I had a home birth, Carol was my midwife and Renee was her assistant, they were extremely professional and Carol is such an amazing midwife, experienced and knowledgeable. I had a water birth, a 100% natural, and my experience was beautiful. I had a healthy and strong baby, my first baby at 37 after 12 hrs labor work and she didn't even have to stitch me up, I had a speedy recovery and my baby is a month already. Absolutely amazing! I cannot say enough about every aspect of their operation, from the kind knowledgable staff to the classes and overall information they provided. My wife really wanted a different birthing experience as we originally started off at a OBGYN office and were not happy with the basic care provided. Many times people get very nervous with using a birthing center over a hospital but after your first visit with them this will all go out the door. They provide you with so much more information and care than other provider's and truly make it a whole new level of experience. They go far beyond the basic care a typical provider gives. They focus on the mothers overall health (since it greatly effects the baby), from their diet, how much they are being active, how much knowledge they have, and give you so many resources/exercises to prepare your body for the process. Versus a normal practice where they just give you basic care and handle things as they come up at birth vs being preventive from the start. This experience was everything my wife wanted and more. The women who work here are truly dedicated to their work and it shows in the way they care for each woman who walks through their door. As a first-time mom, I knew I didn't want to give birth at a hospital because I didn't want to be treated like a patient that had a sickness. I wanted this experience to feel special and empowering. I first called the maternity center when I found out I was pregnant and spoke with Dahlia, the incredible woman who would ultimately become my doula. She made me feel so heard, loved and cared for in that first conversation over the phone. During my first appointment, Dahlia gave me a tour of the facility and I met the rest of the staff: Micka, Tania, Carol, and Renee. I knew after meeting everyone that this was where I wanted to have my baby. Throughout the rest of my pregnancy, I was given highly individualized care that focused on holistic health and well-being, with an emphasis on nutrition to ensure I was getting the proper nutrients, vitamins and minerals for a healthy mom & baby, and a successful delivery. At 40 weeks, I delivered my healthy and beautiful baby girl at the center with Tania (midwife) and Dahlia (doula) as my birth team. Well, I was one of the center's first moms to give birth with them back in 1996! I had a very difficult labor where my baby turned while in labor. In a hospital, I would have had to have a C-section but at the Birth Center, Shari Daniels, turned my baby around inside me and I had a totally natural birth. My second baby in 2000 was another difficult one. I was in labor for 5 days until finally, I had him in 24 minutes. He was a spontaneous birth and he wasn't breathing. Shari kept him connected to the umbilical cord and resuscitated him within 3 minutes. It was incredible. By the time I had my third baby in 2003, with Carol, all the midwives thought I would have another amazing birth but she was just perfect. Let me start by saying, I am so happy I found MMC. I can't even begin to describe the love my husband and I have for the women of this center. If you're looking to have a drug/intervention free birth in a home like setting surrounded by women who are there to encourage/guide and teach you every step of the way, this is your go to spot. I will admit, the center is a little outdated compared to hospitals and my typical Miami girl snobbishness kicked in the first time we visited, but let me say that if this center was located in a mud pit, I would still come here to give birth. It was really important for me to find a midwife that had my back and didn't make me feel insane for wanting a different birthing process than the normal hospital birth. Hospitals terrify me and I truly believe being pregnant is not an illness and if you're a healthy low risk woman, it should not take place in a hospital. I also love the fact they make sure you stay on top of your diet and exercises. And by they I mean Dahlia, whom I both love and am completely terrified of. She's like my scary Jamaican aunt I just want to cuddle. I have crazy anemias I didn't even know about until I came here and started doing blood work on the reg and instead of sending me to an OBGYN, they kept a close eye on my platelets and hemoglobin levels (don't know what that is? I promise you will after you're pregnant *SIGH*) Dahlia basically called me every day to make sure I was doing what I had to do, eating what I had to be eating and not crying about it. And then there's Carol, beautiful sweet little carol. I literally teared up saying bye to her my last appointment because of how much I love this woman. I've never met anyone that has as much strength and patience as her. I'm so happy I was able to have her as my midwife