They seem to use top notch products and do their best to make the experience enjoyable. They even have several drink options if you want coffee, soda or wine. At first, I thought Michaels was going to be my go-to salon. But after I've had problems with my nails three separate times...I'm going to have to find somewhere else to go. My first time I got Gel-X. I was told they last at least 2 weeks. Mine all fell off within 3 days after getting them. The second time I got a dip set and they were all slanted upwards which I didn't realize until after I left. Today I got a gel manicure and within an hour after leaving, the polish is peeling off. $213 for a color and cut. Cut is ok, i wanted a shag but its not real shaggy. I wanted to go silver, but Aliya explained there were steps to get to silver, they had to lighten my hair first. I told Aliya that i wanted blonde for today and id return later to complete the steps. Kinda shocked when she revealed the color... wheres the BLONDE?? I went home to see the color under bright lights. My granddaughters were waiting and when i walked in they asked why i decided to not get color done. It a pretty brown, but not blonde. I've been going to Michaels for many years. Their best stylists stay very busy, so for a short time I thought I would try another, newer salon nearer to me. I was shocked that the newer place has prices at least 30% higher than Michaels and while I did have one stylist I really liked, she quit and others I worked with were not up to her standard. I decided to return to Michaels and I couldn't be happier. Over the years I have worked with Lisa and Laura, both are excellent and deliver high quality results. I get a cut every eight weeks, color every four, highlights every eight. The last time Lisa did my hair she added some kind of shine treatment and did magic with a curling iron and I got a million compliments. I do have to budget for this, but quality costs and good stylists are worth booking 2 weeks ahead. read more

I came to this salon as I am visiting out of town. I showed Raven who is one of the stylists that I was set up with. I showed her a picture of what I wanted which is a brown balayage. She was very nice and seemed she knew what she was doing. 3 hrs later, My hair came out nothing like the picture. I spoke to the manager, she said, we don't really care about what you got, you will have to pay $316. I explained to her that I just got engaged yesterday and wanted something nice. They cared nothing about the situation. I paid the money and left. I selected this business as I thought it was a family business and will do a good job. My daughter went in there to get her haircut had a picture and everything and the technician instead of asking her questions just kept cutting her hair, shorter and shorter and my daughter finally told her to stop. Love this salon! I have VERY unique fine textured, bright blonde hair. I have been going here years just for trims and they always are wonderful, affordable, clean and great! Recently, I decided to splurge and get my hair professionally highlighted for the first time ever - I was so nervous since I've heard horror stories about blonde coloring...but WOW! I wish I would have taken before pictures as well, but these are the after!!! SO beautiful and natural looking! My hair also was still very soft and hydrated after, it didn't dry out at all. If you're in need of a bright blonde color touch up - RUN do not walk- to see "Devlan" @ Michaels! I will definitely be paying more visits to her in the future to maintain this gorgeous color. Do not recommend. WAY over priced for their careless stylists! They're far too "scissor happy" Lobbed off about 8 inches off my hair that is now to my shoulders and was not asked for. I asked the staff to check on the wait, and they told me it would likely be another 10 minutes as she was still styling another client. I know that when I go in with an idea for my hair, my hair stylist will use her expertise to help me get as close to that idea as possible. I would not recommend Michael's Salon for any type of a perm hairstyle. I would recommend Square One in Centerville, or you can try a new salon, which is at the opposite end of Michael's salon in Centerville. If you're facing Michael's you'll want to go to the left and go almost to the end of the strip mall, just a a few doors down from Dot's market. Mainstreet Salon. My problem with Michael's... I went in for a spiral perm, I made it very clear before the appointment, and through my entire consultation with the hairdresser that I did not want to use, the long barrel rods that are typically used for spirals. I wanted white rods on the top of my hair, and purple rods, (Candlewyck style) every place else. After a long argument, and being assured that they have changed the way they do these things, I agreed to use the barrel rods. That part I will own, but then she started pushing me in to having my hair colored, because I had old hair color on my hair that was store-bought. I explained many times to her that I've been getting perms every two years for 30 years and the old hair color has never caused a problem. They put the regular perming solution on and the new hair growth curls up just as well as all of the hair that has the old color on it. She argued with me and told me that she would not do my perm if I didn't agree to let her do the hair color right then and there. She Assured me that doing a hair color and then immediately after doing the hair color, perming, my hair... would not burn up my hair and would not lift that haircolor out. And in fact, it did burn my hair up and it did pull that color out. And for the next six months, I'm gonna be stuck with dried, frizzy, ratted up hair. And, with a curl that is super tight and not what I wanted. When I went to Michael's to try and get this fixed, they refused to give me back any of the extra money that she overcharged. She quoted me a price of an extra $50 for the hair color and then charged me $147 for it. My quoted price for that day was $152 and she charged me $299. And then took up six hours of my time because she kept taking other customers in between of working on my hair. I should've just walked away when she told me to do it her way, or go home. But, I trusted her. I've never given a bad review of any place before, but it really upsets me, that it took me a long time to save up the money to be able to get this kind of perm,. And now, it's all frayed, and fried and it's breaking off whenever I pick through it. Because she over processed it and burned it up. Now I'm going to be spending more money on products to try and get my hair back to a healthy place. read more

