The restaurant is in a corner of the building and it isn't very easy to find - it's not visible from the street. The safest way to find this place is to ask someone where it is :-) We began our meal with their fresh corn soup. It's quite good - garnished with fresh watercress and very creamy. We followed that with the sliced sirloin tacos. These don't resemble fast-food variety tacos at all; they're quite delicately seasoned and totally delicious. My friend had the fresh pasta. It was stuffed with corn, and served with a spinach sauce and creamy zucchini - a creative and completely delicious dish! Our cocktails weren't all that wonderful, but they were strong and arrived quickly; next time, I think I'll stick to beer, which is my usual preference with Mexican food anyway :-) The service was efficient and quick, and the ambiance was trendy and casual. All in all, our lunch experience was exceptional, and I heartily recommend La Central to anyone who happens to be in downtown Sao Paulo and loves good Mexican food.

As…read moreI've never spent any time in Mexico, I can't tell you just how authentic their Mexican food is, but I can say from personal experience that their food is pretty good. They have a straightforward and interesting way to explain how to their food is ordered. As you enter, there's a huge sign that gives step-by-step instructions - a nice touch. The wall menu lists appetizers, burritos tacos, and several other items, all served on plates (not Taco-Bell style). We had four different dishes, and they were all very good. This is food that should be eaten with your hands, so beware: Taqueria La Sabrosa doesn't provide knives and forks. Some people might find this strange, but it works for me :-) If you'd like a libation with your meal, they have bottled beer, Heineken on tap, and various tequila drinks. The staff is very friendly and informal; they're always happy to explain the dishes on the menu.

What did I eat? 1 serving of taco de carne adobada: 2 tiny tacos de carne adobada with some pineapples, all pastor style. 1 cheese enchilada: the size of a small corn tortilla in the US but even smaller, with some cheese and topped with guac. 1 agua de tamarindo. Spent almost R$ 40 and left hungry! Plus, parking around that hood is hard to find. Parking $30 + lunch $40, $70 total, it's far and beyond civilization but next time I crave Mexican food, I will have to drive. Coming back here to La Sabrosa? Probably not...
