This Michaels is pretty good. Parking is super easy in the spacious lot of the shopping plaza. The store has a wide variety of crafting supplies, seasonal decor and picture frames. Always make sure to check the app for coupons that can reduce your total. And if you sign up for rewards with your phone number, they send additional coupons once you've spent to certain thresholds. The thing I like least about this Michaels is the checkout process. The entrance to the line is practically hidden, first off. Then, once you emerge from the maze of the line, you can choose self checkout or wait for a cashier. I usually self checkout and get the heck out of there. You are able to scan coupons at the self checkout so thats nice. Also, MIchaels tends to have pretty great Halloween decor, and they usually start putting it out in July. read more

Michael's is a massive arts & crafts specialty retailer which turns out to be an international chain of over 1100 stores. This particular Michael's can be found in the shopping center at the intersection of N. Dale Mabry Highway and Ehrlich Road. This is the same shopping center that houses Nutrition S'mart and the Carrollwood Ale House. I'm not an arts & crafts kinda guy, so I have no business commenting on their massive selection of scrapbooking materials, artificial flowers, art supplies, beading stuff, greeting cards, and a whole bunch of things that would be perfect for school teachers. I'll just acknowledge that the store is huge and that they seem to have every conceivable type of craft supplies right at your fingertips. Nope, what brought me into Michael's was their excellent picture framing department which had been recommended by a friend. I have a number of really nice underwater photographs which had been signed by the artist, and I wanted to be able to display them on my walls at home. I had absolutely no idea what kind of choices were available to me, but I knew that I didn't want to buy some off-the-shelf generic frame and try to fit these beautiful photos inside. I brought my artwork into the store, walked back to the counter, and waited until the lady was available to assist me. She looked over the 2 signed photos and the one signed lithograph, and started pulling out colored pieces of heavy cardboard. I learned that these are more-properly referred to as matting materials, and that the color choices are meant to compliment the colors in the photos or artwork. She eventually used two different colored mats for the lithograph (a light purple inner and a medium blue outer). The lady was a real pro because the colors in the lithograph really popped when she was done. After that we discussed the color and type of the frame itself and the type of glass that I wanted to use. Wow, I had no idea that there were so many decisions. Then she turned her attention to my two signed photos. Each of them were mounted on a black piece of matting, and the artist had signed the mat. Her recommendation was to "float" the photographs between two pieces of glass, and then surround the photos with a black wooden frame. By this point I was just smiling and nodding since I was obviously in the presence of an artistic pro. Fast forward to about two weeks later and I got a call from the store to say that my artwork was back and ready for me to stop in and see everything. Each piece was wrapped in heavy brown wrapping paper, and my same framing expert carefully unwrapped each piece to show off these amazing wall hangings. Holy crap! These things are gorgeous, and I was there from the beginning to watch her work her magic as she made her recommendations and helped me put everything together. (Photos are attached to show off these amazing wall hangings!) I drove back up there the very next day with three more pieces of artwork, and I should have those results back shortly. I honestly can't evaluate the rest of the store since I know nothing about the various departments and craft supplies, but if they are as good as my friend in the framing department you'll be in for a real treat. read more

Always love and enjoy going to Michaels and looking at the deals and craft supplies. I could literally spend hours in this store but I don't think my husband would like that very much lol. They always have great deals on crafts and is my go to place for anything craft related. I also like going here on Black Friday for all of their wonderful specials. They also offer the kids club activities ever so often for either free or cheap and my daughter has always enjoyed them. The staff is always friendly and when I was in my child's school PTA, they'd even give me a discount for items I'd purchase for the school. They also offer teacher discounts if you didn't know. All you have to do is show your teacher ID which I think is so wonderful that they do that. They've just started offering the buy online and pickup in store which I've taken part of 2x. Relatively speaking, this is one of the better Michaels in the Tampa Bay Area. I have been here a few times now, and this is what I learned. Card stock selection could be better. They have more to choose from, but my guess is that these hot items are always flying off the shelf. Michaels could do better by ordering more and keeping the shelves stocked better. Pretty good sales on scrapbook supplies (40% off Recollections Stickers). Also scrapbook supplies well stocked. This is the main reason we always come to Michaels. This is also the large reason for the 4 star rating. Michaels has better scrapbook supplies than JoAnne and other places with similar stock. One thing I thought was helpful on my last visit was that there was lots of Valentines's Day craft supplies. Guys, keep this in mind. A homemade Valentine's Day card will always get you extra brownie points! Why is this Michaels one of the best in the Tampa Bay Area. Because it is huge and has a very organized layout, which makes it easy to navigate. I have also been consistently impressed with the staff. They are very helpful. They always know exactly where something is. One time I asked for the customization coffee mugs and they took me right to them. On my last visit, they knew exactly where the heart stencils were. It is almost like they have GPS built into their brain! Their check out is convenient, but could be better (where they call the numbers for who is next). Nevertheless, it has improved from how it was a couple years ago. Even when crowded, they keep the line moving pretty fast. Overall, Michaels is great. I am rating the picture framing section since I have rarely bought other things there. I am not a crafter except for stained glass and they do not carry those supplies. Anyhow the framing department is truly wonderful. Over the years I have had them frame a number of pictures and they are beautiful. Their advice is expert and the results are spectacular. I could not be more pleased and highly recommend them. I had some old fragile drawings that needed to be reframed and their care for these was extraordinary as well!! read more

Let me just start off by saying that the atmosphere at Michaels is pretty lackluster. It's very drab when you walk in and it kinda feels unwelcoming. I ran in real quick to get some puzzle glue for a project I was working on and I didn't see a single employee on the floor, I had to walk aisle by aisle to find the glue myself because there was literally no one to ask. Mid-shop, I had to use the restroom and couldn't find it because of the tall aisles and I couldn't find single person in the store who could help me find it!! I was so frustrated but to my saving grace, I saw someone behind the doors in the back. I politely knocked on the door and a lady came out and I asked where the restroom was. Thankfully she told me, but my god did she seem unhappy doing it. She seemed so upset that I bothered her and it made me feel even more unwelcome. However, the only reason I'm giving it 3 starts is because of my checkout experience. The line was a bit long but went by quick and my cashier, Lorenzo, was super nice and helpful. He seemed enthusiastic about working and even asked how my day was going, which made me feel better about my whole experience there. I hope if I ever need anything from Michaels again that he is my cashier, otherwise the place isn't worth going to. read more

Okay, so this is not a new store but it was not on Yelp and it should be for its stellar Framing Department. I brought into the store some doozy of a Mexican mirror piece and Christian handled it like a pro showing problem-solving approaches to a difficult task. He was more than competent and reasonable. I was sad to find today they were wiped clean of Rainbow Looms (I know they are hard to come by!) I also wanted to commend their staff for helping with bulk orders. Michaels now allows you to buy in bulk when you cannot find enough of what you need on the shelf. Michael's is another one of those stores you can get lost in for hours. I really enjoy framing my own prints & paintings. It makes them & their memories that much, more personal to me. At least once a month, you can hit a 50% off sale, & really do your art work proud, for very little money. We like the variety of crafts that this place has for boys, girls, men and women of all ages. We received great customer service from the girl behind the counter, she even took time away from the register to show us the cake decorating schedule and show us where the supplies were. Hang on if you haven't been here in a while. I experienced sticker shock when I looked at the lunch menu today, noting that some of the salads were as much is $18 and the specials were $20 and $25.
