Finally after many attempts I have found the holy grail, a Mexican restaurant in Brazil that tastes…read moreMexican. The meat was seasoned the right way the guacamole had the right kick to it, the Tostito things were excellent. The service was great. I urge you all to go try this place, I need it to stay in business, please don't tell them to Brazilianize it. Spicy is good, spicy is authentic. Too many places corrupt great products by making them too Brazilian. Take the hot wings at outback. The hottest setting they have barely registers on a scale. They would be kids wings at BWW! Keep up the great work La Lupitta and I will keep coming back (every time I am in SP - so every 2-3 weeks)

Had dinner at a Mexican place called La Lupita a couple of blocks up Lorena from the hotel. Ordered…read morethe tortillas with steak for an entree. They were playing Billy Idol's Rebel Yell. I spent the first 10 minutes trying to figure out the connection to Mexico, or Mexican food. Failed. Soon after came the Oils Beds are Burning. Same result. By the time my meal arrived the Beatles Back in the USSR was playing so I stopped looking for connections and ordered a Caipirinha. Don't know who put the mix tape together, but I like them. The tortillas were really good. Five pieces of crispy tostada covered in diced steak, guacamole, sour cream, fried onions and tomato. Very generous serve for an entree and this was enough to satisfy my appetite so I never got around to ordering a main. Ordered a nice tequila instead to finish and a shot of sangrita to go with it. I hadn't noticed they had a cocktail on the menu with the same name but luckily the waiter checked with me if this was what I wanted. I told him no, and gave him my preferred recipe; tomato juice, Tabasco and pepper which was delivered to my table in a shot glass as requested. Really good, authentic Mex at a reasonable price. And they also make a mean Caipirinha.

On Augusta, you'll find Taqueria La Sabrosa, which is a Mexican-themed fast-food restaurant. As…read moreI've never spent any time in Mexico, I can't tell you just how authentic their Mexican food is, but I can say from personal experience that their food is pretty good. They have a straightforward and interesting way to explain how to their food is ordered. As you enter, there's a huge sign that gives step-by-step instructions - a nice touch. The wall menu lists appetizers, burritos tacos, and several other items, all served on plates (not Taco-Bell style). We had four different dishes, and they were all very good. This is food that should be eaten with your hands, so beware: Taqueria La Sabrosa doesn't provide knives and forks. Some people might find this strange, but it works for me :-) If you'd like a libation with your meal, they have bottled beer, Heineken on tap, and various tequila drinks. The staff is very friendly and informal; they're always happy to explain the dishes on the menu.

What did I eat? 1 serving of taco de carne adobada: 2 tiny tacos de carne adobada with some pineapples, all pastor style. 1 cheese enchilada: the size of a small corn tortilla in the US but even smaller, with some cheese and topped with guac. 1 agua de tamarindo. Spent almost R$ 40 and left hungry! Plus, parking around that hood is hard to find. Parking $30 + lunch $40, $70 total, it's far and beyond civilization but next time I crave Mexican food, I will have to drive. Coming back here to La Sabrosa? Probably not...