during my labor and delivery. She made me feel confident and strong about my body and made it easier for me to trust that Mother Nature would do its thing. She helped me bring my beautiful baby boy into world and for that I am forever grateful. November 2013: My little boy is here! He was born 6 days past his due date in October and it was a fabulous birth experience. I went into labor at 3am and after laboring at home for a while we decided to head to the center. DellaReece checked me... only 2cm dilated at 10:30am!! Seriously?? She suggested heading home to take a bath, hang out and relax. I did - got in the tub and labored in there for a while. Got out, was really uncomfortable and got back in the tub. Hubby called Dahlia around 1:30 and told her I was grunting in the tub. "Get her here!" So we made the trip down. Contractions coming every 3 minutes, lasting about 45-55 seconds. When we got to the center Carol checked me and I was a full 10cm at 2:00 - about 3 and a half hours to go from 2 to 10 cm... crazy! My water broke and Carol barely got me in the tub lol. Pushed for 25 minutes and Reilly came tumbling out! It was quite amazing... labor was not as bad as I thought and he was here before I knew it! Carol was awesome and I was so glad to be able to have a drug free birth in a nice warm tub with my husband, friend and Carol by my side. Wow, how can I start?! I transferred from the hospital at 37 weeks after hearing from three different sources about Miami maternity center services. It felt serendipitous... I had looked them up myself on yelp at the beginning of my pregnancy and I had quite loved their reviews. But I wasn't ready to take the Leap of faith. Then all the signs started to show once random people such as farmers market vendor, plumber and friend mentioned how great they were. I gave birth on September 15 and had the best delivery experience ever! From the classes I received from tanya and from the informative follow ups I had prior to birthing, i felt I was so ready to embark on the journey. Carol was my midwife and I'm so appreciative for her calm demeanor and clarity about the process. I delivered in 24 hours but I only stayed at the center from 4pm until 2:11am that he was born. I was just done yesterday with our 6 weeks follow up and we are so saddened to have to get back to reality and find a pediatrician. Loved their attention and knowledge. I spent 36 weeks of my pregnancy with a horrible OB/GYN that would never want to spend more than 5 minutes with me during visits, didn't want to discuss my birth plan, and scheduled me for a C-Section because my baby was "too big" (My baby is dropped and probably weighs around 8.5 lbs) I've had an extremely healthy pregnancy so I knew something was wrong. MIAMI MATERNITY CENTER: They advised me, I took the 4 week FREE birthing classes, and finally at 37 weeks, I switched to this place and they gladly took me. They accepted Medicaid. I did a lot of research before making my choice, they made sure I was a good candidate to deliver here, and they don't treat you like just another number. I felt respected and cared for. But I'll be honest, I lost my cool this time. I was 42 weeks and had induced myself at home with the breast pump so my labor was COMPLETELY different than with the girls. (I don't believe in old wives nonsense and don't believe it was Alex's fault for being a boy.) We just had a water birth at the Miami Maternity Center and gave birth to a super healthy Baby Girl. This place is the real deal. My partner and I switched to MMC from a clinic a couple of months back because we weren't getting the information needed to bring this baby to the world and speaking to other parents we were told that many other clinics and hospitals just see you, check you up, release you and leave you with a ton of questions and insecure about the whole process of the pregnancy. Once we started going to the MMC, the staff was super nice, receptive, warm, and gave us all the info we needed. They saw my partner and help her with nutrition, guided us step by step on all the stages of labor, what we were going to go through, what to expect, and much more. i am forever thankful to Carol and her team. If I lived on mars, I would fly back to earth just to give birth at the Miami Maternity Center. For anyone who wants to experience an all-natural birth and be treated with tender, love and care, I recommend Miami Maternity Center. I would give a trillion stars but Yelp only allows 5. Back in 2011, I gave birth to my daughter at the Miami Maternity Center. The service I received was beyond my expectations. The staff is very friendly and knowledgable. The prenatal visits were standard routine like any other place, but what makes Miami Maternity stand out is the birthing experience. One day, I was leaking a small amount of fluid, but did not experience areas of pain or contractions. I called their emergency line and told them I'm in labor. I assumed I was in labor at that moment based on my previous experience in Canada. After answering a few questions and paying them a visit, they determined I was not ready to give birth yet. 3 days later, when the pain and contractions kicked in, I called