I was recommended this center by a couple that I highly value. I am so glad I listened. Dahlia and Carol were a phenomenal team. They are very knowledgeable and I do not have the words to express my gratitude towards them. They prepared my wife and I thoroughly. This is my first newborn and Dahlia really helped us become equipped in how to prepare ourselves and what to do once born. Our baby boy was born today, healthy, and my wifr is just fine. I highly recommend them. If I have another child it will be here again.

Let me start by saying, I am so happy I found MMC. I can't even begin to describe the love my husband and I have for the women of this center. If you're looking to have a drug/intervention free birth in a home like setting surrounded by women who are there to encourage/guide and teach you every step of the way, this is your go to spot. I will admit, the center is a little outdated compared to hospitals and my typical Miami girl snobbishness kicked in the first time we visited, but let me say that if this center was located in a mud pit, I would still come here to give birth. It was really important for me to find a midwife that had my back and didn't make me feel insane for wanting a different birthing process than the normal hospital birth. Hospitals terrify me and I truly believe being pregnant is not an illness and if you're a healthy low risk woman, it should not take place in a hospital. I also love the fact they make sure you stay on top of your diet and exercises. And by they I mean Dahlia, whom I both love and am completely terrified of. She's like my scary Jamaican aunt I just want to cuddle. I have crazy anemias I didn't even know about until I came here and started doing blood work on the reg and instead of sending me to an OBGYN, they kept a close eye on my platelets and hemoglobin levels (don't know what that is? I promise you will after you're pregnant *SIGH*) Dahlia basically called me every day to make sure I was doing what I had to do, eating what I had to be eating and not crying about it. And then there's Carol, beautiful sweet little carol. I literally teared up saying bye to her my last appointment because of how much I love this woman. I've never met anyone that has as much strength and patience as her. I'm so happy I was able to have her as my midwife during my labor and delivery. She made me feel confident and strong about my body and made it easier for me to trust that Mother Nature would do its thing. She helped me bring my beautiful baby boy into world and for that I am forever grateful. So if you're looking to be surrounded by amazing strong women, who will help you achieve the birth you're looking for, make sure you leave having a successful breast feeding relationship with your child, teach you everything from what can go wrong to birth control - I highly recommend MMC.

November 2013: My little boy is here! He was born 6 days past his due date in October and it was a fabulous birth experience. I went into labor at 3am and after laboring at home for a while we decided to head to the center. DellaReece checked me... only 2cm dilated at 10:30am!! Seriously?? She suggested heading home to take a bath, hang out and relax. I did - got in the tub and labored in there for a while. Got out, was really uncomfortable and got back in the tub. Hubby called Dahlia around 1:30 and told her I was grunting in the tub. "Get her here!" So we made the trip down. Contractions coming every 3 minutes, lasting about 45-55 seconds. When we got to the center Carol checked me and I was a full 10cm at 2:00 - about 3 and a half hours to go from 2 to 10 cm... crazy! My water broke and Carol barely got me in the tub lol. Pushed for 25 minutes and Reilly came tumbling out! It was quite amazing... labor was not as bad as I thought and he was here before I knew it! Carol was awesome and I was so glad to be able to have a drug free birth in a nice warm tub with my husband, friend and Carol by my side. I have one more newborn checkup with them - which makes me sad cause I've been seeing them for almost a year! I told Carol I have to get pregnant again so I can come back :)

Wow, how can I start?! I transferred from the hospital at 37 weeks after hearing from three different sources about Miami maternity center services. It felt serendipitous... I had looked them up myself on yelp at the beginning of my pregnancy and I had quite loved their reviews. But I wasn't ready to take the Leap of faith. Then all the signs started to show once random people such as farmers market vendor, plumber and friend mentioned how great they were. I gave birth on September 15 and had the best delivery experience ever! From the classes I received from tanya and from the informative follow ups I had prior to birthing, i felt I was so ready to embark on the journey. Carol was my midwife and I'm so appreciative for her calm demeanor and clarity about the process. I delivered in 24 hours but I only stayed at the center from 4pm until 2:11am that he was born. I was just done yesterday with our 6 weeks follow up and we are so saddened to have to get back to reality and find a pediatrician. Loved their attention and knowledge. More women should step up to their power and have natural births. It's empowering and with these girls on your team it makes it easy!!! Baby Alec loves your girls!!!

