Mary Palacio-Pike and David Pike founded Crystal Academy in 2009, after their son David was diagnosed with Autism. They had a vision to create a special needs private school, in response to the lack of local public facilities that provide education for children on the spectrum. Within those walls in Crystal Academy lies a village of support where everyday there are acts of love performed. Everybody from the founders, teachers, therapists, admin staff, are supportive, kind, and professional. Every student has an individualized learning plan which is specially tailored to each child's needs. In addition, it is a therapy center offering speech therapy, occupational therapy, music therapy, and ABA. The collaboration between the therapies, is the key to success. I tried a couple of times to tell her what he was saying and she began to silence me by telling me that she can only take answers from the child. To which I advised, I'm only saying exactly what he was trying to tell her. She proceeded to tell me that her volume is all the way up and she hears me clearly, so... It got to the point where my son stop answering her with his words and began using hand signals. During their meet and greet she revealed that she had been a elementary teacher for 8yrs -i cannot understand how. My 9yr old son, who is a people's person with an outdoor personality was very unengaged. She did not capture him in the slightest. She was more interested in using the 45mins they had together to tell him of her trips to Latin America with her family and her love for making music, then to to figure out how to capture my son's attention and keep him engaged. My goodness -I can go on and on about how badly the lesson went. Can you believe this woman began the lesson by yawning and telling my child she was feeling tired from staying up too late the night before RIGHT AFTER my child told her he was feeling EXCITING about starting tutoring. Then she had the audacity to cancel all future appointments with my child at the beginning of their next appointment with NO notice. The experience with this company has been extremely disappointing and unprofessional.

They were attentive to our concerns, and devised tutoring programs that targeted their weaknesses while building upon their strengths. I have never encountered such wonderful staff! The best part is that the staff and tutors are bilingual. I recommended this tutoring center in Doral to my cousin who has two children from Venezuela who are in the process of learning English. The Director is caring and compassionate. While explaining how they would help my children the Director was attentive, and open to any questions or concerns that I had. What I enjoyed the most was the monthly follow-ups by the Director informing me of my children's progress, her visit to my children's school on two separate occasions, and the incredible counseling she gave my son for the ACT! My daughter, who is in high school as well, increased her scores on the FSA as a result of the FSA/Reading program she took at Huntington in Doral. Their programs are very much in line with common core state standards. My son increased his ACT test score by 6 points and was accepted into UF (although he was able to pick and choose from a number of top tier colleges in the nation ). I am so proud of them both!!!
