Babies at that age are not so easy to work with, especially if you want to capture an expression, a moment that reflects their emergining personalities. After providing us with some suggestions about clothing, hats, etc that we might want included in the photos, Dave had us gather at his studio, and he patiently worked with both parents and the baby. Max can be quite restless and in constant motion, but Dave was able to work calmly, quickly, and yet was not distracting or intrusive in the family dynamics. He took a series of shots, and we were then able to pick out our favorites. These photos, taken with such clarity, we then had enlarged and framed and they now grace the walls of our house. I will be forever grateful to have these as family memories. In addition, Dave is an enthusiastic naturalist, and has taken wildlife photos that are amazingly creative. In his studio we viewed some of the recent work that he has done (birds, wolves, coyotes, etc) and decided to order a couple. Instead of framing, we decided to try something different and have the images printed on metal. The resulting clarity turned out to be stunning, almost a 3D effect. From the moment Dan and I started talking about this work, I knew I was in the right space. Dan was collaborative over text and email and a quick call, and when I arrived day of, he'd even hand-picked a couple background colors specifically for me based on our conversations. The day went by quickly, but I never once felt rushed. The space was homey, which I loved -- it made me feel more like I was collaborating with a friend on a project, which soothed my nerves a bit. Dan was an excellent director, offering suggestions for posing when I felt out of my element, and kept me plenty caffeinated too. Nelson created the most beautiful montage of video clips from our wedding day. It was done so professionally, so skillfully, and seamlessly, and we truly felt Nelson captured the most special of moments between my husband and I, as well as our guests, our families, and our venue. There is so much joy in watching all of the small details, all the things we planned months for finally coming together, our vows, the cutting of the cake, our first dance, our guests having a great time... moving images that a still photo can't capture. I could go on and on. We must have watched it five times when we first received it, loving it more and more each time! Where Jon stands apart from all the other wedding photographers I see are: attention to detail, and capturing imaginative snapshots. Attention to detail: sure you can snap a thousand photos, and a handful are great, but Jon sets you up for success. He coaches you with posture, positioning, how clothes drape, your hair, how to walk towards him properly, how to hold each other, exactly which angle to look towards, stand on this exact spot, etc. He knows what will look great, and what needs to change to bring it to amazing. He's also taken enough SF photos that he knows exactly when and where to be! Imaginative snapshots: Jon takes a lot of candid shots, as well as shots with striking lighting or unique framing or from behind a bush (!!!). We enjoyed these shots, and thought they looked fun! Definitely distinctive, and one of a kind. However, when we started putting together an album with all our photos, we realized just how meaningful these shots were. Getting even a good iPhone picture can be difficult! That said, after being a little disappointed with my daughter's six-month photo shoot results, I went in search of a new photographer for her nine-month/family session. Luckily for us, we found Tony. He impressed me from the beginning with his responsiveness and the instant willingness to do an outside photo shoot in December. Tony has an amazing eye for detail and carefully explained how he wanted to set up the various shots. He has a way of making you feel at ease and like you're not posing. From our very first contact with Tony about our newborn photoshoot my husband and I were so…read moreimpressed by his professionalism. He answered all our calls, emails and questions promptly throughout the whole process, from booking to receiving our final photos! During our session we discovered how very warm and clearly passionate he is about what he does. We would even go so far as to call him the "baby whisperer". We were so impressed with how gentle and patient he was in handling our 14 day old newborn girl and his ability to swaddle and calm her so adeptly. We were so grateful to have the professional detailed handout on what to expect during the session and how to prepare. It just made it so much easier for us to know how the morning would go and what we could do to make it as pleasant of an experience for our baby and ourselves. On the morning of the shoot he was exactly on time. For us new parents trying to balance preparing with everything from nursing, eating breakfast, getting ready, and twelve other things, it was so appreciated that he was neither early nor late, the timing was just perfect. Tony is nothing if not prepared, he came with his bag of goodies and brought a good variety of baskets, outfits, wraps, backdrops, and even professional lighting equipment for our shoot so that we would receive a variety of unique photos and poses. He even brought a custom travel themed backdrop and setup after we had mentioned how much how much we love to travel! He was very flexible and patient during our shoot and even extended the session since we lost some extra time due to changing, feeding and general fussiness from our newborn. The final images we received are gorgeous! You can see a few of our favorites here, but there are so many beautiful ones... it's hard to pick faves!
