RUN do not walk away from this place. If I could give a 0 I would. They are swindlers with a smile. They literally have left hardware in my truck in addition to using substandard parts. We used them to to brake pads which needed to be replaced quickly. Under the advice of a former employees of theirs who remembered us and happened to have moved to Meineke where he was now our service tech, we took it to Midas for the brake pads to be replaced under our existing warranty. As apparantly required by their warranty we paid labor on the pads and they insisted that the rotors had to be replaced as well as they were shot. Over an additional $1000 later we walked out with new pads and rotors Fast forward to now. We are in the same boat. My husband spoke to the manager who stated everything world be covered and made right. We would just have to pay 195 for the labor. We made an appointment for the repair. However once we arrived, we were told the pads need replaced but they will not honor their warranty unless we pay them an additional almost 600 plus labor to replace the rotor also. I mentioned that we world just go to Meineke, whom have shown themselves to be ethical and competent, for the rotors and have Midas repair the pads under warranty. The manager then explained that if we do that it nullified their warranty. He said of anyone else touches the rotors Midas will not honor their warranty for the pads. Since they aren't honoring it anyway we made an appointment elsewhere to pay them to do the job correctly for a change since Midas is unable. Since, I have spoken to others who have had similar experiences but just didn't speak up. They just did as we are and had another company fix Midas's problem. BTW. The manager pulled out the warranty he kept referring to and it says NOTHING about the rotor at all especially as a prerequisite. Also the rude and condescending attitude of management especially regarding his and his tech's "work hours and effort" were the height of unprofessionalism How they get even 1 good review is beyond me. read more

Professional scam artists, they pretend to work on your car, just so they can try to bait you to replace an expensive repair that doesn't necessarily need replacing. I requested they tighten my recently replaced serpentine belt that was installed too far away in a crappy mom /pop shop and it was squealing again the same day, and they said it's not their problem so I went to another shop and I had to shell out another good chunk of change for the same service and so far it's been a week no issues so far. These businesses really need to stop playing dumb and stop scamming people. I'm tired of it. Not going to pay my hard earned money driving an old beat up but reliable car and get swindled. read more

If Paul and his crew sell you rear tires make sure to watch them carefully. I took my car in to this midas on November 18th to have them check on a loud scraping sound on the cars front breaks. They could not locate the source of the scraping, however did insist i needed two new REAR tires. When removing the back right rear tire they took several minuets and several tries with a hammer or sledge hammer to get the tire off. After mounting the two new REAR tires, replacing the two front tires they gave me my keys and paid my bill and drive away. 20 minutes later the cars low tire pressure light came on. I drove the car back to Paul's midas shop on Halsey St . Paul's crew did turned off somethings told me this sometimes happens when new tires are installed and something to do with cold air pressure etc etc. I was told it shouldn'thappen again. The next evening on my drive over the boarder Iinto Washington, again fir the second time time same beep noise and check tire pressure light come on. I drive back to Portland, for fear Paul's technicians broke or damaged the TPMS censor on that back right rear tire. I did some research. The next day was Monday. I called Paul's shop, told Paul the tire pressure light sensor came on again for a third time . Paul told me he didn't have enough crew and to take my car to a different MIDAS, he didn't have any time to look at my car. I immediately took my car to Rick's MIDAS on Happy Valley OR. Rick is the mngr at the a happy Valley midas store. I told Rick how the light sensor keeps coming on since alfter I car had Paul's shop place near rear tires on the car. Rick suggested they put the car up on the racks to look at the cars breaks both in front and back and check why the censor continues to come on. Rick tells me his technicians found the source of the scraping sounds on the front breaks. I took out a MIDAS line-of- credit and $600 later they showed me pictures of the damaged breaks etc. Remember, on November 18th at the first MIDAS shop on Halsey, Paul's technicians could not find the source of the scraping noise. One week later I'm told at this midas they found the source and i paid them to fix tyke breaks. I had too. Was this a scam between two MIDAS shops? Ohh and their is more. I drive my car out of the Happy Valley MIDAS feeling disgusted after spending