I am pretty floored about the amount of bad reviews of this place. Did I just catch it on a good day? I was actually apprehensive to coming here because of all the reviews on here and Google. The only reason I did, is because it was within walking distance, and I couldn't get an Uber to the sports bar in town. They don't have Uber's or taxis here. But I'm glad I came in and ate. Yes it is true, they could do a little bit more cleaning. All in all it wasn't too bad. I do think they should hire a commercial cleaning service though. I sat at the bar, and I was going to try to eat normal, but not today. So I asked them if they could make me a jalapeno margarita, and they did! My server, pulled another server from the back room to make it for me. They don't normally offer them. So that was a nice gesture and started my visit off right. Typical Mexican restaurant decorum, playing Mexican music. I did find it peculiar that they were playing infomercials on all of the TVs hahaha! During the duration of my visit, a lot of local families we're frequenting this establishment, so it can't be all that bad like everyone says. My server was super nice, attentive, checked on me regularly, and was even conversational. A couple other people that work there also acknowledged me which was nice. I ordered the Mojarra (fried Tilapia) a la Diabla. Before my main dish came out, my rice and beans and avocado salad on served to me on a super hot plate. Asked for a bottle of tapatio, and it was go time. My main course came out shortly after. Man all of my food was straight from the stove / oven to my face. Hot, steaming, fresh. I had plenty of shrimp on top of my tilapia, and the sauce was really good. I make that style of fish at home, so I might try making "a la diabla" at home next time. They also have truck parking, for us that keep America moving. I gambled between the two places I wanted to go to today, and since I couldn't make it to the latter, I made it here, so I consider it a win. I'm never in this area, but if I am, I know where I'll be parking and eating next time. I included the entire menu, because from what I understand it's been updated. Oh, I forgot to tell you what I paid for everything. I had a 32 oz custom margarita, two vodka and sodas, plus my food, and my bill was just over $42. I've spent twice as much at other places across the country, for half of what I got today. Mi Pueblo is our favorite restaurant in southeast Iowa. The food is fantastic, the margs are great, and the service is always excellent. I cannot imagine how it has such a low rating, we have gone there at least once a week for years and we have never had a bad experience. read more

We had a group of 10 and the waiter got of our food and drinks right and the wait time was about 15 minutes so really good for 10 people that got 10 meals so yes I would definitely recommend this place great food and great service read more

Not exactly sure what all the complaints are about. Food was top notch I got the texas fajita with spicy salsa. 16.25 plus extra for salsa and extra tortillas. Just an extra 3.50 for both pretty reasonable. Eddie was my guy and it was probably some of the best fajitas I've had. I do recommend eating in, portions are always bigger because wait staff are working for tips. Just a warning the spicy salsa is super hot!! This is a really good Mexican restaurant. I'm from Burlington, and I think this location is much better. It is larger and has a nicer appearance in general. The fajitas are awesome. I swear the vegetarian fajitas come with like a pound of yummy grilled veggies. Wish they had made-from-scratch tortillas but it seems no place in Iowa does... Our waiter was good but he didn't check on us and we had to wait a little while to get our check. Overall, though, I was pleased. Stop by if you're in Mount Pleasant. read more

I ordered carry out and had a margarita while I waited. As I sat there enjoying the margarita I saw a few sizzling dishes heaped up and steam rolling past me making me hungry. I got my shrimp fajitas and headed across the lot to my hotel. I opened my dinner and was kinda disappointed. The serving size seemed to be about half what I saw others getting. While it was delicious I was pretty disappointed by the amount in my takeout. Other places I've eaten usually serve double the amount. And for spending $38 bucks with a tip it was a let down. We pulled up at 815- we got seated and were talking to a friend that we hadn't seen in a while and one guy walks up to our table and tells us that they are closed and they won't be serving us. They are shutting the kitchen down to clean. so I said Ok, was finishing up our conversation with our friend that was standing at our table and the guy at the bar walked over and said sorry we are only serving one more person and they are getting ready to order now- but we