Love Mi Pueblo and the selection of baked goods and fresh tortillas and meats it has to offer. For some reason everyone stares at me not sure if it's because I am not Latin / Hispanic. I found the staff is nicer and more receptive to you if you at least try to speak Spanish so an hola and gracias goes a long way I was always intimidated to try the food court because of all the stares I get but I fjnally found the courage too. The buffet is good but not great, however what a fantastic bang for your buck, $13 for all you can eat!

I saw Mi Pueblo Supermarket as I was leaving dinner and decided to check it out. After wandering the aisles, at least for me, I was not a big fan. I just found the store's offerings a bit weak. While nothing stood out singularly, as a whole, it was just a let down.

Mi Pueblo es muy excelente. This place is a Latin American cultural experience. If you enjoy exploring other cultures than this place is a must stop. A true SUPER market that is spacious and clean. Here's a scavenger hunt list of unique items to search for: Tamarind slushie Pickled pork rinds Mexican street corn Nopoles (cactus) Star-shaped pinatas Habanaro peppers Tortillas machine Giant cookies Cow head Taco toppings bar Churos Mexican Coca-Cola Chorizo

I absolutely love the visit to stores like this. It is a true cultural experience that I have enjoyed coming to many times in the past. But I guess I just haven't written a review for it yet. My favorite part of international stores like this: the meat section. I always feel like there are so many options that I have not explored. They did not have it on this visit, but the last time I was here, they had whole pig heads. And as a person with deep roots in south Louisiana, I love a good head cheese (not that I would make it myself). But having that option is something out of the ordinary in Birmingham. I truly enjoy exploring the multitude of products that I didn't even know existed. And as a food person, it makes me want to educate myself more on the things I am missing out on. I am not a huge sweets person. But the panaderia is so extensive and really looks quite tasty. When we lived over this way, I would come and get jalapenos for recipes because they had the most extensive selection. This allowed me to pick the best ones I could find. But the entire produce section is very well supplied in general. I highly recommend checking it out! I have yet to eat in the restaurant in the back. But it is on my list of things to do. Great store with very friendly people. If you haven't been, I hope you will soon!

Wonderful fresh corn tortillas. Two pounds for less than $3. Found everything I needed for low prices for birria tacos. Love the meat counter as it's the only place I can find goat and oxtail.

I'm so into Mi Pueblo that it's just ridiculous. Yes, it's just a grocery store but it's FULL of ingredients that you just can't find anywhere else. Where else can you get a bag of cactus or a whole cow's head? AN ENTIRE COW'S HEAD!!! I love going in and checking out the produce. It's super fresh and they have some of the best prices in town, no sale needed. I also like to look over the spices and see what I can use and stop by the meat department for some fresh chorizo or round pork. I also like to grab a bunch of grapefruit sodas and a bag or two of their tortilla chips. It's all just so good! Although I've never been to either they have a sweets counter upfront and a restaurant in the back with a hot bar. They also have a very cool bakery that charges you by the lb for food. It's wild to see all of their treats spread throughout the cupboards in the wall.

Mi Pueblo is another one of the many great international options on Green Springs. The supermarket is stocked with authentic Latin items representing an array of countries from Mexico to Central America. Be sure to walk up the bakery aisle and see the cookies, breads, muffins, and desserts. The meat department offers cuts and seafood not found at the nearby Publix or Walmart. The real reason to come by Mi Pueblo is the restaurant in the back of the market. I had 5 tacos for less than $10. The restaurant has a salsa bar with fresh cilantro, pico de gallo, and a variety of salsas for your food. You can also order the buffet, with many hot options to choose from. Tucked away next to the old K-Mart on Green Springs it's easy to see that many people in Birmingham are yet to discover the gem of Mi Pueblo.

Fried whole fish, rice, beans, and side salad in the cafe in the back of Mi Pueblo

The place is huge, clean, and well stocked. I went here today with a Caribbean island native who is a good friend. I was impressed by the store offerings, the size, and and cleanliness. It is obviously targeted at a Latino clientele and Spanish is the first language here. But I am a white guy not fluent in Spanish and I felt comfortable and everyone was nice. There were non-Latino locals buying there groceries while there and prices on ordinary items an Alabamian would buy at any grocery store seemed average and comparable. Some of the meats and fish seemed prices better. While there my friend and I ate lunch in the cafe portion in the back- fried whole fish with Mexican beans and a little side salad. It was very good and I'll go back for it again. See photo.