Third time's a charm! I gave birth to my third (AND FINAL) child... a BOUNCING BABY BOY! All of my children were delivered here, at the Miami Maternity Center. But I'll be honest, I lost my cool this time. I was 42 weeks and had induced myself at home with the breast pump so my labor was COMPLETELY different than with the girls. (I don't believe in old wives nonsense and don't believe it was Alex's fault for being a boy.) When I started to go through transition, I thought I needed to be transferred and couldn't do it this time. (I'd been saying I was too old and fat this entire pregnancy.) And my second child was 9 lbs... HOW BIG IS THIS ONE GOING TO BE!?! But Carol and ALL OF MY FAMILY (One of the many benefits to birthing here is you can invite the whole crew if you want to, no limits!) calmed me down and got me focused again and I was able to deliver my 8 lbs 1 oz healthy baby boy surrounded by love. You are you here. Not a chart or a number or an insurance claim. If your reading this review, you've already done your research and KNOW that a non-invasive birth is what is best for you and your baby. They are going to take care of you and your baby and help YOU do what you gotta do. Because it's you, and not some doctor or hospital, that has got to do the work in the end.

There are not enough words to describe how wonderful, nurturing, smart, kind, funny, and just all incredible these women are. As a public health practitioner who works at Sylvester Cancer Center, my eyes were sharp, but these women are the real deal. It is a free standing center, but it is run like a public health clinic. Their charts and notes are impeccable, they followed my nutrition, my weight, my mental health and other stats....its a holistic approach you do NOT get in today's OBGYN clinics. I started out my pregnancy at an Obgyn office and switched to these women after 2 visits. These ladies care about every woman and every baby born here. (Carole is just amazing, I honestly can't thank her enough). I had my first baby at another birth center in the area, and hands down there was no comparison. The building and surrounding areas are old, but its clean, it's not some hippie dippie place. They are knowledgeable and on top of your health. If you want to have a natural birth, they will do everything possible to help you do that. Carole was with me the whole time, and she guided my baby out slowly and patiently with no issues, no tears, no stitches. I only wish there were more places like this and more women like these. My hat goes off to the work they do. I was so excited to get our picture on their wall!

If you are…read moreconsidering this practice because you have heard great things about Dr Fink, know that more likely that not, you will never see him. My review on his practice: STILLBIRTH DELIVERY on 1.1.15 Longest and most heartfelt review I will write on yelp: From day 1, I never waned to see Dr Tumero, as a close friend of mine had a still birth in 2nd tri under her care. Said friend reviewed her file with head doctor (Fink), both came to the conclusion that closer monitoring and treatment could had made a difference. Fast forward and guess who I get stuck with? Yes, Dr. Tumero Details:I had a regular doctors visit on 12/31/14, during my ultrasound, tech noticed that heartbeat was slow, she quickly called Dr Simmel in and I was asked to head over to baptist for further monitoring. Upon arriving to baptist (5 minutes later, as building is right next door), my daughters heartbeat was detected by monitor used by nurse. Five minutes later, Dr Tumero (who was on duty at hospital) shows up and requests bed side u/s. U/s tech arrived within a couple of minutes and by then, my daughter was gone. Between time of my arrival, check in, blah blah blah, about 10 minutes passed. Though you maybe thinking, 10 minutes is not that long, it is when your child's life is at risk. Knowing what I know now (further testing detected that I have an autoimmune disease which often correlates with still births if left untreated) I understand that OTHER factors COULD have caused my daughters passing, however, we did not know (still don't) what "the cause" was when it was all going down,so my thoughts are: If Dr. Simmel called baptist to let them know that I was heading there with baby with slow heartbeat, why the delay in dr Tumero showing up? My daughter passed away at this hospital, all while we were present. Why was an emergency c- section not done if one minute there was heartbeat and not the next? so many questions. I know that nothing will ever bring her back, but I question the response time and how the situation was handled. ------- As if what I described above is not reason enough as to why to avoid this practice, here are additional mishaps that took place during pregnancy. I had a VERY healthy pregnancy, so my visits were short and to the point. However, there were many mishaps along the way, one of them being that a test which is done during 2nd trimester detecting abnormalities was overlooked. They apologized for that, and during that time I didn't think it was a big deal, but after having lost my child, I wish that every single test had been done. Aside from that, there was a lot of back and forth with medication prescribed (Diclegis for nausea and vomiting) the office sent prescription to my pharmacy for wrong amount (less pills) so I was having to go back for refills every couple of weeks, spending more money per bottler, wasting time and gas. It wasn't until the pharmacist asked me why I hadn't just ordered 100 pills to begin with vs 30 at a time, that we were able to correct the issue by calling obgyn and having them send correct prescription. U/s tech with long hair- this lady is one of the most unpleasant people I have ever met in the industry. I do not recall her name, but I saw her twice early in pregnancy and requested not to see her again. I tried both times to initiate small talk (commenting on her daughter's ballet pictures/ asking about her day) and got nothing. She always had a crappy face on, and was non responsive. Having an u/s done is both exciting and stressful, she did zero to make the experience more pleasant. Please stay away from this place if you are expecting, it is my only suggestion. During a doctor's career, there is no doubt that lives will be lost for x or y reason. I just REALLY feel that my daughter's life could have been spared, if things had been addressed promptly.

