Very unresponsive! Gets angry when asked to come out to give estimates.

Joel is so helpful in listening to what I think I want and giving me suggestions. Jerrod, Dusty, Jason and Cammeron built it and did a great job. They are very professional and stayed at it all day till it was done.

I am in southern Florida, and I bought some acreage in a semi-rule area. I wanted to build a…read morehurricane proof house. It is not only hurricane proof, but also fireproof and tornado proof. Of course, if a tree falls on the house, then it will be damaged. But the walls, windows, doors, roof can handle winds over 200mph. ICF house with poured 6" concrete walls, metal roof too. The walls are 12' 5" thick including stucco, insulation, poured concrete, drywall, 1"x4" etc.... As seen here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLVrpCLWONi2MQG-xCHIOPQXwjTHtXNCeX 1: I contacted 18 builders (emails, phone calls, online forms). 11 got back to me out of 18. I then asked those 11 if they build on an owner's lot in Frostproof. Some said no because they only build in their own developments. This left me 7. I then gave these 7 builders a preliminary blueprint of my house and its location (Frostproof on Woodstork Way). 3 came back with general construction dollars/numbers and they also had suggestions for walls, roof, insulation, windows, garage door via email. The final three were: www.lexxusconstruction.com and www.whitmorebuilders.com and www.stewart-construction.net Now I had it narrowed down to 3 builders. 2: I then spent a few hours researching these 3 companies. I looked many factors, including but not limited to BBB (better business bureau), yelp reviews, google reviews, how many times have they built in Polk County, reputation. 3: I even drove to Bartow and did a face-to-face meeting (glass partition between us because of the Covid 19 virus) with a Polk County Florida building inspector that suggested some questions to ask the builders I am interested in working with. (He did not put them in writing, so I took notes on a note pad. I believe he did not want to show a preference but did help me expand my knowledge on how to find a builder). 4: I followed his and also my friend's advice and picked Stewart Construction, they stood out above the rest. (My best friend is in Minnesota, which is where I am from. He had built two homes before. He built his primary home from a lot like I am going to do, but he also built a rustic cabin, so he has gone through this process twice before finding builders and asking questions of the prospective builder. 5: It also appears that Stewart Construction is one of the largest residential home construction builders in central Florida area. 6: But the biggest was a recommendation from www.foxblocks.comsaying that Stewart Construction has experience with FoxBlocks and has indeed built homes using ICF Blocks from www.FoxBlocks.com. 7: I took 74 videos showing each and every step of the construction process starting at the day of the lot being cleared, all the way up to after I moved in. They did a fantastic job, especially with all the problems with the Virus hitting us and also with all the problems of the economy in 2021. They started early 2021 and ended in December 2021. (74+ videos from 5 different cameras: 3 cams mounted outside that are cellular enabled security cameras, 1 drone and my cell phone). Here are the 74 videos: YouTube link: https://www.youtube.com/user/mrsallhomebased/videos 8: They did a fantastic job. High quality work. My biggest suggestion to you is to upgrade all the materials, listen to the construction companies' suggestions. I did and I paid for the top-of-the-line materials to be installed. The main reason is that the labor is going to be nearly the same between the highest quality materials installation and lower quality material installation, so why not just pay a little extra for the highest quality material installed. Upgraded: Including but not limited to a metal roof, insulation of that roof on the roof decking, Cambria Quartz counters, wood flooring, wall and attic insulation, poured concrete walls using: ICF www.foxblocks.com, quality of the ceiling lights and outside lights too, plus upgraded windows, doors, HVAC system and more.

I asked that he please place insulation, but he insisted there was no need and yet, my electric bill has tripled monthly over the last two years. My AC runs constantly and when it rains, you cannot hear anything or anyone because it is soo loud. The drip edge he installed has a backward kick at the bottom so the rain and dew run into, rather than away from, my house, under soffit and eave, down windows, and floods my porches. I reviewed with Gene many times how much this roof needed to be "high and tight" and yet we have had bats roosting and making their way into my house. I withheld the final payment in hopes that he would fix these issues and he threatened to place a lien on my home so I paid him. He promised to make good and Never Did. In fact, he even goated me into hiring a roofing consultant by promising to make the necessary repairs. The consultant sent him what needed to be done and he never did it. There is a whole host of issues associated with this roof. Please hire someone else, like Hightower Roofing. Someone with integrity and honesty. A roofing company that stands behind their work. Don't get taken to the cleaners like I did.
