I had Dupuytren's surgery with Dr Grafe in January and unfortunately my overall experience was very disappointing.
At my recent follow-up appointment, I was told that my hand is likely not going to improve any further--and at this point it is no better than it was prior to surgery. I was also told that in some cases these procedures may not result in improvement, and that the goal can sometimes be to prevent the condition from worsening, although even that is not guaranteed.
This was very concerning to hear after the fact. These risks and expectations were not clearly explained to me before the surgery. Had I understood that there was a real possibility of no improvement, I would have approached the decision much differently.
The recovery itself was extremely difficult. I went through roughly three months of significant limitation and discomfort, with very little use of my hand during that time, only to end up without improvement.
I was also told in advance that the procedure would be covered under my insurance. However, I later received a bill for approximately $7,500, of which insurance only paid about $1,500. That was a major and unexpected financial burden.
Communication from the office was also poor. Calls frequently went unanswered, voicemails were often full, and I did not receive callbacks. Additionally, there was no meaningful follow-up after surgery to check on my recovery or progress.
Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this provider. I would strongly encourage others to ask detailed questions about expected outcomes, risks, and insurance coverage before proceeding. read more
