What a nasty surprise!…read more Last year, to be more precise on 21 December, I took two Michael Kors watches to have the batteries replaced for the very first time at Coburg Jewellers. I was serviced by a young blonde lady in her twenties who asked me to come back within 30 to 45 minutes. When I came back, she quickly placed one of the watches in the velvet bag I keep them individually. Then, I was informed that they were not able to unscrew the other one as they were too scared of leaving a scratch which sounded weird. When I got home, I noticed a scratch on the back of my Michael Kors watch which they managed to replace the battery! It was end of the year and we were off on holidays on the following day... Today I took the other watch they hadn't replaced the battery to a watchmaker who told me that Coburg Jewellers in fact had damaged not only one, but the FOUR screws on the back of my watch! I just had my engagment ring repaired here after the band became misshapened…read more I happened to be walking past the shop one day before the day that I was told to collect it and thought that I would pop in to see if it was ready to save myself another trip. The owner was extremely rude. After telling her that I had just popped in to see if it was ready she stared at me blankly and said "yeah do you have a ticket?" Extremely passive agressive I showed her the ticket and she started lecturing me about the date pickup date that was on the slip. I asked her why she was speaking to me so rudely and she tried to backpedal by blaming herself, but it was obvious that she thinks she is a very important person and was looking down on me. There are so many other jewelers around, I would never go back here to deal with her passive agressive behavior. The lady needs to take some sort of customer service course.

I'm starting to find some chain stores to be the jeweller's equivalent of an Aldi supermarket, over chocked with large quantities of the same generic pieces; so coming to Hoskings was a return to the grand old days of entering a dazzling jeweller's store where each piece is unique and looks a million dollars. The sales assistants appear to be equally as impressed and excited by the exquisite pieces available and were only too eager to show me things and even help me try them on, all with me being quite honest in saying I wasn't really sure what, or if I wanted anything. After what seemed like almost an hour of fun admiring diamonds and gold with girlfriends (I.e. the sales assistants); I lived in the moment and decided to spoil myself with a stunning two tone European clasp link bracelet. What with two kids, a mortgage and car loan my husband and I weren't exactly in the position to go out and grab a brand new fisher and paykel. So we traipsed around Glenroy, the discount and op shops, all of whom either didn't stock fridges, or stocked second hand bangers for about the same price as a brand new fisher and paykel. Cash Traders was the last place and I wasn't even going to bother, but I'm glad I did. We scored a double door fridge with heaps of room and flashy compartments. Sure, it was second hand but it wasn't in bad nick and it was bigger and better than the one we had. And we got it for a steal at only $250! With a twelve month warranty!! How good is that! So don't write them off if you're in need of a bargain, they might just have what you're looking for at the price you need.