can't serve you. This is a local favorite and given the quality of their food, it's not hard to see why. It has a very casual, almost bar and grill feel, with some TV's spread around the building so you can watch sports while you wait for your food. The service is usually pretty top-notch in my opinion. I was with a friend this time, and the waiter was prompt and showed a great balance in asking us how the food was and letting my friend and I converse without interruption. I ordered the regular fajitas, and they were delicious! The guacamole salad, beans, and rice were served to me several minutes before the rest of my dish came in, with the chicken and peppers sizzling on the plate they rested on. My only issue with the food was that the waiter pulled the foil wrapped tortillas out of his front half-apron/pocket thing, and it was just a little strange. Also, from where we were sitting, I could see that the carpet needed to be vacuumed and it was starting to wrinkle up in the middle of the floor. I attended this place many times throughout my undergraduate life from 2014-2018. I took many of my friends, family, and dates here, which should say a lot about it. I always enjoyed their lava cake and their delicious steak fajitas! On this particular day, I only had the steak fajita. I went there with a friend and the waiting time was about 5 minutes even though the place was packed. We were seated on the other side of the restaurant. The waiter accommodated us with a efficient and effective service. We were able to receive our food and drinks in a short amount of time. One thing that both my friend and I did not appreciate was the waiter pulling out the foiled wrapped tortillas out of his apron pocket. It was not even heated. Hopefully they change this process and improve the quality of their tortillas. My friend and I went there to check on their wifi because we wanted to see if we can hold a fantasy football draft party there. Unfortunately, their wifi was just not gonna work. I was staying at the hotel next door and was hungry so I decided to eat here. I first checked the reviews out of curiosity and was alittle nervous but wanted to give this place a chance. And let me tell you it was well worth it. The food was fantastic! Very tasty! I had the Pollo Loco, and my husband had the Fajita Quesadilla with Shrimp. The side of rice they serve on the side was legendary.The margaritas however were alittle suspicious but still very yummy. Just be warned if you are looking for an authentic margarita you will be disappointed. This one, while still tasty, was not like any other margarita I've had. It was the color of Mountain Dew and tasted like artificial lime but I say that as a compliment. It wasn't what I was expecting but it served its purpose which was to make me tipsy LOL. After a failed attempt at La Chiva Loka in Riverside Iowa, this place is getting high praise. One they are short staffed but still have great service. Especially Jose, our server. Their salsa is the real deal! The cheese sauce could use a little more spice to it, just a couple dashes of habanero sauce should do it. I am the one who gave the one star review to LA chiva loka in Riverside Iowa They use chips from the store and Pace Salsa in Riverside Iowa. Mi Pueblo in Mt Pleasant Iowa doesn't. If there was a choice for zero stars, I would put that! My boyfriend and I have been here many times. Each time we have been there, THE SERVICE WAS HORRIBLE! We got seated and waited for them to ask for drinks 15 minutes after we were seated. We were very close to walking out. Our food was delicious, but I ordered fries with my quesadilla, never got them. Very disappointed. Also my boyfriend asked for a box by one waiter, never got it. Finally had to ask someone else to get it for him, they got it for him right away. Stopped in this past Sunday evening while staying up the street at Wyndam. Let's just say the people of Mt. Pleasant deserve much better. While the food was decent, the service was poort o non existant. It was not crowded and our party of eight was seated in the back-40 all by our selves. The chips kid brought us chips after bening seated over five minutes. When we asked for hot-salsa, it never arrived. Chip refilles were done by our selves as the salsa fridge was right there so we literally helped ourselves to the salsa when we ran out given nobody was there to help us. When the food came, I was short pico de gallo which a specifically asked for twice. Not sure if the staff found themselvesmore interested in their Saturday night previous or if they just didn't care. You know, this place is so hit or miss that its hard to give an accurate rating. I go fairly often and sometimes it is phenomenal. The margaritas will taste great, chips and salsa are good and fresh and the dinner is great and the food will come out in no time. Then, the next