Everything was flavorful and delicious. Loved the hot and sour soup, jalapeño beef and Mongolian beef. The tofu noodles had an amazing texture. The eggplant in garlic sauce was surprisingly delicious to me as a meat lover and was actually one of my favorite dishes.

I will most definitely try this place again !!…read more They had many dishes right up our alley not americanized. So if you want boring food this place is NOT for you. We got so many things to start with Coconut water rice cake. Yes it does have the consistency of a sponge cake. It was good! I also got some Panda red bean buns. Cute and also good! For drinks: Sake, Taro bubble milk tea, and a Thai milk tea. We tried Winter Melon and clam soup For my entree I got Chicken with Lotus root which I enjoyed, My husband got crispy intestine . (My husband said he has never had it done that well-clean taste ) I tried it and it was ok. My son got the Szechuan style sautéed brisket and he ate it up ! To go yep we got sautéed pork belly and eggplant, pork, & basil . Both were also good. The waiter worked his bum off and we gave him a good tip. The only complaint were the young boys working up front who weren't friendly and acted like working was killing them. Why I didn't give you a 5! Otherwise you would have deserved it !!! All the food was delicious! Now on to the market - I like this better than the hometown market why they have many things I haven't seen including Jin noodles I have been looking everywhere for!!!! We bought many things to try including cucumber, orange, and what I thought was Mango potato chips. Nope it was abalone ! Not so good but the orange was good Of course Jin noodles , tiramisu mochi, banana milk rice snacks(yum) , tamarind drink, orange pepper spice, and chili crisp Our cashier though was joyless . Would I go back to both ? Yes I would!!

Who would've thought the semi-clad Vulcan oversees a stronghold of Eastern Orthodoxy?…read more Mediterranean-food lovers and xenophiles alike rejoice each fall, with this event coming right on the heels of Birmingham's Greek Food Festival. Baked chicken, falafel, stuffed grape leaves, and zalabieh are just some of the highlights, but don't forget the baklawa or, more deliciously, the date-filled m-a-m-o-u-l...! My favorite plate is the Nile, featuring kibbee, spinach pie, grape leaves, rice, spicy green beans, Arabic salad, and humos. And you can order MORE as sides! Beware...they sell out of zalabieh early every year. A narrated church tour elucidates a liturgy blending the essence of Jerusalem, Damascus, and Antioch, and you can pick up a censer at the market to take the "atmosphere" home with you. Highly recommended, family-friendly event, with food to die, or kill, for. You'll rock on Friday and Saturday night to Amin Sultan's crazy beat, or something's wrong with you! I'm still giving them four stars, even though I miss the stuffed squash! From their website menu, for those not in the know: KIBBEE: Finely ground very lean beef, mixed with cracked wheat, onions, pine nuts, spices, brushed with butter and baked to perfection. ROLLED GRAPE LEAVES: Ground chuck mixed with rice and spices, rolled in grape leaves and cooked in a water & lemon juice mixture until tender. BAKED CHICKEN: Half chickens marinated in lemon juice and butter, seasoned with a blend of spices, oregano, and baked to a moist golden brown. SPINACH PIE: Spinach, onions, lemon juice, olive oil, and spices wrapped in fresh yeast dough in the shape of a triangle and baked. MEAT PIE: Browned ground beef, onions, spices and cream cheese mixed an wrapped in fresh yeast dough in the shape of a triangle and baked. FALAFEL: Ground chick peas, onions, spices, parsley and cumin rolled into a ball and deep fried. GREEN BEANS: Italian beans simmered with crushed tomatoes, butter, spices, onions and garlic. ZALABIEH: Yeast dough made with a blend of anise, mahalab and sugar, deep fried, dipped piping hot into a special syrup and topped with powdered sugar. Simply delicious! Mine Fave Entree (and I always "request"): THE NILE $16.00 ONE HALF POUND BAKED KIBBEE, SPINACH PIE, 3 ROLLED GRAPE LEAVES, RICE, GREEN BEANS, ARABIC SALAD, AND BREAD. (HUMOS ON REQUEST)
