It's been almost 2 months since the incident happened because we wanted to give ourselves time to…read more"cool off" before writing this. So here goes: Ann Johnsrud DESIGN is owned by Ann Johnsrud. Ann, being recommended by a fellow resident in the Melbourne community of Indian River Colony Club, we thought we had a good interior decorator. Well, while it started out OK it did not end well; in fact, it got ugly. Let us explain. We initially contacted Ms. Johnsrud in October 2018 after moving into a new home. We asked her to help us with selecting fabric for draperies and 2 chairs in our den. The original drapery fabric she recommended was not available because she did not do her homework; one would have thought a good interior designer would have researched the fabric availability before suggesting it to the client; well she didn't. So we started all over again. She used an upholster in Cocoa Beach, FL to reupholster the 2 chairs. When the chairs came back the seat cushions and back of the chairs were "wrinkled and waffled". When we questioned Ann on this is when her true personality came out. Initially Ann put us off to deal directly with the upholster when in fact we paid Ann directly for the chairs. We questioned her on why we were being sent to the upholster rather than dealing through her. It was then when she reengaged to help us resolve the problem. Ann and the upholster both agreed that the fabric was wrinkled and waffled but they became defensive and refused to reupholster the chairs stating that it must be the new fabric (the very same fabric recommended by Ann), and they were not responsible. However, the ironic thing was the cushions were not wrinkled or waffled with the original fabric. The upholster charged $100.00 to replace the material in the seat cushions which Ms. Johnsrud refused to cover. This was after paying her $3,043.08 for the drapes and chair reupholstering. Now let us back up and explain why Ann realy refused to pay for the seat cushions. When we first had Ann out to the house, we mentioned we were thinking also about replacing the draperies in the dining room and sun room in the future but only after the other work was completed. All along we thought Ann was expensive, but we decided to go with her as we are a believer in the old saying "you get what you pay for" except in this case. In the meantime, while waiting for Ann and the upholsters to come back and inspect the chairs we were talking to one of our friends who used another upholstery company, so we decided to have them come out and get a price on the other draperies. It was unbelievable how much cheaper this company was than Johnsrud DESIGN. When Ann returned to our home in February 2019 to look at the chairs we told her we would not be having her do the draperies in the dining or sun rooms. At that very moment you could see a change in her demeanor and attitude. Ann actually said something like this: Had you contracted me to do the other draperies I might have covered the cost of the chairs but now I will not, or words to that affect. We went on to pay the $100.00 for the chairs and had the other upholstery company make the draperies for the dining room at a fraction of the cost of what Johnsrud DESIGN had charged for the den draperies. We would never use Johnsrud DESIGN or recommend her to any one we know. Don't be fooled by the initial pleasant attitude; she can be quite the opposite. Can you believe any business would not cover the $100.00 to make things right after spending over $3,000.00? Who knows, had she done the right thing she might have gotten the job for the dinning room draperies. Tom and Nancy
