It is served covered in a coconut cream and I don't know that I have any words in my vocab suitably descriptive. Shrimp dumplings specially fried after steaming as a request from my 5yr old, box ticked. My 2yr old joined in with everything else, I had the chicken Panang with coconut rice and my wife and MIL had Laksa. Great flavour, great portions and satisfied bellies. My son had a second helping of dumplings to top it off from round 1, a little pricey but worth the cost as another local venue charges 30% more and it is a tourist trap town after all. We look forward to going back.

Well, that was certainly worth it because even though I would consider it to be hugely authentic, it was still pretty cool as a place to grab something to eat, and it was pretty cheap as well. I have to admit that this place wasn't bad at all.

On our last night I thought it would be nice to go to a high-end restaurant. I referred to it as Nobu (what a mistake). We ordered four drinks, when they brought them two were wrong ( this set the tone for the evening). Then we ordered four dinners. Two of the dinners came while my daughter and I sat without food for 20 minutes nobody came to check on us. We never saw a waitress the whole time. When I finally got someone's attention and mentioned it, the manager said he would put the order in. my son and wife have already finished dinner and I wasn't about to sit there and wait for them to prepare our 2 dinners. When he brought the bill, no comp no apology no nothing. Not what I was expecting on our last night in Australia. Definitely not what I expected from an Aussie. I thought this was a good place but obviously it's just a tourist trap. Avoid at all costs. There's plenty of great places in Byron bay that are worthy of your time. The waitstaff seemed to be hired recently and the manger was completely miss the whole evening and had no clue how deal with his incompetence. Completely disappointed in this place.

We did not have a booking so understood, no table available, so we were seated at the sushi counter.. terribly uncomfortable. Once seated we were completely ignored by the waitress as the evening rush started. Now normally I'm not one to complain about such things but our food was okay, nothing wow, just okay- had chicken karaage, miso, edamame, and ramen. Ordered sushi as well. We enjoyed most of it but basic things such as soy and pickled ginger was not provided. We had to ask for it several times. No dipping bowels provided either, again we had to ask for these .. several times. Given that we had spent a considerable amount of money here one would expect the basics to be done right. Not asking too much I think. Basically, this place has gained a popular reputation and the waitstaff treated us as if they were doing us a favour or something. Snooty and presumptuous at the very least. I will NOT be coming back here anytime soon! Try it at your own risk.. if you want to be treated badly, or looked down upon.