nearly $1k on two different MIDAS shops in so many weeks. I drive out the driveway and yes, the tire pressure light came on due more a 5th time!. I walk into Rick's showroom to let him know the light came on again. Mr. Thomas told me very nicely to take it back to Paul's shop where the problem started. I took it back to Paul's at Halsey where Paul told me he'd have to have me return back the following Monday. I brought it back. Paul told me to drop it off. I refused to drop it off. Paul earlier told me I had to take it to Toyota or some such nonsense . I saw bs when Paul refused to admit his technicians damaged, or destroyed the TPMS censor and didn't want to fix them? I told Paul I will wait in his showroom until the car was fixed. I don't trust you with my car. Paul chuckled and said, " this could take all day." I answered, "I brought food, I can wait all day." Twenty five minutes later Paul comes out into the showroom slams my car keys down on the counter and said it's fixed. Explained what needed to be done and they typed it up on the receipts. ALWAYS ALWAYS get a RECEIPT from midas and similar establishments. I figured THIS time he must have done what he said would take all day, only 25 minutes to reset bla bla bla... why he didn't have his technicians do this the three other times I had to drive back to his shop... only Paul, Mr. Thomas and Rick know why they tried to scam me, break the sensor and say they didn't.. Every time I pay the MIDAS credit card bill will remind me to check recent YELP reviews before I patronize any business. read more

Horrible experience with both this location and dealing with corporate to try and get it remedied. Short version is that I had my exhaust repaired while on a trip. It lasted 160 miles because they used one hanger and I was nearly stranded in the middle of Oregon if I hadn't jerry rigged it. Work was shoddy beyond words. My local Midas won't honor their warranty and advised me to go to competitor. Left paying for another exhaust system made by a competent company on top of this junk. Tried to complain to corporate and received the runaround. This Midas lied to corporate and said they tried to contact me. Then I was told I had to take it back to have them "inspect" the exhaust. I live 400 miles away. So I got screwed out of $300. I've accepted it. I just hope to keep someone else from falling victim. Regardless of whatever follow-up response Midas posts below this review. I have not and will not reach any type of resolution on this issue and my review stands. Go to Meineke or literally any other muffler shop in Portland and the work will most likely be better. read more

Made an appointment for 8:00 got here early and I am still waiting for them to drive my truck in at 9:00. Going back to the dealership for my truck. All I wanted was a price quote and because I asked him his name he became defensive and it being 3 sec phone conversation. He purposely picks up the phone just to hang up. These guys on NE Halsey were my first car-garage experience in PDX. I've been to a couple others around or spoken with others over the phone; no other midas I've been to compares! The customer service that Roger and the shop techs provide is impeccable. They take care of jobs efficiently and expertly; accommodating for any requests I've had. They've even taken me into the shop once to check out what kind of work they did when aligning a wheel that was out of whack. 2 weeks ago I called to schedule an oil change/service on my 4 runner- note I have been to other Midas stores and have had excellent service. I chose this location this time as it is closer to my work. When I called to schedule - I specifically asked if they would rotate my tires. The man said yes that is included in all our service packages. Ok. Today at my appointment. I saw that they did the oil change. I was reading so I asked if they rotated the tires because I didn't actually see if they did it. They said no because the sensor said it didn't need it. I said I would like to have it done- so they pulled my car back in the garage. I said that I was told that I would have my tires rotated when I made the appointment. Then a man came out from the back and said to me " you are not a very good person are you?" and said my name. I was taken aback and said please pull my car out now - I will never come back here again. I began to cry. The gentleman who then checked me out was very nice I should note. Also, the other Midas locations I have visited made me feel very welcome and they always drove my car at least around the block after any service or work on my vehicle to make sure everything is good. That is good customer service. This location did not attempt to do that. When i arrive to my next destination I looked at the Courtesy Check list paper they gave me and it clearing is checked that they only visually checked my tires it does say anything about a rotation sensor. The main reason I wanted a tire rotation is I thought it would be a safe thing to do as I am enbarking on a long road trip next week. This became something more