We worked with Metro for the renovation of our entire first floor, which included the kitchen, bathroom, and living room. The project included things like new flooring, cabinetry, appliances, furniture, painting, lighting, etc. We enjoyed working with our designer Sam and the build team led by Tony. We got our dream kitchen ahead of schedule and on target budget! We couldn't be happier with the result. It was incredibly easy to work with the team end-to-end, from building the designs from scratch through project execution. The design process allowed us to put all of our stylistic preferences while ensuring an overall cohesive look. The project management was seamless, with perfect communication between the Metro team, the contractors they found and us. Each week we got an update on the project status with photos. The team was flexible meeting our needs, such as helping us ensure our cabinets could get donated to The Salvation Army. The only caveat I'd give is that while the total cost matched the projected budget, that number was quite high both in absolute terms and in relation to the initial budget we had targeted. That's not a surprise for a kitchen renovation, but just note that there's huge costs not only costs for materials and labor but also appliances and a rental if you choose to move out. If sticking to a certain number is critical to you, make sure to keep reiterating that throughout the design process and maybe even try to get mid-process estimates to avoid sticker shock. read more

Metro Design Build recently completed the gut remodel of our full bathroom and powder room and we couldn't be happier with the final result. The owners Heather and Tony were very involved throughout the entire process, which is one benefit of going with a boutique firm. Our designer Kate did an amazing job bringing our dreams to life with her gorgeous design plan. Being working professionals, my husband and I didn't have time to micromanage a job site and we didn't need to worry about that with Josh as the construction project manager. He put us at ease that everything was moving along as planned and provided frequent updates and constant communication throughout the process. The quality of their workmanship and attention to detail is top notch, I have never seen such perfectly laid tiles. When I initially spoke with Tony, I told him that we wanted our bathrooms to be something special, with a unique style and focus on design and craftsmanship - not just something I could pick out myself from a big box store. Josh, by the way, is a gem--always in communication, consistently able to deliver on how/when things would happen, and on site regularly. The communication was regular and excellent. The workmanship was superb. If something went awry, which it does in this type of thing on occasion, it was taken care of promptly. We felt valued as customers, clients, and as people. We had a great experience with Tony and Heather on our recent remodel. Heather did a great job taking my scatterbrained ideas and turning them into a beautiful kitchen and bathroom design. When the project cost started to get outside our budget, they came back with ideas to make everything work. They really seem to care about making sure their clients are happy. Tony initially responded to my plea on a neighborhood group after I was let down by another contractor AFTER having done the demolition! He happily took on my project at short notice, was endlessly helpful with design ideas, cheerfully put up with my indecision and changes-of-mind, worked seamlessly with sub-contractors, and encouraged me in making choices that worked beautifully. The only reason I am writing this review is to help others not have to go through this experience. The remodel of our kitchen and TV area began 8/31/21 and as of today 5/5/22 it still is not done. Tony, the owner, called my wife "passage aggressive" because of our repeated request to fix a plethora of mistakes. And that was after numerous mistakes were ignored. He also didn't respond to her emails on numerous occasions. The disrespectful behavior made my wife feel very uncomfortable. Since signing the contract, the entire process with Metro has been stressful and frustrating. I understand mistakes happen, but what I witnessed was complete unawareness of our project from the owner (Anthony/Tony - who wrote a review for his own company on Google) and project manager. For example, my wife had to point out that they didn't install an outlet for the oven hood. And that was after the backsplash and cabinets went in. Most of the time, the main contractor wasn't even at the site to manage the sub-contractors. This led to many mistakes, delays, and items being damaged. It also made it so that when we got home from work, we had to spend an hour or longer checking in with the sub-contractors and work, when we could. While Metro posted on Instagram that they take the doors off the hinges to spray paint them, they didn't do that with our doors, it took repeated attempts to get this done. This created a huge mess with white paint all over our black hinges, handles, and wood floor and an uneven paint job. And they didn't paint our entire room and told us they did. We had to spend countless hours and days off of work to check their work, fix things, and call other contractors to ask questions about what Metro was doing. After the initial demo discovered no major issues, I was hopeful this would be a fairly straightforward process. Unfortunately, it wasn't; cabinets came mismeasured, screws for cabinet draw pulls were visible, and scratches were seen on installed items, items that were supposed to be brand new. After waiting 8 months for a dual fuel oven to arrive, which Metro told us to order, it was discovered Metro never installed the 220 line required to run the oven. They caused damage to the hallway common area walls and told us the building would take care of it. When we reached out to our building manager, they said Metro needs to take care of it. Every mistake/damage that was done required us to relentlessly beg Metro to fix. We were met with Tony telling us not to worry, it will be fixed. WE ARE STILL WAITING FOR THIS TO HAPPEN. In regard to professionalism, they are salespeople trying to get your business, friendly at first then hard to get a hold of once you put your initial payment in. In regard to payment, they require payments along the way, which is standard, and a substantial completion payment, NOT payment once the project is done, this is a red flag according to the Illinois Attorney General. We are very happy with Heather's design of our kitchen, but I do recommend researching your remodeling company and asking them for references you can personally contact about their experience and the finished product. And make sure to check projects not posted on social media. read more

What you see on Instagram is not what you get from Metro. I learned my $100,000 lesson the hard way by not checking their work with my own eyes. Specifically, I would recommend looking at projects not posted on their social media, if you are considering using this company. My fairly basic kitchen renovation with a new fireplace facade, TV cabinet, and shelving has taken over 8 months to complete. (We are still waiting for them to address concerns we have had for months). And we are still trying to get Metro to come back and finish things installed incorrectly or installed with damage done. The owner Tony is completely untrustworthy, incommunicative (he will only reach out when a bill is due), and called me passive aggressive when I reached out about my concerns with the lack of quality in their workmanship. We also had numerous details overlooked in the construction process from not having our wood floors covered during painting to the electrical work for our oven not being completed before they drywalled and installed cabinets. So the oven we waited 8 months for couldn't be installed due to their negligence and oversight. Tony said they would come and fix all of this and we are still waiting for that to be done. I spent hours on my hands and knees scraping paint off of our floor and chandelier. We were overcharged on our invoice and luckily we noticed because nobody on Metro's end said anything. Tony did not follow through on his word and at this point I would rather pay someone else to finish this project. I am sick to my stomach with how much this cost and the lack of integrity this company had while in my home. I would suggest going with a much cheaper and higher quality of work. (Moka, MK Designs) The only thing I would recommend is using Heather for design. read more

I cannot say enough good things about Metro Design Build. Before I found them, I couldn't get another designer to answer my emails/calls and actually work with me because my project was too small, and Heather and Tony were unbelievable. They responded right away and took on my project even though it was very small (color consultation for cabinets, picking tile for a backsplash, and installing the backsplash). They were punctual for each appointment. Heather brought creative ideas/solutions and gave me a design that I LOVE and would never have thought of myself. They answered all of my questions and were so kind and easy to work with. Then for installing the backsplash, they brought in a great tiler, who was friendly, efficient, and trustworthy. Tony came to check in on the progress and make sure it was being executed with excellence. We had a large space to tile, and the whole project was done in two days (with one tiler!). Absolutely incredible. I would recommend Metro Design Build for every project big or small. They are laser focused on providing high quality, trustworthy service, and they make sure all of the partner they work with perform similarly high quality, timely work. read more