Michael's is back running smoothly now. When you have an appt, they'll send instructions by text. When you arrive you reply text and wait until instructed to come in. Someone screens you at the door and then you proceed to check in. You and the staff wear masks the whole time. I haven't been on spa side, but hair wash and cutting stations are distanced. I was in Dayton for a wedding and desperately needed my haircut. I live in NYC and like everything else, salons are crazy expensive (I.e. - a deal for a simple haircut is $75 and highlights can add another $200-$300! Woof!) Anyway, I had some time to kill before the ceremony and celebrations, so I booked an appointment with Liz. The salon is large but clean. She gave me a great cut and styled it perfectly for the upcoming events that night. She was personable, talkative, and listened to what I wanted. All new clients at Michael's get 20% any products they purchase too during their first visit. I would recommend to anyone in the Dayton area searching for a new hair stylist to call and book Liz. She mentioned she also does color too. The cut was $35 (w/o tip) and included shampoo, cut, and style. Extremely happy with my experience and if I'm ever in DYT again I'll be heading over for a trim! read more

This place has gone downhill. I scheduled two appointments in the last five weeks. The first was a haircut with a senior stylist. After waiting for nearly 20 minutes, an apprentice washed my hair and brushed it out. The senior level stylist came over and spent literally less than two minutes cutting my hair. She didn't even Measure the sides to see if they were even. I understand that she's been doing this for a while, but I was not impressed with the haircut. The apprentice blew out my hair, using her hands to tousle it rather than a brush. I told her there was no need to blow it all the way dry, but I was still charged the full amount, even though I had seen the senior level stylist for maybe two minutes. I thought I would give it another try and I booked a highlight appointment with a different stylist. After waiting for a 30 minutes, I walked to the receptionist desk and asked how much longer the stylist was going to be. She walked back to the stylist and said that the stylist was finishing up, i.e. Somewhere between five and 15 minutes. At that point it, the designer was 35 minutes late so I was looking at a good 40 to 45 minutes after my appointment if not more. The fact that the stylist could not walk over to me and tell me she was running behind or have someone at the reception relay the message, is very unprofessional. It also would've been nice how they offered me some water or a beverage. Absolutely no communication and a lack of common courtesy. When I informed the receptionist that I just wanted to cancel the appointment, she told me that I might be charged 50% due to their cancellation policy. I asked her to find out definitively whether or not they were going to charge me. She spoke with a manager, and I was told I would not be charged. In her defense, the receptionist was apologetic and kind. But that's absurd. If someone is running more than 10 or 15 minutes late, they need to inform the client. It seems like they try to squeeze in too many clients these days and so many people are waiting for their appointment to start or they are waiting for their scheduled stylist to give them attention While they finish up with someone else because they're overbooking. It was a complete waste of time and I will not be back. I don't recommend this salon. There are much better ones in the Dayton area. read more

