I have been a patient of Dr. Michael Akpeke for almost 20 years, and I can confidently say he is the best doctor I have ever had. Dr. Akpeke compassionate, and truly takes the time to listen to his patients. He cares deeply about what you're going through and works hard to create a personalized plan to help you feel better. His attention to detail and genuine concern for his patients' well-being is unmatched. On top of that, his staff is equally remarkable. They consistently go out of their way to assist in any way they can, making every visit a positive experience. I cannot recommend Dr. Akpeke and his team enough. He's a very straight forward caring doctor. He tells you what exactly is going on with your health and his concerns and how he's going to handle your situation. He will give you the best referral specialist that he knows will care for you and he requires feedback from specialist. I have been his patient for over 10 years. If he wasn't for him I would have been dead already with other doctors who didn't care about my health and all they wanted is to collect the money from my insurance. He works along with my daughter who's a nurse about my health. I'm glad to have him as my primary care physician especially when I walk in at any Orlando Health hospital or Advent Health hospital, the minute I mention his name as my physician. He's respected among his colleagues. The office workers are very courteous. read more

Outdated practice no online information or test results understaffed and not technically effective

Dr. Apeke is a great Dr. I was hesitant on seeing him because of his reviews but took a chance based off the recommendation from my Orthopedic Dr. and i'm glad I did. He is very knowledgeable and very caring. He takes his time with his patients, doesn't rush thru the visit and is very thorough. He is a straight shooter so you might not like his delivery method but your body and health will thank him. Don't let the negative reviews cheat you out of seeing a good Dr. that will do everything in his power to help you. read more

You wait over an hour because the receptionists ignore you and are going to charge you $142 just to be SEEN and not even get a physical that you were under the impression you were getting, just go eventually be sent back to a room and have a nurse laugh at you while taking your temperature. I expressed how the temperature she read was abnormally high for me and she went back out into the other room and was shouting my temperature numbers and laughing with some other nurse. I'm already stressed out because I didn't anticipate paying $142 and have a nurse find comedic relief in my temperature, but I am then left waiting in this room for quite awhile, only to be moved to the next room over because the doctor doesn't want to move his computer into that room. I'm in a massive amount of pain at this point so I reluctantly get up and change rooms. There's no space for social distancing in this office and no effort is made to make it safe or enforce safety. The doctor came in, and I explained my need to get a referral to a neurologist and I am interrupted, and degraded. He tells me that my brain tumor couldn't have been cancerous if I didn't get chemo for it and won't even listen to my history. He expresses interest ONLY in where specifically I got my surgeries, and rolls his eyes when I try to explain the type of tumor and the surgeries I had. I am insanely stressed out at this point and am fidgeting, which he takes as an opportunity to push anxiety medication. I explain that I am in therapy already to try to help with it, and am then berated and told that no neurologist will help me if I have anxiety because I can't be in an MRI with it. All I wanted was a script for an MRI or a referral to a neurologist, this doctor continues to interrupt and speak over me, I can't even get a word in on my history. I eventually snap and run the heck out of the room and into the checkout area, where another physician approaches me. She calms me down a little, gets me my refund for my insanely degrading experience, and gives me a phone number to another doctor down the road that she thinks will help me and will get me the adequate accommodations I need to check and make sure my stupid brain cancer isn't coming back. I've checked out reviews, and this doctor has been accused of malpractice and misdiagnosing, which is exactly the reasons I explained I am uncomfortable around doctors. He and his staff were beyond inconsiderate and he made me feel insanely unsafe, and that's before he sent me into an anxiety attack that kicked in my fight or flight response, because I felt so deeply that I had put myself in danger here. Other reviews (to which you may find him rebuttal with a poor excuse like how it didn't happen at his office and they have the wrong doctor) include accounts of sexually inappropriate contact, prescribing and pushing medicines that people have already stated they are allergic to, refusing to listen to patients, making inappropriate comments (particularly about women's bodies) and fat shaming / telling people they need to improve their looks to get a boyfriend, violating patient confidentiality, answering personal calls during appointments, and general refusal to listen to and treat patients for the issues they've come in for. You'll also be waiting a few hours to be seen, so don't schedule time off of work for him. This man is going to get someone killed or seriously hurt someone, and I hope he gets sued. This doctor should not be practicing, because there is no interest in treatment for patients, and patient safety is not even a consideration at his practice. After my experience today, I absolutely understand and believe the negative reviews. Reconsider this doctor as an option, you will physically, mentally, and financially benefit from it. I would never let him touch or talk to any family member in my family. He is very incompetent as a doctor. My husband was seen by him at Advent Health, Orlando hospital. Never listen to anything I said. My husband had a infection that was making him confused and never did he ask me about it. Just keep prescribing pain meds. I finely had to insist to take him off my husband's care. Don't let him care for you or your family. He is a terrible doctor. read more

