very decent experience for the price slept comfortably. Very close to Downtown walking distance to a lot of businesses and things to do.

The Good - The walls are hung with interesting looking artworks - The third floor itself, where our room was, smelled OK, was relatively clean, and had a nice funky art-house vibe. It was also quiet, with just two other guests who were friendly and not overly frightening. - The bathroom was relatively clean, and the water was nice and hot in the shower. - We did not see any cockroaches or other vermin! The Bad - The hallways were filthy, smelled like cat urine, and had either poor or no lighting. - The television in our room did not even have an electrical cord to plug it in! - The only lamp in the room was both broken and had no lightbulb. The Worst - The worst thing of all, as we arrived at this hostel, is that there was no obvious way to get inside. The first floor was dark and shuttered, so we ended up phoning the person whose number we had received. They demanded a $100 deposit thorugh Venmo, and that we download a curious door-locking app, both of which we did, and we were able to get in. One week later, and we still have not received our Venmo "deposit". - The next worst thing of all, the next morning, we could not open the door from the third floor onto the stairwell, because it was blocked by a human body! We thought this person was dead at first, but we could hear steady breathing. We didn't know what to do, so we decided to retreat to our room and have some breakfast and use the bathrooms etc. Fortunately, when we tried again an hour later, the body had woken up and disappeared. The Ugly - A mouse kept one of us awake at night. In the morning, a paper bag with food had a perfect little hole chewed out, and the blueberry muffin next to the hole had little mouse-sized bites taken out. read more

Avoid Michie Hostel at all costs. Service is non existent because they don't have on site staff. Online support wasn't much better. After submitting my concerns they indicated they would address it in the morning and never did. Even getting on the front door required a half hour and downloading a new app. Bathrooms were dirty with no toilet paper, which is a health code violation. The window doesn't close and leaves a 16 inch gap for rain, noise, heat and cold to come thru. Another health code violation. read more

Inexpensive hostel stay for two nights ~$145. It's about 5min waking distance to some of the buildings of Brown university. It's next to Ben and Jerry's ice cream store on the upper level. The entrance is somewhat obscured with no posted sign and easily missed, you really had to follow the email instructions which would be sent on day of arrival if not hours; otherwise, you won't be able to find it or get in. And I had seen it happened. I called its customer service no. (401) 863-2378 ) for check in instructions because I could not open the file that was sent on the Expedia website. I provided my personal information and uploaded a copy of my ID. Since Expedia had screwed up once before with my reservation not being found on arrival so I now call to confirm all my Expedia reservations. Don't get me wrong, I love Expedia and it's my favorite and prime sites for travel reservations. It's centrally located on a busy Main Street with lots of dinning options. It's about ~20min Uber drive from the Rhode Island airport. For the price you pay, the quality of the place is acceptable with the bare minimum: clean bedrooms, shared restrooms, and kitchen; except that you need showering shampoos and bath soup. One bath towel is provided. There is even a sitting area with skylights. We visited at the end of August with superb weather so it would be interesting to see whether the AC unit functionality during hot or cold months. If you are sensitive to loud street noise, do not stay here as some of street facing rooms have poor sound proof and the hole on the window barrier did not help with the situation: loud crowds, car honking, and blasting music last well past midnight on the weekends. read more

The hostel is ugly... 0 star. Not a nice area. Everything Looked very old and dirty. One trash can beside the kitchen and one trash can in the restroom with no liner. No trash can in bathroom. There's no trash can in the room I stayed. I can't believe they don't provide toilet paper, even there's toilet paper in public restrooms. Only one trash can in the sharing restroom and they don't use trash bags. So the pads probably sitting in a metal box for long time. And the toilets couldn't flash properly. That's also a problem. Seemlingly, the hostel hasn't been cleaned for several months. Couldn't take a shower since the bathroom is so dirty and unsafe. I don't know if the restroom door can be locked. After I complained the manager gave me half refund which was very considerate. I would not recommend anyone stay here. read more