Michael's wasn't the first place I called to get highlights and a cut from. The first place I called let an answering machine get the call and then said they were booking out a week or more. So then I decided to call Michael's and they made an appointment the next day for me. I was impressed with how friendly everyone was and the stylist Beth did an amazing job on my hair. The color of the highlights is exactly what I asked for. She listened to what I wanted and I felt she took her time making it happen. Went to get an angled bob and blond bayalage. Aliyah told me that bayalage was 128 with her which was fine as the website when I booked said 157 for first time client bayalage and haircut. she started to walk away to make the color and I stopped her and said would you like to see what I want for color? and the. I showed her a picture of what I wanted. Hair is now darker than before. As she was finishing she said I'm not going to dry it completely so it's not frizzy and I'm sorry I couldn't get you lighter but come back again and we can get you lighter next time. Yeah not even close to what I was quoted when we started. i questioned it at the register and all they could say is that she must have used extra product. I actually questioned it twice. the second time was when I walked back in after the first time Uhhh nothing we talked about at all! and I didn't even leave with the haircut I asked for and my color looks nothing like the picture I showed her when I walked in. have never spent so much money to walk out so unhappy and looking for the lighter hair when I left. I've gone to Michaels for several months. I got wonderful highlights/lowlights and was really pleased; however I have yet to get a decent hair cut. The first stylist cut the top of my hair too short and the next stylist I tried cut one side shorter and the following time made a very straight cut where it should have been angled and the mistake is very obvious! I've been having Ashley cut my hair and she's doing great ! BUT I won't be going back to Michaels again. When you see Ashley please tell her it has nothing at all to do with her. So im sure you're aware of Michaels having clients pull into the parking spots and wait to be invited in. Then they take your temperature and ask covid questions before you're allowed to advance into the building wearing a mask. Today I went in and their was a man sitting in the waiting area without a mask. I went to the front and told them. Ashley had another girl come out to wash my hair and I told her about him too because I never saw anyone say anything to him. She said she would mention it to management. After Ashley was done with my hair the man was still sitting in the chair where everyone had to walk past him, no mask. So at the register I said again that he had no mask on. He followed me and stood behind me, he must be 6'6" a huge man.The girl said well he put it on now. I turned around and he was walking back to sit down again. When I left I decided to call and ask for management and got Savannah. She said she was aware of him and hes wearing a mask now but for the hour I was there he was not. I thought about her basically telling me there wasn't a problem and so I called again asking for Savannah. I said since Michaels didn't feel the need to keep me safe I wouldn't be back again and cancelled the appointment for next month. So finally the end of the story is I'm 70 years old with copd, asthma and heart failure. If people can't be safe i can't go there anymore. Why go to all the trouble of having someone man the door and take temperatures if you're going to allow a man to be there with no mask. Her reason was that they don't require that people wear a mask the whole time they're there, only if they get up and walk around...what??? Hes spreading his germs throughout the place as people walk past him... I'll need to find another salon. read more

Scheduled a Deva cut. This was my second time with this stylist. The first time it didn't appear that she knew how to cut the top, but I tried again. This time confirmed that she didn't know what to do as she got out a comb and cut the top like a regular hair cut. But charged me for a Deva cut. I was in the chair no longer than 15 minutes. If you are going to advertise that your stylists can perform Deva cuts then please train them as such. read more

I got a terrible haircut earthier this year and had to return to have it "fixed" by another stylist. It was so bad that there wasn't much she could even do with it and I left disappointed again. I took my daughter in for an appointment to have her hair colored and was told we'd need to come back another day because it would take six hours and she didn't have time. She had mad a bridal appointment weeks earlier. I understand things happen but this wasn't a regular cut and style it was a bridal appointment and accommodations should have been made. They offered her a throw away 30 min appointment much later in day...but it didn't work because...ya know..SHE WAS GETTING MARRIED!! The only bright spot to this story is that we were able to call Salon Loft, they recognized the urgency of the situation and got her in. She didn't feel rushed or thrown away and looked beautiful!! I can't recommend this place enough, and I've only ever gotten my hair styled (which is only one of many services they offer). The check-in process is simple and easy, and it's also easy to check the schedule of the stylist you prefer. I love that I can walk in, grab a cup of coffee, relax with free wifi while I wait for my appointment, and then relax in a comfortable environment with friendly stylists! Michael's is a very large salon that offers a full service menu for nails, colors, cuts, messages, etc. There are quite a lot of stylists. They offer you free drinks while you get your hair done. I go see Sarah and she is just awesome. She also gives me a great cut and then styles my hair in a way I love. She offers great conversation and is just really nice.