that just a tire rotation issue when he insulted me for wanting a service that I would have gladly paid for. Should'nt the customer get what they ask for? Last Saturday I had a front end alignment scheduled. I went to spirit Halloween directly before and got my costume for the night. I had went immediately to my appointment at 1030am. I got my alignment done, came out to my car and everything was rearranged. I had bought a costume, makeup, and fish net stockings for my costume for that night. Well, everything in my car was rearranged. My costume that was sitting on my passenger seat, the stockings were now on top and facing the driver seat. I had a note from my mom that was face down. 3 pairs of sunglasses and they were all rearranged. I thought, weird but whatever. I start driving and my car is pulling to the right just like it was prior. So I call, Mark tells me to come back. They said everything was perfect and my tires were different heights so they switched some around to have the fronts match. Great, perfect. Car is still doing what it was prior. Whatever, I'm annoyed but I'm over it. Go home and start to get ready for my Halloween party and I go to put my stockings on. Gone. The clear bag that they came in with the cardboard is just empty. I call and Mark answers again. I tell him what happened, he says that he swears on his life that the guy wouldn't do it. I proceed to tell him that I had JUST bought them a little bit before coming to my appointment. He said he would give me the money back to "make it right" but still refused to say sorry, I know this is strange, but proceeded to keep saying he swears on his life that guy didn't do it. The money isn't the issue. It's the fact that this world is full of freaks and creeps and I can't even go get work on my car and some sicko goes through my stuff and takes it. 0 out of 10. Very rarely is it a joy to have to deal with a mechanic. If you are having to see one in the first place, there is a problem and already stressing you out. These guys, however, were FANTASTIC. Jason in particular was incredibly helpful. They took the time to explain all of the options available to us, the benefits and drawbacks of each and even helped us out with a minor issue that had been a major annoyance. We walked out with detailed info as to what was wrong, why it happened, and what needed to be done to fix it. Even though we didn't spend a dime, we were treated like VIPs. BUYER BEWARE!!!! All of a sudden my brake pedal went to the floorboards and the brakes were very spongy. I called and spoke with Marc. He said that he could look at it and probably fix it the same day. I bought it in and it turned out to be a simple broken brake hose on the driver's side front. A very easy fix. When the job was finished, Marc handed me a bill that had 2 brake hoses on it, with a parts charge of $85.12 ($42.56 each). When I asked him about this, he looked me straight in the eye and said "They come in pairs, what am I gonna do with the second one?" Then he walked away and came back and handed me the second brake hose. When I got home, I called numerous parts stores in town and they all said that you can buy only one, that you do not have to buy them in pairs, and that they cost $11 to $14 each. Midas seems to have a 400% mark-up on parts, and Marc seems to charge customers for HIS mistakes in ordering. Looks like he ordered two hoses by mistake and then charged me for it. He charged me for parts that were NOT put on the car. That looks like fraud. And had I not have mentioned it, it looks like he would have kept the second part, and then I would have a good case for fraud, i.e. being charged for parts that were not put on the car. I'm thinking of going to Small Claims Court for the $42.50 but it seems to be more trouble then it's worth. Maybe I will contact the local news, they do stories on business practices like Marc and Midas. Total bill was $244.09: $42.56 for an $11 part at Midas' 400% mark-up (x 2 for the extra part that Marc seems to have mistakenly ordered), $143.00 labor for a very simple job, and $15.97 for maybe $4 of brake fluid. I've been loyal to this Midas through 10 years, 2 locations, 5 cars, and thousands of dollars. Today we brought in our car due to it sounding very loud when driving. They found a set of ball bearings needed replacing. Good news! They had replaced these same ball bearings 9 months ago and they are covered under the Midas lifetime warranty. My catalytic converter was stolen, I contacted this shop for an estimate. They gave me a great price, and I made an appointment for 1pm. Day of appointment the tow truck didn't arrive in time to make the appointment. I called them to let them know my car wouldn't be there, they told me as long as it's delivered before they close, they'd get it in as soon as they could. Fast forward to around that day. I get a call from them within 10 minutes of my car getting there. They said it was already in the shop and they'd had a chance to inspect the damage and they would be able to do it for the original quoted price. An hour later I