again, they determined I was in true labor. We got to the birthing center and 2 hours and 49 minutes later, I gave birth to our daughter. This is exactly how natural birth is supposed to happen. Miami Maternity Center literally allows mother nature to take its course, unlike my experience in Canada. In Canada, back in 2008, I was not in true labor. As mentioned earlier, I thought I was in labor because I had a little bit of a leak come down, but no pain, so I rushed to the hospital. The doctor in Canada took his fist and shoved it right up my vagina in order to force induce my labor. After a few hours, since my labor was moving extremely slowly, the doctor gave me pitocin to speed up the labor process. After 25 hours of agony, I finally gave birth to my son. Imagine, what its like to go from 25 hours to 2 hours and 49 mins, simply by allowing birth to happen 100% naturally. I felt the doctor in Canada took advantage of me since it was my first time giving birth and I was completely oblivious to birthing. On the bright side, Miami Maternity Center has made me more knowledgable and aware of birthing. Last year, I was residing in Northbrook, IL. At the time, I wished I could have given birth at the Miami Maternity Center, but IL was too far from FL. I initially had the plan to give birth in Illinois. I visited a team of IL midwives throughout my pregnancy. I went as far as driving 1 hour each way just so I can give natural birth. I went to the standard routined prenatal visits as usual. One day, when I was 35 weeks pregnant, I got the most disturbing news a pregnant woman could ever imagine. Without even confirming on an ultrasound, the midwife told me my son was in a breach position and that I would have to get a c-section. She even went as far as saying if I experience even the slightest cramping that I must rush in and get the c-section done sooner. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. She even went as far as saying if the baby is in the right position, but decides to go into a breach position during birth that I would still be stuck with a c-section. After I left that appointment, I told my husband about the disturbing news. We decided to give Miami Maternity Center a call. I begged Miami Maternity Center to take me in even though I was 35 weeks pregnant. I told them I will do anything to avoid a c-section. They told me to come on down. After 20 hours of driving, the following morning, I went to see Carol and her team. Carol confirmed on an ultrasound that my son was not in a breach position. A few weeks later, I gave natural birth to my son. During both my birthing experiences at the Miami Maternity Center, I was treated with the utmost respect. The staff treats you like family. They make all efforts to ease labor and are very supportive. It's nice to know during this lifetime I am able to get the same kind of birthing experience that my foremothers got to experience: An all natural birth served with love and care. I have had three children, all of whom were born at Miami Maternity Center. I am a litigation attorney and would not have selected this birthing center if it was not safe for mother and child. Every time, and every step, I received nothing but wisdom and love. Along the way we had issues like an anemic mother, a baby whose heart rate was not being picked up, leaking amniotic fluid and insurance nightmares. Carol Williams and her staff were prepared every step of the way. As our family grew, they were understanding when my husband and I would show up for appointments with extra kids in tow! Last time around, I had a period where I knew if I was in a hospital either I would have been pumped full of labor inducing drugs or given a C-section. Instead, we let my body do what it does and I gave birth to a healthy 8 pound baby girl without any sutures, C-section or NICU. I could not be more grateful. I also love the focus on education, with midwifery students involved in my prenatal care, labor, delivery and postpartum care. I can't say enough about this place and the entire staff! From the moment I stepped foot in the center I was welcomed with open arms and felt all the positive vibes. When I switched from my dr at the hospital to midwives at the center I felt so much more confident and secure that I was in good hands and able to make educated decisions myself in my pregnancy journey. My labor was 58 hours and I know I couldn't of done it without them- Mika, Tanya, Dahlia, and Carol all stayed the entire time with me. There are not enough words to describe how wonderful, nurturing, smart, kind, funny, and just all incredible these women are. As a public health practitioner who works at Sylvester Cancer Center, my eyes were sharp, but these women are the real deal. It is a free standing center, but it is run like a public health clinic. Their charts and notes are impeccable, they followed my nutrition, my weight, my mental health and other stats....its a holistic approach you do NOT get in today's OBGYN clinics. I started out my pregnancy at an Obgyn office and switched to these women after 2 visits. These ladies care about every woman and every baby born here. (Carole is just amazing, I honestly