This place is the most disgusting dump I've ever paid for--was going to sleep at the airport tonight and really wish I had read some of the reviews and done that. Hard to believe scam artists can get away with this -- evidently repeatedly--since negative reviews are apparently deleted. 41 Central St, 02907. No reception on premises, filthy stairwell reeking of (cat?) urine, missing light bulbs everywhere so we were climbing stairs in the dark. Key entrance codes only worked after we had to Venmo $100 deposit which has not been returned 8 days later. Furnishings broken, lamp broken, walls thin, TV not functional, bed sheets maybe (?) cleaned? We found in the morning a mouse or rat had chewed through a paper bag during the night, there were rat traps visible in the common areas. We had no choice but to stay because it was Brown graduation on that weekend and every decent hotel was priced $800, $900, and up. Thankfully we didn't need AC yet, because there was none. Very run down neighborhood. Not cheap either ($165 for 1 night, plus the un-returned $100 deposit.) Photos they use to advertise must be photo-shopped or from some long-by-gone era. There is no bar, no service, no person to speak with. Definitely not like European youth hostels, as they are suggesting. read more

HUGE Red Flags....SCAM - Avoid Booking at Michie Hostel - My original Google review was removed within 24 hours -- this appears to be an effort to hide negative feedback. - Hostel is directly above a nightclub -- music and vibrations continue until 2am, making it impossible to sleep. - Unresponsive and unprofessional management -- slow to reply when I requested a refund, then stopped responding entirely. - Possible bedbug issue -- we found black droppings and a small dark-colored bug on our last day. Staff dismissed our concerns. - Rooms were not cleaned before our arrival -- trash bins were full and remained unemptied during our 3-day stay. - One bathroom had no toilet paper -- we had to purchase our own. - Entire property smells strongly of cat urine. - International hostels are understood to be affordable places to sleep while maintaining the basic level of cleanliness and professionalism. I think American hostels do not respect this. Michie is a scam and a representation of that. *** I'm going to screenshot that this is posted for the 2nd time today and post it as proof that they are somehow deleting negative reviews if it happens again. *** Don't book here. Over priced dirty and my electric went off over 10 times and I was the one that had to go down to the basement and turn it back on myself each time I do not recommend at all. They make you put a $100 deposit down and when I left they didn't send it back I left that room spotless with everything in it that was originally there. Also had mice and roaches crawling on the wall. Their customer service was horrible they are very rude!! horrible experience and I will NEVER rent a room from this location again if I could give it -000 stars I would!!! read more

These people illegally rented out a unit in my condo building. They are not owners. They lease all of these properties and then rent them out without reading condo association documents. Luckily the association promptly removed them after safety concerns were brought to management. These people are shady snakes. Avoid them. They don't even own the properties they are renting and it is probably illegal. read more

1) The location of Michie Hostel is horrible. We arrived in the afternoon, day time, even the lyft driver didn't feel comfortable to drop us off. He told us the neighborhood might not safe for walking around, although inside the hostel might be OK. Actually, we don't really need to be told, we can see by our own eyes it's not a safe neighborhood. Plus, we didn't see any restaurant or other business nearby, which meant that if we need anything, we might have to take a risk to walk pretty far to get it. 2)The instructions on HOW to USE the ProdataKey wasn't clear at all! It was pretty clear step-by-step instructions on how to install the app of ProdataKey on your phone, how Activate the "key", and you'll easily got "access granted" shown on your phone and be told that you could now use your phone "to open the doors" of the hostel. However, when arriving the property, how to actually USE your phone to open a door was another story! We just could not even get into the entrance door! There was no further instructions on how to use your phone on that "door opener" which had no keypad nor scanner or camera to interact with the phone or even enter any code. There was just no way to figure out how to use it. We eventually gave up and ended up to find another hotel to stay. That is to say, we never made it into the hostel that we had paid for our stay! 100% sure that all the 5 star reviews are paid for or fake. Horrible customer service, they treat you like crap. Was screamed at by one of the receptionists (he was male) "get your shit out of the room" despite having paid because they wanted to suddenly increase the price of the room and move me to a shittier one. I decided to leave because I'm not paying to stay at a dirty place and be treated like that either. I had a very important package shipped to me and according to my 2 roommates the package had been on the table after arriving Monday, after leaving because I'm not staying at a place that will belittle me while I pay them, the same worker said it was a lost package and refused to check the cameras and stated that it was lost and there was nothing they can do about it. Pretty sure that rude and hostile employee threw it out. There's a lot better SECURE and CLEAN places to stay out with people who will treat you decently and won't ask you to move your stuff from one room to the other. Waste of money and space. You push away the only people who would stay at this garbage. Garbage place, garbage employees. Was not even offered an apology either. Trash. Don't stay here. And put that employee on a leash or something until he learns how to properly talk to people. read more