Akpeke was my assigned Hospitalist after thoracic surgery. He obviously makes things very difficult for anyone he interacts with if they don't have exactly what he wants exactly when he wants it. When it came to my pain management in recovery, he said one dose and prescribed half that dose. It took me THREE DAYS to get anything from him and the only explanation was "that's how he always does it", then he "supplemented" what he actually gave me by prescribing something I am allergic to!!! Wouldn't even take two minutes to verify my allergies before throwing something at me to shut me up. The poor sap that actually got me answers from him was told he'd be getting a talking to by Akpeke later that day, FOR BOTHERING HIM ABOUT A PATIENT IN HIS CARE. If I could leave zero stars I would. The staff at his office is completely unhelpful. They don't care at all about you as a patient, only money. I needed a form filled out for my health insurance and told them when my deadline was. It was a simple form that only required a signature. I was told oh well we won't have that form filled out by your deadline it's going to take 10 days. When I explained about my insurance situation they basically just shrugged their shoulders and said oh well. I have dropped him as my physician immediately and honestly after the way they treated me I would t even take my dog to be treated by anyone at his office. read more

Couldn't care less about your health. Go somewhere else . I was berated for leaving too many voicemails when I was sick. Told there was nothing they could do for me. Find a reputable doctor. Not one as broken down and useless as Dr. Akpeke. Dr. Akpeke take your practice back to Africa where it may be more appreciated by you're Nigerian fellows and not passed off as a cheap solution to western illnesses. read more

I've been sent twice to this doctor because I needed a medical clearance. Both times the experience was very unpleasant. The TV is blasting loud in the small, crowded waiting room. Both times I was left to wait over 2 hrs in said waiting room and then another hour in exam room. Dr Akpeke is virtually blind. He was arrogant and brief. He cracked inappropriate jokes that were far from funny. He took 2 phone calls during the exam which seemed like personal calls. I do not ever want to go back. read more

Two hours late to every appointment. He never realy takes your health concerns into account. He treats you as if you are an inconvenience to him and will push you out the door very quickly. My health has declined by having this doctor be my primary care provider. His staff is nice and tries to accommodate his lack of caring. read more

He is without an extremely unkind person. He comes in and says why don't I loose weight. Yes I am overweight but to ask why I don't just do it as if it is so easy is inconsiderate. He just goes over my meds, never asks if there is anything that is bothering me or even takes his stethoscope and listens to my lungs or heart. Plus he charges $100 per visit and I always wait at least 45 mins or more in the office before seeing him. I've always wanted to ask him if he would lower the cost but I'm kind of afraid of him. I'd go to some one else but it is hard to find someone who will take a self pay patient.! read more

After waiting an hour after my appointment time, I'm called in to an exam room. The good doctor proceeds to make 2 phone calls while I'm sitting around like boo-boo-the-fool. The first was to berate, whom I could only assume was his wife, about how stupid she is and how a woman shouldn't talk to mechanics because they are too dumb to understand. The second was to a woman in a surgeon's office who apparently mis-coded another patient's insurance paperwork (during which I excused myself to the restroom so as not to be exposed to privileged information). After I returned, and the call finally ended, we proceed with typical first visit formalities. These led to him inspecting my (always) swollen legs and cracking on the fact that I hadn't shaved my legs. (Sorry, not sorry. I'd been sick for over a week!) I tell him what I think is wrong with me, to which he immediately dismisses me and proclaims that I have something I obviously don't have, and doesn't even order tests for confirmation. He tells me I'm fat, that the mole on my forehead (that hasn't changed in 20 years) needs to be removed immediately, and that he's going to prescribe me medication (for the condition I don't have) even after I told him they would make me sick. He says if they make me sick I should call the office. Fine. Then he asks me about my dietary habits. I explain that I have been trying to make better choices but sometimes it's difficult because my husband and I have such different schedules. He then says, "so all he sees of you is your coochie". I managed to get out of the visit without any more offenses. The medicine he gave me (SURPRISE!!!) made me sick, so I called the office. The nurse tells me I need to go to the ER IMMEDIATELY for blood work to rule out another condition (that I knew I didn't have). The emergency staff didn't really get why it was so urgent for me to be there and quickly got test results confirming that I would be fine once I stopped taking the medicine I never needed. Let's just say that Dr. Michael Akpeke is a sexisit, incompetent, jerk. BTW - He never attempted to treat the sinus infection I had, or called to find out how the ER visit went. I called today to cancel my follow-up appointment and informed the office that I would not be returning. Ever. read more