I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PRACTICE: They could not perform ultrasounds when I went, requiring visits to the associated OB or even the ER in urgent situations. Spent 4 hours and tons of tears in the ER because heartbeat was not detected due to this lack of in-office capability. All my medical concerns and discomfort during pregnancy were repeatedly dismissed and met with "pregnancy is uncomfortable", basically deal with it. This led to missed and delayed diagnoses, including unmanaged levels and late-detected anemia. Insensitive comments about my weight had me feeling body-shamed during pregnancy. I was once asked if I noticed the beautiful thin pregnant patient in waiting room because she was great! During my quick labor and once she actually acknowledged my pain, asking if I wanted epidural, it was too late. At one point, she yelled at me to shut up. My postpartum appointment was impersonal; she did not remember basic details about me and also asked the gender of my child she had just delivered. It was laughed off as she was so busy, how could she remember them all. The associated OB she must work with to overlook her patients, Dr. Cantero, provided rushed, impersonal care. We received quick ultrasounds without much explanation or even time to enjoy the experience. He left the room so fast once, leaving the door wide open while I was reclined half naked in the chair needing help to get up. Worst of all, he incorrectly gave us our baby's gender ensuring he was "99% sure." I still STRONGLY advise choosing a qualified OB over midwifery, especially if complications or health concerns arise. Nelly lacked empathy (possibly the knowledge) and care to send me high-risk help in my situation. With such great reviews on both providers, I felt the need to leave my honest, detailed experience hoping it helps someone. High ratings don't always mean high quality, especially when those reviews lack detail.

After weeks of fighting with the Marketplace to switch plans, I was told the new one wasn't accepted either. I ended up paying $5,000 out-of-pocket. Communication was another nightmare. The MobileMidwife app constantly malfunctioned, and emails were frequently missed or lost. I had to make a new email address just to keep up, and once I did, the app stopped working altogether. When labor started, I followed their "5-1-1" rule (contractions five minutes apart, lasting one minute) before heading to the center--but my labor moved too quickly. By the time my water broke, I couldn't leave the house. I ended up giving birth at home. Thankfully, the midwife made it just in time to deliver my baby--but I have a friend who also used them, and her neighbor had to deliver her baby because the midwife didn't arrive in time. To make matters worse, my baby's birth certificate listed the wrong address, and I spent weeks emailing back and forth to fix their mistake. This entire experience was stressful, disorganized, and far from the safe, empowering birth I was promised. Avoid this place at all costs.

My husband and I came to TGP just for information on hospital birth and ended up being blessed in so many ways by the employees there. After meeting and becoming informed by Michelle, one of the owners, we decided to hire a doula in order to have assistance during the birth of our first baby. Their doula services come at different prices in order to ensure that everyone from varying financial backgrounds can have access to this vital service. Our doula, Florencia, was a rock for us during the birth. She kept me focused and ensured that I got the birth that I wanted for baby and me. All the doula services come with access to three very informative classes. Take advantage of these and their very knowledgeable team! We learned so much and met other families going through this experience. It was wonderful. I can't say enough and express how grateful I am to these ladies. They made the community real for me when I didn't think it possible. I had arranged to have the two female doctors at the practice I used be available to assist my birth. The day I went into labor, my doctor and her backup became unavailable. Leaving me to their male doctor who had been particularly unkind to me at previous visits. I was a wreck laboring thinking he would be at the delivery. My doula contacted the owners at TGP and they made magic happen. Through their help I was seen and had my baby delivered at the hospital by an amazing midwife. My situation may not be common but their assistance was amazing and made the community of women empowering child birth real to me. At 34 weeks, my doula contacted me via EMAIL to inform me she was moving out of state and no longer able to attend my birth or provide postpartum support. Frantically I tried to find a new doula but at that point there weren't many options and I did not have anytime to build rapport. They gave me an alternate doula who was listed as a level I (I paid for level IV) and then tried to suggest that their website was not up to date. They were also impossible to get in touch with and only communicated by text and email. I ended up not being able to have any doula support at very complicated early induction due to preeclampsia where I ended up having every intervention under the sun short of a c section to make sure my daughter could be safely delivered. My daughter just came home from nicu and I have no postpartum support - my family does not live near me and with the covid resurgence they are not able to come - another reason why I wanted a doula. The kicker is, the Gathering Place won't even give me a full refund after all of this. If having a doula is an important part of your birth plan or postpartum plan, I would highly recommend going elsewhere to ensure you actually have one when your baby actually arrives.
