Gettin' my craft on at this new store. Jo-Ann recently opened in Lawrence. They opened in the space…read morewhere Hancock Fabric had been located for decades. Not sure what happened to Hancock but I hope Jo-Ann intends to stick around for awhile. I have been to the Lawrence store twice. Both times I've been looking for specific items. The first time they didn't have or stock the items I needed but I still had an enjoyable shopping experience. During my second visit, they had the item I wanted and then some. This store is, oddly, arranged much like Hancock Fabric was arranged. The fabric notions are on the left side of the store and in the back of the store. There are rows of craft items displayed very similarly to the former Hancock displays. So it was very easy to navigate the store and find what I needed. Everything is nicely arranged and there were many shelves of sale items which I always appreciate! The lighting on some of the shelving is bright and cheery. I was in the bead section and the items were really illuminated. The clerks were very friendly and personable. I had a coupon on my cell phone but I had left my phone at home. The cashier gave me the discount anyway. I appreciated her help. The clerk on other visit was equally as friendly and helpful. She gave me coupons to use, as well. We talked about her sewing projects and she was very pleasant. Great store, friendly service, reasonable prices. I know I'll be back! I am glad to see them in Lawrence.

I am a quirky creative crafty type of female and I usually like to make my own things and what's…read morereally funny about it is that I don't buy the usual things. I usually piece things together to create something new so Joann's has become the place that I go for my creative crafty items. First off I don't like the location of this place because if you don't live in the area you'll never see it from the main road, however I can easily overcome that because when you walk inside the store is clean. the shelves are always fully stocked and what I love most about them is that they always have a sale on some thing. I have never gone in there and paid full price for anything. I catch a sale every time I shop there. The biggest complaint that I do have with them, is the staff is never at the front of the store to greet customers. If a thief wanted to steal something they could easily do it and go right outside the door as easily as they came in because there's no one there to watch. Now maybe because the store has security cameras the staff have convinced themselves that it doesn't matter if their presence be at the front of the store, But for customers it raises concern to see that you have to actually be standing at the registers ready to check out before someone comes to the front of the store. That is a very scary way to run your business. Other than that concern, I love shopping there. I love being able to find unique and creative patterns and fabrics and items that I can put together to create something entirely my own.

I wish I could give it a zero star, but it's not available…read more My son and I went in today, excited to see the place, since there aren't many around anymore. I owned 3 card shops in the late 80's, and my son has recently gotten into collecting, so it was our first trip together, which explains why we were excited. First thing we see in the door is boxes. Opened boxes which looked like trash. As we walked in, junk to the left and random case things on the right. The rest of the shop was nothing but a mess, with random stuff throughout; no rhyme or reason for anything. I brought in $2k cash, my son $400. He had a new set in mind, which he saw on the shelf, and was waiting to purchase, and I was looking for old cards; Kaline, Mays, Clemente, etc. A younger kid offered to help, but quickly vanished. I looked through the glass cases for 35 minutes with no luck, because there wasn't much displayed, and it was hard to see with all the junk on the counter. Nothing is in any order, whether it be the cased individual cards, the unopened boxes, or the memorabilia. And believe it or not, after 35 minutes, not one person asked if there was anything they could show us. The owner, who was present, but paying all his attention to someone else, never even acknowledged our presence. Of course we walked out laughing about the fact that we never spent a dime, and I apologized to my son for the waste of time and suggested to him that we open up a card shop that had a little pride. I told him that this was not a typical card shop, and that the owner should be embarrassed. We got some lunch, then went back to the house to order our cards on line. Not one good thing about this place, unfortunately.
