A big piece of road travel is planning and keeping your car fueled. Guess who did a terrible job of that? I should have filled up in Taos, but I figured there would be a station somewhere near the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge. There wasn't. So here we are driving down dirt roads into the gorge and I'm looking at the gas gauge thinking "How much further can we go if I turn off the A/C?" Dumb rookie screw up but fortunately we made it to Mike's and topped off. Location, location, location! Well done, Mike.

After a week of fabulous New Mexican food we were ready for a burger! The food and service here…read morewere outstanding. I had their Ultimate Patty Melt and my wife ordered their specialty burger of the month that was served with blueberry chutney; both were excellent. For fun we ordered the fried pepper strips as one of our sides and they were unique and very tasty.

It's a very small but cute restaurant with a tv around the bar so if you want to watch football or…read moreany sporting event you can definitely see it here. The service was good but I feel like they can be more informative, especially to someone new in town. If you're not aware, the burgers do not come with fries. You must order them separately. One thing the server did not mention. All she asked was, fries or onion rings? Now, I do understand we could read the menu, which we did, but most hamburger joints come with a side of fries especially at these prices!!! You're paying between $13-18 a burger, it should come with a side of fries! Now what she also failed to tell us was the amount of French fries that come when you order them. It's a large basket that could be shared between 2-3 people. We ordered three fries plus 1 onion ring. We paid $16.50 for three fries and barely ate through one whole basket! The fries seemed fresh cut but seemed like they had this weird film on the outside. Not sure if it's their oil, or if they didn't fry it at a high enough temperature. What we ordered: - bison burger (medium) : it came out burnt to a crisp. The initial bite wasn't bad but eating it more felt like you had a mouth full of ash. While I can appreciate a good charbroiled or grilled hamburger, it was overly done. Not to mention it was over cooked. There was no seasoning on top of the burnt flavor. It wasn't really edible. - old timer w/cheese (medium): add an additional charge for cheese! This too came out burnt! My daughter could only eat a little as it was too charbroiled/grilled. It too was over cooked and no where near medium. - green chili burger (medium): I had high hopes of this burger as it came with cheese and their infamous New Mexico Green chili! While my patty was not burnt, it was over cooked and it had zero to no seasoning! It came with a green chili mayo which was really good but it still didn't help with the seasoning! The burgers here seem fresh and the beef seems a good quality, but I still believe it's overpriced for what you get! I also understand times are hard and our economy is struggling with prices, but then they need to find other ways to cut prices down without sacrificing quality.

The deluxe mcchicken was also dry too so I called and requested a refund for the two sandwiches. The manager that I spoke to was named Clinton he told me that I can either get a remake or a refund. I chose to do a refund and I asked him if he wanted me to save the sandwiches so I can bring them in tomorrow since I live far and he told me no its okay so I threw them away in the trash . He said all I needed was the receipt. I had my sister come in today with the receipt. And the general manager named Floria said no that she can only remake the sandwiches . I told her thats not what I discussed with the manager yesterday and she said they didnt have enough money in the register to give me a refund so come back tomorrow . What a joke! Bad customer service! Hopefully I do get my refund tomorrow.

We got our orders quickly. We used our "2 cheeseburgers for $1" coupon on the app separately in case it could not be used with value meal menu. Thus, 2 orders - not 1. Only thing missing in the bag was the dipping sauce for the McNuggets, but we hadn't left, so husband went back in & got it. In the bags we did get plenty of catsups, napkins, and a Baby Yoda toy was in 10 year old's Happy Meal. Contented is too small an adjective to use for her delight with the toy. This is fast food. It is as good as it gets when it's McDonald's. It's basically the same everywhere. It was not great, nor was it awful. It was a satisfactory expedition for lunch.

Finally we figured it had been put on the wrong side of the Main Street so we went the other way and ended up hungry and ready for a drink and dinner. The only negative is that I couldn't get a margarita other than the wine margaritas they have. Since there is a sweet and sour mix in them I went for a white wine instead and it was perfect for the day. We ordered our drinks and chips and guacamole to get started while we looked at the menu. Our server was super and we sat on the patio in the shade which was lovely. There was plenty of shade for the hot day. To stave off our hunger while we looked at the menu we ordered the chips and salsa with guacamole. The salsa was fabulous as was the rest but I had to comment on the salsa because so often these days it's just too tomato-y or bland. This was flavorful and had a bit of spice. For dinner, we ordered the steak tampiquena and I would get it again. Savory, perfectly cooked and hearty. Check this place out if you are visiting!

The real standout, though, was the flan. It was hands down the best I've ever had: incredibly smooth, rich, and just the right amount of sweetness.
