I have (stupidly) been going to this salon for almost a year, primarily because I bought into the hype. I was getting married and I had gone elsewhere to just have my roots blended, but I ended up with streaky, four tone hair.
The first time I went to Michael, I had a very extensive consultation. I brought in pictures and talked about what I wanted very clearly. His wonderful assistant, Natalie, began setting up my color. Michael came over and began second guessing her in front of me. He changed the color. It turned out brunette. I wanted blond! I knew that we were planning to do a few appointments before the wedding, so I paid for the hair that I hated and went home and cried. I decided a day later that I had to have it fixed. They fit me right in and Michael put in highlights at no charge. I was happier. We still had a long way to go.
The next time, I came in with more pictures of what I had been aiming for. Michael mixed up the color, Natalie applied it and I could tell that she was concerned when she was washing it out. There was a lot of rinsing and drying and she had Michael come over to check it. He said "it's fine". When we moved to the dry station...it was like an orange color. Not your typical brassy blonde, more like straight up reddish orange. Again! NOT what I wanted. I paid an absolute ridiculous amount for it and went home. I was exasperated at this point. I have never considered myself to be a difficult client. I have been in the service industry for many years, so I felt bad for not liking my hair. I was getting married and it needed to be fixed!! AND I had paid over $350.00! I called Michael again and told him that it had to be fixed. This time, Michael made adjustments to the color formula and was very bratty about it. After Natalie washed it out, she called Michael over to see what he thought. He said "well, I thought it looked beautiful before we started, so I don't know." I was taken aback, but I had more on my plate than a bratty hair stylist, so I chuckled to myself a bit about how awful his attitude was. My hair came out better. Natalie assured me that the next time they would get it right. I hoped so, because the "next time" was the week of my wedding.
The reason I went back, was for Natalie. She was special and very talented, even with Michael second guessing her all of the time. The week of my wedding, Michael came to talk about color with her and I. After the consult, I could tell that Natalie didn't agree with what Michael had said. I flat out told her that I wanted HER to trust herself and do what SHE thought. It came out perfectly. I was elated. I didn't care how much it cost. It was unfortunate that it took forever to get it that way. Michael was a brat to me again. I didn't care. I was there for Natalie's talent, not his.
The next time, I was very sad to learn that Natalie had left. Michael mixed up my color and asked if I wanted to go a bit lighter. I said sure. Throughout this experience, I listened to Michael talk about himself, which he is very good at. He talked about how much money he has made and lost, how many properties he owns, the $100,000.00 car that he finally got rid of, and generally is just..a brat! My hair turned out yellow..with the telltale "brassiness" at the base. Tired of complaining and feeling like a completely impossible client, I overpaid again and left. I figured that I could settle with "not that satisfied" but I started looking for another hair studio.
I had MY LAST appointment at Michael Angelos ever yesterday!! I kid you not when I tell you that Michael barely said one word to me the entire time he was doing my hair. I wanted the roots blended, because I don't want to pay over $400.00 for my hair every 8 weeks! He didn't ask me questions. He barely glanced at my pictures. He was running 30 minutes behind. I had plans later and knew that I would run late now too. As he put my color in, I was astounded at how rude he was. I sat there, stunned, that this man wasn't saying anything. It was bizarre. Then, another client came in and told Michael that it looked like he had lost weight. Michael laboriously replied "well, when you work as many hours as I do a week, there's no choice". Give me a break! I work my ass off too! I just worked 2 weeks straight and I don't even do "what I love". I am lucky to even have a day off! How else would I be able to afford this ridiculous hair?!
My hair turned out very similar to the way it looked when I first came to Michael. Streaky, four tone hair.
The ONLY time that I have gotten the color that I wanted, it wasn't done by Michael. I have been here nearly 10 times. Trust me..it is not worth it and he doesn't want your business. Not sure why people put up with the prices, the attitude and the lackluster talent. I am such an idiot for going here so many times. read more