got the call that my car was ready to go, and that they also went above and beyond and reinforced the new catalytic converter in order to make it harder for someone to steal it. After driving 40 mins total to them to drop the car off on our Saturday, they called us hours later to say it was actually going to cost over $900. Mechanics were rude to sat the least. I was over charged 30% on labor and parts. Got a brake job and was handed my previously functioning parking brake in a box. Had to demand they fix it. I brought my jeep in for an oil change, diagnoses of a cooling problem, and replace a sensor. I thought they did a great job for a good price. They were unable to diagnose specifically that was fine I had something to go on. The next morning, this morning I went out to an oil puddle and when I call amour it Roger tells me don't cuss you fucker and hangs up. I went to Midas and on the way my jeep shows low coolant. I generally fear going to places like this waiting for them to rip me off, but the guys working here surprised me. They got me in pretty quick, especially with several people ahead of me, and they had a great deal on a brakes package, plus the free tire rotation with an oil change. They even went above and beyond and fixed my blinker light for me. (I'd had the new bulb in my car for weeks waiting to be replaced.) I hate car trouble, but they took care of everything while I enjoyed the free wifi. Roger was really knowledgeable and considerate, and kept me up to date while I waited. I hope I don't have to use this type of service anytime soon, but if I do, I'm going back to this Midas on Halsey. read more

Jason was nice until he started to cry because my observation of the mechanic Mike was less then par . Not sure I even got good service. My appointment was for 4:30 pm I checked in at 4:20 pm they started my car at 5:10 pm.. I saw the mechanic sitting in the office maybe he was on break?. I saw him wandering around seemed lost to me. It was just unimpressive. I'm not saying they aren't honest, just not customer focused. Or maybe they aren't needing new business. Seriously the best car service I've ever had! They don't try to take you for your money, overcharge you, or tell you that you need something when it's not true. I've had my oil changed, brakes inspected, abs and traction control switch fixed, and bought tires and had them aligned. They were cheaper than everyone else, and I always call at least 3 other places first. They are very honest with you. The last time I was in, a sensor needed to be replaced because it was damaged. Because they didn't catch it on the first inspection (it would have been tough to do so since it was inside the tire) and had already given me a quote for everything, they switched it out for free costing them around $50 for the part alone. Seriously save your time and money and come to this Midas for any of your needs! Make an appointment and it's even more convenient for you. read more

I'm not one for writing negative reviews but in this case it was earned. We are from Ohio, and had our vehicle towed to the Halsey St Midas after it broke down during a road trip in that area. We chose this Midas because we use a Midas shop back in Ohio and have always had excellent service. Unfortunately this shop did not measure up. The vehicle came in via tow truck after we lost a wheel on Rt. 5. The Midas shop replaced a wheel bearing and some damage done to the rotor and sent us on our way, giving us the confidence that the car was fixed with them even knowing that we had 10,000 more miles to go on our trip. They even filled out their "safety inspection report" marking just about everything "green"... Not even 72 hours later, the same wheel fell off the car again!! Thankfully the Halsey location wasn't our closest Midas location this time. We still had some confidence in the Midas brand because of the excellent service we receive in Ohio, so we had it towed to a different Midas shop. It was given a thorough look over this time. There was a broken control arm and several other issues. We had the broken parts of the control arm and it was clear that there was a pre-existing crack. They did the same "safety inspection report" that Midas Halsey street did, and amazingly found that there were actually several deficiencies. In fact, there wasn't much "green" about the vehicle... By knowing about the issues, we were able to fix them and finally get safely on our way- but only through a different Midas than this one. My frustration is not because Halsey Midas did poor work, it's because they did incomplete work and gave us a "green light" on things that obviously weren't checked. Because of this we literally endangered the lives of our family and children. It was a serious oversight on their part and one we won't take lightly. We did contact the manager, Roger, at Midas Halsey to try to resolve the issue. He only told us that he stood by his work and it all must have been a coincidence... Hmm, losing a wheel 72 hours after it was "correctly and completely" repaired. You be the judge. read more
