Dr. Miyamoto was a referral from my primary care doctor. Dr. Miyamoto listens to my concerns and has impeccable credentials. He is very thorough, professional, follows up and responds to my written communications promptly. He takes his time to answers questions without rushing me out the door. Let me start this review by saying that I am a retired ER/OR RN and am particular whom I trust w my health care, Dr. Miyamoto was the THIRD cardiologist I consulted w. He and his staff gave me exemplary care, and I am glad I followed my intuition, pursuing answers to what didn't seem correct to me w the other two cardiologists. I highly recommend Dr. Miyamoto. It is impossible to overstate the excellence of the care I received from him and his staff. Initially, I requested a Calcium Score Test bc of family history. The results were concerning - a thoracic aneurysm and I consulted w a cardiologist affiliated w St. Jude who ordered an echocardiogram, which was carried out at St. Jude. The results were inconclusive (I later learned) due to the tech not knowing alternate probe placement for my anatomy. The cardiologist at St. Jude was not helpful and really lacking in communication skills. I have later learned the EKG leads were likely placed incorrectly and possible old MI was not addressed in the consult- I read about in MyChart and had to send a message first before I received very unsatisfactory answers - from a Medical Assistant! I guess the cardiologist there couldn't be bothered!! All my communication w Dr. Miyamoto was w him directly. I really appreciated that. When the inconclusive results came in from the echo, I asked for alternative tests and never got a satisfactory answer from Cardiologist 1. I was told to do a stress test, which given the aneurysm diagnosis, I was uncomfortable w. I saw a second cardiologist who spent considerable time w me in my appointment and was a remarkably kind, great communicator, but I felt I still didn't have answers. Finally, I saw Dr. Miyamoto, and I am so grateful I did. He ordered the Cardiac MRI, which Mission Hospital scheduled within a few days time. The results were posted on MyChart the night before a holiday. No aneurysm was detected and the exam was essentially normal!! The next day was a holiday (office was closed) yet I received a message from Dr Miyamoto that my report was "very good" and that I could "follow up w my PCP" and didn't need the stress test or further cardiology work up but could return for care if needed. My message is if something seems unsatisfactory or just doesn't feel right w a doctor, seek further consults until you are comfortable w the provider. It is our own health that we have to guard and advocate for. read more

I went to him after my family doctor felt I needed an expert to check my heart. He met with me for 30 minutes and said he would set up stress tests for me and his office would contact me. that was two months ago, no word from his office. he charged me $503 for a "consultation", not an office visit. My insurance company will pay for an office visit, not a "consultation". called his office twice to get it changed, they refused to do it. they never told me i had to pay for this. Don't waste your time. Front office is extremely unorganized and inefficient. Called to make an appointment last week as a new patient and was told they would give me a call back to schedule. (Great way to lose new patients, hopefully they aren't doing a ton of marketing, otherwise their NP acquisition dollars are going to waste.) Fast forward to today, 2 hours before my appt, when I get a call asking to change my appt time. Um, no, I work and have scheduled my entire day and meetings specifically around this appointment. (An appointment, mind you, that is extremely important as I've been having serious, daily palpitations that lead me to call a CARDIOLOGIST. I would see my PCP if I wasn't too concerned!) I'm put on hold and they pick up the phone and ask why I'm holding. I say, "Well, you put me on hold." Then they didn't say anything and just put me back on hold. Someone picks up again and asks if I can make another appointment for today. Again, no I can not. She tells me that the DOCTOR was the one who saw that my appointment was scheduled for 15 minutes. A great office catches these mistakes days in advance and the provider shouldn't be the one to do that. The front office should be doing 2 and 3 day reviews of the schedule making sure it looks efficient and will run smoothly. The kicker for me, and the one that made me cancel my appointment altogether risking my health, was when I asked if the person trying to reschedule was the one that made the mistake. She said, "yes, that's why I apologized before and said it was my mistake." She absolutely did not own the mistake when she initially called to tell me the issue. In a healthcare provider's office, you have to be able to trust that the office has your best interest at heart and runs efficiently. Imagine how many issues could arise in an office that runs this sloppily?? Medication mix ups, image recording hiccups, HIPPA violations... the sky's the limit with this front office!!! read more

The best !! I've been an RN in Orange County for 30 years, this physician is top notch! I My husband went for surgery and found out he was in atrial fibrillation (surgery canceled) my husband is 58 yrs, very active with mountain biking- we had to find a cardiologist with our insurance..... our next door neighbor had chest pain and went to Mission Hospital (highly recommended Dr Miyamoto )- that's how we found Him ! This is absurd! I just started seeing Dr Miyamoto on the recommendation of my former cardiologist, because he specializes in heart failure. I was referred to him by my kidney specialist. Now, the absurd part, the one star review I saw, when I looked him up, was for a Dr MLYAMOTO (sp) and who was, presumably, a dentist based on the written review. Obviously, not my new cardiologist! I'm not not sure how to correct this mistaken identity, but based on my experience, so far, Dr Michael Miyamoto is a wonderful physician. When he received my previous records he recognized the urgency and had his staff move my appointment up. He has been a clear communicator. He has answered my questions in detail and with a real sense of caring. He has arranged necessary tests to be done "ASAP" and has given me a sense that there are some options which improve my condition. I don't have a long history with Dr Miyamoto, but I have a good feeling that I am in the right place, for now. Based on my experience, I would have no problem recommending him to others. read more
