So, I decided to stick with him in hope my mother will receive the medical care and attention (soft skills) I'd like for her. His practice is located in a nice office park in Jeffersonville. Parking was easy and plentiful. The lobby waiting area is very simple - it lacks warmth and the simpliest decorating touch. We waited a bit long, but it wasn't too terrible. Once we made it to a room the wait for Dr. Penn wasn't bad. I feel Dr. Penn demonstrated the soft skills I seek for my mother. Possessing such soft skills can often translate to the doctor's willingness to share her/his thought process and reasoning for their assessment. Otherwise, the doctor spits out what he/she wants done without offering the reasons for their conclusions and/or concerns, all while sometimes being condescending no matter how many questions you ask to get to the place of understanding. And yes, I am speaking from experience. So...sometimes you must move onward. As with most doctor offices, you'll find plenty of helpful / educational literature regarding your health from the lobby to the room where you'll be seen by Dr. Penn. The private rooms were very clean and neat. Subsequent to my mother's office visit with Dr. Penn we ran into him at the hospital. He immediately recognized us (after that 1st office visit) and showed that he remembered the details of our office visit by asking if we were at the hospital to follow through on what he recommended. We were and he went over the instructions with us again. I was impressed with his taking the time to interact and follow through during an unexpected encounter.

I immediately decided that I was going to switch cardiologists. Plus, I currently see a cardiac electrophysiologist in that same practice. I'm hoping for a little better coordination of care plus a more caring approach.

Come to find out the reason why I was so tired is because I had a heart attack during and I wasn't aware of that. My phone was dead and I woke up at about 11:00 p.m. plugged my phone in and had a missed call and a voicemail from Dr Ummat telling me that I had a serious condition and I needed to be there first thing in the morning for a heart cath not just one but two stents were put in. One of them was the Widowmaker and it was at 99% the other one was high up there too. The man saved my life, anybody who says he's a criminal might need to check their sources before they start degrading the man's professional dignity. I'll stand up for him on a heartbeat. Let's be real about it, not everybody has a good day 100% of the time and be it as that is I can guarantee you even after talking mad crap about him like I just read I bet you anything if he walked in the room while you were having a heart attack you sure as hell wouldn't be calling the police and you would be thinking him after it was over with. I haven't necessarily kept up with my appointments and stuff like I should, I'm 44 years old still thinking I'm 20 but I still know that if I I need to call a cardiologist there's only one I will call.
