Overall, the discovery museum was cute but nothing to make us run back for a second visit. We are used to Kid's Play in Torrington, CT, Kid City in Middletown CT and the CT Science Center in Hartford, CT and this just didn't stack up. It's $14.50 per child and adult, we visited with a 3yr old and 7yr old. The staff was friendly when we paid but that is it for interaction with them, during our visit we didn't see any of them on the floor of the museum cleaning or straightening up. Most children just run from activity to activity and parents utilize it as an indoor activity during winter/inclement weather. You can stay as long as you want as it's not a timed entrance but our kids were ready to go after an hour and half. It's a one done experience for us. Parking is conveniently located next to the building.

We loved visiting the children's museum. My 4 year old and 22 month old had a blast exploring each and every inch of the museum. I would suggest wearing light weight clothes bc it was very hot when we were there. My kids favorite thing to do/play with there was the air vent with the scarves. You place them in the air vent opening and place a mallet made out of a tennis ball in the opening and the air pushing the scarves through tubes up in the ceiling then they fall down onto you and your little ones. So much fun!

This place is just "ok" in my opinion. It's very small with private parking lot. The first floor has imagination play toys (e.g. Fire truck, kitchen) and the second floor has a bit more of a science theme with some experiments (nothing complex) with small scales of older technology (e.g. morse code, mechanical drill). If admission was a little cheaper I'd add a better rating for overall value but for the price I didn't think it was worth it (IMO) but they do need funds to maintain it. You can be done with the entire visit in about 2.5hrs and that's spending a lot of time at the limited number of exhibits. For adults this place will be absolutely boring and I recommend it for kids under age 10 because my teenage son didn't like it at all but my young daughter loved it. I don't live close to this place so based on the overall experience it's not worth a return trip for me. Anyone that lives relatively close to this place can take advantage of the 'free' family nights they offer where admission is waved for about 3hours in the evening.

Great place for toddlers! Our little guy had a blast 18 months. I was not expecting so many activities he can participate in. All parents there that day were watching after their kids. We will be back! Thank you

We had the most wonderful time here. My daughter's 1st birthday party (Halloween Costume) last Sunday. Josephine and her staff decorated, ordered the food and took care of the cake. There was nothing for me to do!!! I was able to enjoy the day! I definitely recommend this place for parties or the day! The kids loved it!!

Awesome location in an old warehouse building on the Hudson River water front. The day we were there also happened to be the Kids Expo which was some sort of day fair for kids. We just visited the museum and skipped the expo. There are two floors of interactive activities for young kids. Most are geared toward really young kids, I would say age 8 or less. Our nearly 3yo daughter loved it. The fire truck, grocery store, construction area, farm and computers were all big favorites. She definitely got a great learning experience from the afternoon we spent here. As the other reviewer mentioned they do quite a lot with very little resources. It seems like some of the larger businesses in the area could give a little more to make this place a little more that what it is. The little kids will love this place for a couple of hours. Oh, we also got in free because today was National Museum day!! I think admission is normally $6 or $7. They have parking on-site but it was closed for the Expo today so we parked in the Metro North garage just up the road.

My son loves this museum! What a great location, right in the water front and two floors of great interactive fun!! We go as often as we can, maybe we'll see you there one day!!

Parking Lot

Decided to pop in while visiting the Walkway over the Hudson. This museum is at the base of the Walkway. The parking lot seemed to have more than enough spaces, but we ended up parking in one of the park parking lots a few blocks down, so I don't know if the actual Museum Parking lot charges or not. Lots of activities to keep the kids entertained. It was not crowded, but then again we went later on in the day. Not as modern or updated as other museums I have visited but then again at $8 you really can't complain. The space inside is a bit old and an update would definitely earn this place another star, even if the admission was raised to $10, it'd be well worth it. The little interaction I had with the staff was very pleasant.

Hyde Park Mastodon.

Fun for my 4.5 year old kid, especially downstairs. Love that it is free every third Saturday after 5pm. My fave part was the Hyde Park mastodon (I remember when they found it)!

