The Hafenhaus enjoys a light filled location between two canals just south of the elevated motorway…read morewhich crosses Oldenburg. The owners from Emden have invested heavily in their second Hafenhaus Restaurant. It's full glass front and modern decoration with untreated wooden beams makes it a very pleasant place to visit. There are also plenty of tables on the west facing terrace.
The pumpkin cream as a starter was good, but nothing special. As a mains I had plaice, actually two plaice fillets, with potatoes, spinach and champions which were probably from a jar or tin. It was a huge portion, but too salty and the plaice was fried in cheap oils which upset my pallade and digestive tract for the rest of the day ...
The Hafenhaus restaurants and services seemed spotlessly clean and the staff in the semi-open kitchen appeared professional.
Two courses with softdrinks came to 24 Euros per head. In Oldenburg you can get better food options on that budget.
Note: The Hafenhaus restaurant serves caffè latte with UHT milk, a sin for which I always subtract one star in the rating.
