After…read moremonths of working with a builder that could not provide a truly "customized" home, I was in search for a custom home builder. I reached out to Hagen Homes on a referral from a previous client of theirs. From the initial sales contact with Josh, to the personalized house plans with the architect Amanda, and the selections process with Jackie, the team has met all of my high expectations! During every stage of the building process, I have felt included in all decisions making the "what could be stressful" home building experience pleasurable and exciting! The owner Josh Hagen prepared me for every step of the building process so that I was aware of expectations and prepared for next steps and decisions I needed to make. The architect and designer Amanda Morrow paid attention to all the details I was looking for and her plan was nearly perfect from the beginning. Because of her attention to detail, we only needed small tweaks from her original design. The selections professional Jackie Becker spent hours with me in person and through email and phone calls supporting me in all of my selections. She communicated with me regularly which made the process personable. She has impressive detail to attention and communicates well. Everyone at Hagen Homes has gone above and beyond in creating my dream home! If you are looking for a truly "customized" home from beginning to end, I cannot recommend Hagen Homes enough! Thanks Josh, Jackie and Amanda for being a part of this experience! Your work is truly showcased in my home.

We started the project for building a new house after meeting right after 4th July 2021. Everything…read morewas going well for few weeks. Then we were introduced to the Designer/Architect (AM; from Lake Country Design Studio LLC)for home design. We got the first model after a month. And then everything went downhill. Given that Miss. AM had family issues but everything kept dragging on. We got the first design completed in Sept/Oct' 2021. After requesting for few changes, the timeline kept increasing. In short we got some design in Dec'21 which was not even close to what we wanted as final. We got the bill for the design process right away too. Given that we were promised that it will be rolled into the building cost of the house, we were informed that, it has to be paid right away. I don't think it takes past 5 months to come up with some design of a house, with preliminary costing. The design cost for 3300 sq-ft home was past $8000. Requesting to increase a home by 1 foot on each side took another month; just to see the change on a print. In short, our experience with Hagen homes was horrible. I think we saw the warning posted sooner in the project, than later. Please beware of the timeline and costing. Most of the other builders we talked to would make a plan anywhere from $1500~$3500. Also, they would stick to the promised timeline not just keep procrastinating it. If there is an issue, let the customer know, and he can find another architect or vendor rather than keep delaying the project. Repeated request to accelerate the project, with Josh, did not go anywhere. Any questions for us from Hagen homes was answered within 2 days or less. If there main business is to keep the customer hanging with unknown and increasing timeline, they do very well with it. I would think harder to start a project with them or give other builder a chance than start anything with them. Its not worth it.

Joe and his guys absolutely ROCK! We were in the market to have our old and cracked tub replaced…read more We started off by contacting some of the places that are quick to pop up when you start googling search terms like "tub replacement". Quotes were so far out in left field that we thought we were just going to have to deal with the garbage, cracked tub we had or enlist some friends and hopefully pool together enough know-how to do it ourselves. Then, one night while in Menards, we just happened to see Joe's business as one of the recommended installers over by the plumbing/tub area. Boy, are we happy we did! For starters, Joe treats you like family. He listens to you, pays attention to what you can and can't afford and talks to you like a regular person. He communicates with you every step of the way and lets you know if something is changing. In the end, we basically wound up with a whole bathroom remodel for about the same (if not less) than what the other companies were quoting for JUST a tub replacement. Joe only uses the best of the best when he brings people in to your home to perform services. The flexibility and respect won't be soon forgotten. So many contractors out there talk to people as if they're just complete idiots. Joe educates, suggests and works to make you comfortable and confident in what you're doing. I kid you not, I felt like I was dealing with a family member throughout the entirety of the project. And let's not forget speed! Joe knew that we have a small 3 bedroom, 1 bathroom house and that we couldn't be without a working bathroom for days on end. He made sure that the amount of time without vital bathroom elements was kept to an absolute minimum. There's a reason why people like Joe have success in business for several decades like he has -- because they take pride in their work and base everything they do on honesty and integrity. For as long as he's in business, he'll be the first call we make when a project at our home crops up.

Weather was an issue but what was more of an issue was that he worked alone and talked on his phone more than he seemed to work. Many people were commenting on how slow he was working. The rot under the siding was fixed well, the stairs were done in the back well, stairs in front my husband felt the support was suspect (means 4x4s were cut short - he made up some excuse that this was his intent) and door window was damaged and cracked. We have tried to contact him on multiple occasions, even going so far as forgetting all the support issues but wanted our door window repaired or replaced. He has ghosted us!! This is unacceptable. We paid him to do a job and didn't hold back any money (our mistake - now he has no reason to call us back). So now our only option is to hire a lawyer to get our door window repaired or replaced because at this point that's all we care about. While they were not the least expensive, I selected them after reviewing the job with Christo, the owner. He was very knowledgeable and was straight forward regarding the extent of possible issues that may be uncover when the shingles are removed from such an older building (1929). Christo has an extensive portfolio of quality materials to choose from and his suggestions really helped steer me towards the best possible outcome. The work began very shortly after the paperwork was completed and even after finding that the original roof had 3 layers of failed shingles in some areas, had extensive wood rot at the decking, fascia and soffit areas, needed replacement roof ventilation and also required additional work to remove an old school TV antenna... the roof was completed beautifully and ahead of schedule! Communication was on-going and professional throughout the entire job. The clean up was meticulous and complete. Gutters and downspouts were installed a few days later and the house really looks great! I can 100% recommend 1st Choice Roofing... and have already passed their contact information on to both family and friends.