We have 7 & 9 y/o boys. Both of them had joyful times when we visited the museum in the end of August. They had fun, while crossing paths with some science too. The look and feeling of the space has been dramatically transformed from what the museum was a year ago. It is a bright, happy place to spend time and there are just the right amount of exhibits that engaged the boys (for a typically 9 and 7 y/o boy amount of time). In brief, this museum gave the kids time and space to be kids and to explore, touch, experience. This is not a big museum but there's enough to spend a couple of hours looking and then a few more hours hanging out, playing, and sitting around downstairs in a big, sunny, huge windowed room with WIFI !! I saw the virtue of the small size when I realized that I felt safe letting my kids wander and explore. That's when learning happens for littler kids and fun happens for bigger ones. Moreover, there's a convenient, free parking lot, a skateboard park right behind the building, a creek (connected to the Hudson River) right next to the parking lot that's awesome for exploring by kids who have a bit of outdoor explorer in them. There's also a public pavilion right behind the museum, and the Hudson River is right behind that! It's got all the makings of a cool day of adventuring for kids who have a bit of explorer in them. If you live within a half hour then this Museum/exploratorium is worth the trip and probably worth joining because you'll come back. But if you're farther away then you'll probably find that it's not a "destination" by itself. But the AREA IS a destination. First, there's the museum, and almost in it's backyard is the famous Walkway over the Hudson (5 minutes drive), We didn't go on our trip, but the Walkway/State Park is a 15 minute walk -- you can almost touch it; 10 minutes drive is The Vassar College/Loeb Museum, a smallish but superior collection (Johan Laurentz Jensen, Andy Warhol, Doris Lee, Alexander Calder, Luke Anowtalik and Georgia O'Keefe) and it's free; the FDR estate and Vanderbilt Mansion are a 15 minute drive. Plus there's a lot of inexpensive, great ethnic food in Poughkeepsie -- too many to mention. Search Yelp to suit your taste. "Museum" is probably a misnomer. This place seems to be at the beginning of a journey towards being an "exploratorium". It is more of a very-enhanced play space with splashes of science and learning. i hope they continue the journey. Our family is going to support them. We're looking forward to spending some snow days, half-days off from school and a few weekend days. This is a friendly, safe space where kids can spend time and also so some exploring. There's a lot of hanging out space and a great room downstairs where kids can build with giant blocks while parents sit in comfortable chairs, looking out huge windows at the Hudson River. And there's WIFI!! (I hope parents use that wisely and not too much.) I can imagine myself doing some computing work. The astonishing transformations of the last year have given me faith in the new Executive Director/Board and confidence in the future. I'm mindful that museums become great institution through the faith and support of members and donors. I think there's a lot about this museum that is like a brand new institution. I'm gonna try to be part of their growth. Altruism and philanthropy are not the only reasons to go, though. I think controlling the robot fishing arm is fun, playing with the sounds and microphone in the radio station is cool and the most fun are the very big, soft and strong blue building blocks that my two sons build two story structures out of. They're able to stand on the second story! Future architects? This is a cool place for the kids to visit. It's so full of promise that I think it'll be fun for my wife and I to watch the evolution. Maybe my kids will feel a sort of connection and ownership as they watch the museum evolve and grow. We're gonna work on it. If this review sounds overly enthusiastic, it's because I was so angry and disappointed after our first visit 2 years ago. This is a turnaround story -- a Cinderella story if you like. I'm rooting for them. We're going to become members, which is cheap is you're going to visit regularly as a play/hang out space. We're also gonna have our 7 y/os birthday party there, which is also cheap if you're a member. NOTE: I was not paid to write this review and I'm not on the staff of the museum. I just saw a miraculous transformation and I'm a believer. (such a transformation that I removed a very critical review I had written on tripadvisor, by the way) ANOTHER NOTE: After the museum, go to Mole Mole for incredibly authentic and inexpensive Mexican food. (Make sure to try the Chicken and Lime Soup) Mole Mole is close by, near Vassar College. (I don't work for them either :)

