Yikes! What was I ever thinking? I try to go by my own experience vs. relying solely on reviews. In…read morethis case, I was wrong. I suppose I was lucky in the care I received from Dr. Heimer when I did. I take my health seriously. I was under the impression I had a medical team who did, as well. From being rescheduled several times to waiting 2 hours to be seen, I have finally taken my business elsewhere. Thankfully I did, because something very critical has been discovered by my new care team that never should've been missed by Dr. Heimer. He is a very nice person, very personable, and takes plenty of time to chat. When being chatty means the patient suffers in the end, I have an issue. I've missed out on a really good wellness visit for a few years now, because there wasn't the hands on experience with Dr. Heimer that I've been used to my whole life from other doctors. I finally had a really good wellness again, a thorough one, and I will say that doctors and nurse practitioners NEED to touch patients. Press around on them. See if something hurts, if there's swelling or any concerns. Get that bloodwork done, too. Ensure the necessary things are done to catch issues or potential future issues. Had I had the appropriate care from Dr. Heimer, I wouldn't now be looking at lengthy hospital stays, a much larger medical team, and weekly medical appointments. I'm grateful I've moved on from this group. My new medical team wasted no time getting me to an oncologist after results from my wellness were concerning. While my life has changed dramatically, I am thankful my new medical team found the concerns, and took them seriously.

This review is actually based on the care received from Theresa Atkins. She's a FNP-C (Family Nurse…read morePractitioner - certified) that practices out of Dr. Heimer's office - The Professional Arts Building at 1919 State Street, which is across the street from Baptist Health Floyd Hospital. My mother has been a patient of Theresa Atkins for many, many years. Upon returning to the area to care for my mother and attending with her to several appointments, I saw no reason to switch my mother under someone else's care. I'm very satisfied with her medical knowledge, bed-side manners, and professionalism. She's very friendly, approachable and always smiling. She's very gentle and kind to my mother. She asks many questions and listens extremely well to any concerns or general questions I may have, upon which she answers fully. I believe it's Theresa's genuine care for my mother's well-being that has attributed to my mother doing so well in certain areas of her health. She's not quick to prescribe medications (unnecessarily), which I absolutely appreciate about her. Theresa has helped my mother, and me in caring for her, in ways that have benefited us both. Her assistants retrieve their voice messages usually within a day or two (most often within a day) and always return my calls addressing my need. A couple of her assistants weren't the friendliest (although not mean), just not real friendly. But they always got the job done, which is most important. The front desk employees are pretty nice. You can usually tell when they're feeling the stresses of busyness. But they do check in the patients quickly and seem to work well as a team, especially when it gets busy and is needed most. Lastly, there's never a problem getting through their appointment line. This office also has a Phlebotomist on site (located on other side of fish tank - see photo), which is very convenient.
