruce E. Ermolovich at Middle Island Accounting for the first time last year in 2016 for our personal income taxes. He came as a referral from a local and we decided to use someone close to home. He charged us $250 and the process went fairly well. This year, we received a postcard from Bruce personally asking us to do business with him again this year, with a handwritten price of $300. We felt that price was fair and did not see why we wouldn't return for a second time to do our taxes with him. When we arrived to do our taxes with him, the process was very dragged out. Bruce argued with my husband about his back-up documents and changed some aspects of the returns after speaking with my husband multiple times throughout the year and giving him tax advice on what we can use to help us get the maximum tax refund. Mistakes were made clearly in front of us, as I noticed he entered incorrect dollar amounts in incorrect sections of his work, which I had to point out to him before he submitted to the IRS. During this meeting we were promised he would file our taxes that day and everything will be squared away. After a lengthy 2 hrs in his office, when we were ready to write a check for $300 (proof picture posted along with what we did pay) he looks at us and tells us $450 "because it took him so long." I was very upset that he raised his price $150 with no warning. My husband told me not to say a word and write the check, which I hastily did. A month prior to him lying about his 2017 income tax fee, we inquired with him about a family member who had tax issues and we asked how much it would cost to review her documentation and help us resolve her issues accordingly. After explaining this situation with him in detail, he told us that this would cost in between $250-$500. I thought that was reasonable and mentally prepared myself for this cost as I did with my $300 price for tax returns that all of a sudden turned into $450 for absolutely no reason. After a month of holding her tax returns and doing absolutely nothing but finding out about a warrant which he already knew and took about 9 keystrokes and 3 minutes of his time, he looked at us AFTER we handed him our personal check of $450 for our returns and said $900. We thanked him and walked out due to sheer disgust and lies once again about his pricing. I had my husband call him while we were in the car driving home within 5 minutes of leaving his office and tell him "no thank you" and asking when we can come back to pick up her documents. He not only ignored us, he created a fake auto response that came in 2 hours later about waiting a week to pick up our family members personal documents which are sitting on his desk. We didn't want animosity, and agreed we will come in a week. During this week, we texted him inquiring about why our taxes we not filed on the day he said they would be filed which is the same day we paid him. NO RESPONSE. Texted again the day after, NO RESPONSE. Next day, NO RESPONSE. Very unprofessional and just as appalling as his unkept office and dirty restroom. A week later, while we were out to lunch with our family, he sends nasty, childish, petty tough guy texts to my husband demanding $150 for no services rendered, claiming he was working on the family members returns but was not. So not only does he not respond to his clients when they have questions, he sends "tough guy" texts. My husband responded that he is not paying $150 and he wants his documents ready for him to pick up the next day. Bruce agrees. 20 minutes later, he had a change of heart, the same way he changes his pricing. Tacky and tasteless none the least. He TEXTS my husband claiming that he's throwing the documents in the mail. When my husband asked him another question regarding our 2017 tax return, he told my husband that he will not be scanning the returns as he did the prior year and told my husband to take the $150 we owe him and go scan them himself. Bruce has always taken care of me and my family since we started going to him several years ago. Before we went to Bruce, my mother had originally gone to another accountant who did them completely inaccurate one year. Not only was he very helpful and knowledgeable about how to fix the situation but he went out of his way to do my mother and father the favor of making the corrections. Everything got resolved and we stuck with him. He has never given us a hassle about payments and gets everything completed in a timely fashion. It was imperative to write a review concerning Middle Island Accounting. After reading two negative reviews I knew something was wrong because my outlook on this firm is totally the opposite. We all know that there is always two sides of a story. So when I went back to pick up my completed tax return I mentioned what I read on Yelp. I was informed of the firms position on what happened and hence understood the situation. Having the full story only furthered my appreciation of the EXCELLENT work Mr. Ermolovich and this firm does. They make sure you are completely informed and help you understand your tax situation. Another thing I love about this firm is they remember you on your birthday and the holidays. Mr. Ermolovich is a dedicated man who also donates his time and expertise to the less fortunate and contributes to our veterans.