The staff and volunteers are very consistent and caring with the kids and most importantly make sure that everyone is safe. We spent many years visiting - since my 5th grader was still toddling! One piece of advice - Everwonder has lots of rooms, animals, and engaging activities. It's only fun for everyone if the parents / guardians are supervising the kids well and not letting them run off. She screamed at one of the parents in a nasty and unprofessional way and aggressively yelled at children when their parents weren't nearby, to the point that two of them were in tears, and one was sobbing so hard her mother had to console her and remove her from the building. As mentioned in my original review, accountability is not their strong suit. I'm happy with my decision not to return and will be sure to spread that message. During a time when everything is so expensive, I'd much rather spend my money elsewhere. We have visited many museums across Connecticut and have never been treated this way. The only reason we kept returning was because Ms. Robyn is an excellent educator. Other than that, the staff is horrible, and the place is falling apart. Everything is old and beat up. We are a homeschooling family that has participated in the museum's monthly classes for both Littles and Bigs, organized by our homeschool group for over a year. Unfortunately, we have consistently had negative experiences because of one staff member, Nicky Georgiano. Each time we visit, she approaches our children with a harsh and overly aggressive demeanor. While we always address any issues immediately, her behavior on November 5, 2025, was far beyond what is acceptable. As soon as we arrived, she started raising her voice at the children over small issues. When they built a fort using the museum's foam building blocks, she began shouting that someone could get hurt. We promptly had the children take the structure apart. However, just minutes later, she stormed down the hallway, pointing and reprimanding the children for running. Her tone and body language were excessively hostile and intimidating. Later, we received an email stating that Nicky had approached the children calmly, but that could not be further from the truth. In reality, she was the complete opposite of calm. She kept following our group throughout the museum, and what upset one of the children to the point of crying uncontrollably was when she yelled at them in a very aggressive manner. What made the situation worse was the director's handling of it. When I expressed my concerns, the director dismissed them, defended Nicky's actions, and insisted that "rules are rules" and "it's a liability." While I understand that safety is important, it does not excuse the poor treatment of visitors, especially children. Accountability and professionalism should be the standard, yet neither was demonstrated. It is also unsettling that staff members sit together in the office watching children on security cameras. This behavior is incredibly inappropriate and frankly very creepy. It is unfortunate because Ms. Robyn, one of the educators, is wonderful, and our children have always enjoyed her classes. However, the behavior of Nicky, along with the lack of leadership from the director, has completely ruined this experience for us. My family and I have decided not to return and will be taking our business elsewhere. Management, please review the many complaints regarding Nicky's behavior. She consistently creates a negative experience for families and is unsuitable for a children's environment.

She originally founded Kidcity as a homegrown non-profit organization in 1994 in attempt to make Middletown a more desirable place for families with young children. The circa 1835 historic Camp-Sterns House was donated by St. Sebastian's Church after the building retired from a 70-year career as their convent. The City of Middletown donated a portion of a public parking lot as a new site for the house. In March 1997, the old house moved 400 feet down Washington Street. Extensive renovations were done to the house and permanent hands-on exhibits were created by local artist Ted Esselstyn. The museum opened to the public the following year. The museum doubled in size in 2003 when a new addition was put on. My family and I have visited Kidcity a number of times since my wife and I began having children. We've been to a lot of children's museums over the years, but we think that Kidcity is easily the best one in Connecticut. Not only do our two sons have a lot of fun, but also my wife and me! Our most recent visit was this past August. There are so many different rooms and exhibits for children to engage in pretend play. Some of the rooms include The Ship, The Farm, Main Street, Video Theater, Space Age Roadtrip, and The Cornfield. There's even the Toddler Sea Caves on the basement level that our younger son enjoyed exploring. We usually end up staying for at least two hours, but I'm sure that our two boys could be engaged there for much longer. He didn't care for the bubbles area, but absolutely loved the sand corner that they have. There is a little sandbox for the kids so that way toddlers can go and play it if they wanted to. He loved going up and down the stairs and playing in the block area as well. When I first went, I didn't use what the library offered. Which if you put in that you have a library card, you and a child can get in for free for the day. My husband did come with us when I made the day through the library, but considering he got the library card and showed them that he had it, he was able to pay half the price. Which was nine dollars for us. Otherwise it would have been $18. It was a great time for my son and we were there for almost 2 hours as he was running around the place. If you do want to go more often, I know they offer a family packages. I also know that you can get a two-year package and a one-year package. The basic one-year package is $200. Which if that is the only thing you can afford is totally worth it. Especially on days where it is too cold to stay outside or it is raining. I know the other packages offer more stuff, but they are a little bit more expensive. This place is great considering that they do have events each week. That is great for all different ages. This is a place. I will definitely be taking my son more and once I have more kids will be taking them there as well.