time you go...the server will be not so great, the food will take forever and you will get gut rut from the bad margaritas. My boyfriend and I used to go for a pitcher of margaritas in the summer. We went one and the server was mad at us for just ordering the margaritas...while we sat at the bar, mind you, its not like we were taking a booth, that they spiked our salsa with TONS of hot sauce and laughed at us while we commented how hot it was. LAME BALLS with a sick of dick-ish. Some pointers for the place....go on Wednesdays for their $1.99 margaritas. Get their fajitas for two. They are around $20 and you can get a few meals out of them. Overall, don't expect it to be good, because you've got a 50/50 shot of that. read more

Haven't been in a couple months... Needless to say, it used to be good. Margarita was so bad that we couldn't even drink it, sent it back. Gnats kept flying around our table that we had to keep swooshing them away. As we were sitting eating our food, two employees went outside and we witnessed them bringing in boxes of what appeared to be meat from their car. One box was left on the bare ground of the parking lot and sat for several minutes before they came and got it. Quality of food has definitely gone down hill. The waiter messed up two of our meals and charged our 6 year old for an adult meal. While we were there we watched another couple walk out on their meal. When I explained to the waiter our concerns he sent us to the front. At the front the cashier translated to the "manager" ( who we were informed actually lives in Washington by the " manager" that required a translator) he stated he could not rectify the over charge because he was not in charge. Boyfriend and I stopped here for dinner on our way to Missouri. The place is huge and has a nice ambiance. Boyfriend ordered a margarita and it came out really fast! My orange soda was a little flat/had an off taste. The chips and salsa were really good; the salsa wasn't too sweet or too spicy. It just had plenty of flavor and fresh cilantro (yum!). Our server was a little spotty. Our meals took a really long time (which he blamed on "problems in the kitchen"...even though we could see the kitchen and no mad chaos was going on, nor was the place overly busy), and then he forgot the tortillas for the meal. He also never stopped back about chips and salsa or more drinks until after we got our food, and then left any/all dirty plates sitting on the table. I didn't have much of an appetite when we stopped (not enough to finish a whole meal anyway) so I ordered off of the ala carte menu. Mistake. Their soft shell taco is really bad. Just a watery, beefy mess. On the other hand, Boyfriend loved his meal; said it was one of the best Mexican meals he'd ever had. Lucky me got a taste and yes, I can definitely say that the Pollo con Chorizo is a GREAT option from Mi Pueblo Real. Another table by us said they come here 3-4 times per week and love everything, so I must have totally ordered the wrong thing. Before we left, I stopped into the ladies' room and someone was talking super loud in Spanish on their cell phone in a stall. When I was washing my hands, an employee came out of that stall and followed me straight out the door...WITHOUT WASHING HER HANDS. For the love of God man! That is just nasty. I usually am very pleased with the service here at Mi Pueblo. It is great food, and I usually get served very quickly. Tonight was not the case. We came in and were not seated for 15 minutes. There were a few couples behind us, one being a friend of one of the servers. They came in about 7 minutes after us, and their friend seated them before us. Ate there Sunday and again today, two days later, for dinner. Fish tacos were good; second time I asked for less salt and it was perfect. Also had enchilada with spinach, which was a good way to get some dark green veggies. Likewise the big fat chile relleno which was a little spicy, filled with creamy cheese and topped with white sauce. The veggie fajita was a heaping mound of broccoli, cauliflower, carrot, peppers, onion, yellow and green zucchini. The quality the food at Mi Pueblo Real has steadily gone downhill over the past year. Tried it for what's probably the last time this week, and ordered fiesta enchiladas as a benchmark. Creating a proper enchilada takes a good bit more than wrapping some contents in an uncooked corn tortilla, drizzling a small amount of mole sauce on it (to the point that most of the tortilla remained uncovered) and then topping that off with some shredded cheese (unmelted) and lettuce. You'd honestly be better off going across the street to Wal-Mart, picking up a couple of Amy's frozen enchiladas, and sticking them in the microwave. The Pina Colada was strong. A decent place to drink if you're staying at one of the nearby hotels, otherwise pass on by. read more