can't thank her enough). I had my first baby at another birth center in the area, and hands down there was no comparison. The building and surrounding areas are old, but its clean, it's not some hippie dippie place. They are knowledgeable and on top of your health. If you want to have a natural birth, they will do everything possible to help you do that. Carole was with me the whole time, and she guided my baby out slowly and patiently with no issues, no tears, no stitches. I only wish there were more places like this and more women like these. The birth was beautifull and full of joy, and being an emergency as it was, I was thrilled how conected and in synchrony the experience was from beginning to end with all attendences till the delivery room. However, their Financial Center has a big issue with Miss "Andrea" if I had not miss spelling, she was extremely rude when claiming the payment with 2 days in advance, in a very incisive manner, specially with a Mom that just had a baby. I had the worst experience giving birth to my 2nd son here. I had my first son naturally at a birthing center on the west coast of Florida and it was a wonderful experience. The owner of the Miami Maternity Center delivered my 2nd son. It was so unbelievably insane but she kept yelling at me. She even said, "I bet the way you are acting is exactly how you acted towards your mother when you were young." She said this while I was honestly just silently having a contraction and was 15 minutes away from giving birth to my son. I really, at the time, couldn't tell if I was doing something wrong or if it was her just being very very psychotic. She stormed out of the room after saying that. Then her assistant came over to me and she said to me "you are doing great. It's not you it's her, she didn't sleep for 48 hours straight." I was still so disturbed by it until I was able to reflect on it with a rational mind. She knew that she ruined my birth experience badly but she still requested payment. In hindsight I should have refused to pay as this experience was literally the worst experience I have ever had. It certainly isn't a way you want to bring a baby into the world. She never apologized to me but tried acting friendly after when I saw her for the follow up appointments. I clearly don't recommend this place. read more

I had my first child at the Maternity Center in June 2008 with Shari and had a great birth. We had a water birth and pushed for 21 minutes =) On April 2010 we became repeat patients of the center having our second child also a water birth pushed 7 minutes with Carol. I cant say but great things of having natural birth in an environment that allows the body to do what it was born to do. They offer birthing classes to everyone even for non patients of the center. They also have an emergency cell line for any reason, even if just a question of concern answered for you 24/7. I don't like hospitals nor their environment this truly always bothered me until one day i watched the TV Show House of Babies on the Discovery Channel and fell in love with the center, their people, and the idea of it. TRULY RECOMMEND IT TO EVERYONE though this may not be for everyone, there has to be a lot of determination from the mommy to be to have a baby meds free. read more

We had our first baby here with Carol, Tania, Dalia, Judy, and Mika. We had questions throughout the process but everyone was always helpful and ever-ready to respond. The classes that Dalia teaches for the expectant parents were informative and relieving and gave us every idea of what to expect. We got expert advice when my wife's iron count was below the minimum allowed to give birth at a birth center, by taking the iron supplement and diet recommended my Dalia, her points shot back up within normal range. We also had to work on my wife's high glucose levels, but this was also remedied by the recommended diet and activities. This was obviously much healthier for my wife and the baby! During the birth, Carol and Tania switched in and out and one of them was always present until the labor started to progress further and both were there helping every step of the way. Our labor lasted 22 hours at the center, (much longer than average) but Carol and Tania treated us like we were family and this baby was their own. They had so much patience, expertise, and love! We are just so happy with how great they are and what they did for us. Even after the birth, they called us and checked in our progress and had us visit to make sure everything was all right. Also, the price was the most affordable of all the birth centers we visited. Miami Maternity Center is the best place to have your baby in our opinion and we will see them again in the future should we have another little blessing on the way :) read more

I LOVE this place! Carol is WONDERFUL! I had 2 babies at the center and so grateful for the care I received at MMC. Amazing birth experience, I was supported all the way thru pregnancy and post partum. I knew my second baby was going to be big (she was 9lbs 4 oz at birth), but I knew I was going to be in great hands! Thank you Carol for giving me strength on the 2 days that I needed it most.
