This is a local legendary food establishment in Tallahassee. It's one of those places that should be featured on DDD if it hasn't already. There was a line this past Monday when I went to lunch around noon, but it moved quickly. I tried the meatball sub this time and it was really good and filling. It is small inside so there's not a ton of seating and what seating there is is community style. There are also a couple of tables out front. I think the last time I dined here was a few years ago and I had "The Baze." I need a refresher on that sandwich because I'm not quite sure I recall whether I enjoyed it or not. read more

I was excited to finally try Metro deli. In the middle of downtown Tallahassee. It's a small but well run place. I ordered the Reuben with extra sauerkraut and dressing. And a scoop of chicken salad. The scoop of chicken salad was more like a small container of it, about a half pound size and it's tasty. I like mine with more mayonnaise, but the flavor is good. The Reuben was delicious. extra sauerkraut and sauce was on the sandwich without it being a drippy mess. I look forward to coming back to Metro deli to try the other sandwiches. I will say that they get quite a crowd around lunchtime, but I think that they move pretty fast making everything. read more

Let me first say, I ordered the Italian hoagie and it was good. The bread was soft and there was plenty of meat. That's the only reason they are getting 2 stars. Now for the bad, the service. I walked in and stood at the counter where there was an "Order Here" sign. There were two men behind the counter making sandwiches. I was the only one standing there. No acknowledgment. I figured I was standing in the wrong place, so I went to the register where I was told I needed to go back to the glass counter and order. At that time, one of the guys behind the counter looked at me and said "I got you." So I go back over and place my order - Italian hoagie with no tomatoes. I go back to the register and paid and then I took a seat right next to the counter. After 4 people came after me and was served, I went up to another person, who was putting the orders together to inform him that I didn't get my order. He asked what did I order, I told him and he then yells to the guys if they had my order - they didn't. They ended up making my order right there. I was handed my sub. No apology, no customer service. The restaurant was not busy, as I had entered after the lunch rush so there was no excuse for the delay in my order. I will not be returning. read more

I was in the mood for a sandwich and sought out the Metro Deli due to the good reviews (thank you, fellow yelpers). Walking into the place, I was welcomed by one of the counter people and noticed that one of the soups was chicken artichoke. This definitely caught my attention and mentally I added that to my order. For my sandwich, I opted for the hot pastrami and corned beef with swiss cheese. I opted to get my food to go as I had noticed a pleasant park and it was a great day for dining outdoors, so I chose a bench and tore into my lunch. The soup was very good. It would have been great if it has a touch more salt. The sandwich was substantial, although it could have used a bit more cheese. As for it being hot, not so much and instead of being steamed, I suspect it was thrown in a microwave. This is not a great place, but a good place and the price is a bit high. read more

I had no idea what to expect but didn't see a menu when I came in. I informed those behind the counter that I'd never been there before and was not doted on even though they were not busy. However, the young man behind the counter said their chicken salad sub was very popular so I ordered it and proceeded down to pay. Again, the man taking money was a bit curt when I asked if they had chips or anything. (I didn't see them). He took the money and pointed towards the drink machine. Soon, my sandwich arrived. It came with lettuce, tomato, red onion. I didn't want the banana peppers on it. The taste of the chicken salad was probably the best I've ever had! I ate the entire sandwich which is very unusual for me. Their own line of chips were very crunchy and flavorful. The coke was a good mix. Despite not being as welcomed as I had hoped, that's in me. For the first time in my life, I wished there was more green salad. I also tried the Cubano sandwich. Their version was good. The meat was a little dry but still really good. Get a cookie it is worth it. There is virtually no wait time from when you order to when they wrap it up for you. It is a well-oiled machine. I will make this my spot whenever in town. So one of my sorority sisters and I decided to grab lunch downtown and I can't believe I've waited so long to come here! We walked in at 11:30 and missed the 12pm rush, the line was out the door when we left. I was pleased with the price and service. I got the meatball parmesan sub with bbq chips, a chocolate cookie and a drink. I also took a nibble of my sisters cookie as well. The cookies were amazing, very rich. My sub was tasty I thought I would eat half but ended up eating the whole thing right there and then. You can tell Metro Deli appreciates your business and I love supporting local businesses. It was a special place and I didn't think I could find another like it, but luckily Metro Deli is a dead ringer for my old favorite. I loved this place. I was working within walking distance for a few days and stumbled across it when I went hunting for food. The staff is great; fast, friendly, friendly, enjoyable, etc..., and the food was great! Everything that I tried was delicious! Thank God for this reliable downtown staple. I once had a co-worker trained to offer to buy me a cookie every time he ordered from Metro Deli. Since he left the office, I've been left to forage for chocolate on my own. I don't have a standard order here, but have never left disappointed. Today, I had the "Baze" specialty sandwich delivered to my office. Banana peppers and red onion liven up what would otherwise be just another sweet dijon chicken salad sandwich. It was served with a pickle spear blatantly cut by a human being and not heavy machinery. A+. Today could be a particularly long day, so in addition to the kettle-style hickory barbecue chips, I ordered a side of potato salad. It's a smoother, noticeably mayonnaisey potato salad sprinkled with sweet relish bits. I topped it with a quick grind of pepper for a bit of contrast. I'd always prefer to walk through our downtown, talk to the staff at the counter, and sit in the busy restaurant (which starkly differs from the interior of my office). But when you have to order delivery online, you can specify in the notes that you'd prefer the barbecue flavored chips or the white chocolate macadamia nut cookie if they have it available. read more

Let's face it; the downtown deli shouldn't be as good as it is. Luckily for us, Metro Deli brings their A game every day. You either get it or you don't. Tattooed sandwich creators strut behind the counter pumping out grinders, melts and sandwiches like an assembly line to Tallahassee's white collar crowd. Yesterday's delicacy - THE Pastrami Grinder. Meaty pastrami, pickles, Swiss cheese and mustard all pressed on a toasted hoagie roll. I was utterly speechless. The juiciness coming from the meat makes my mouth water as I type. I worked downtown a few summers back, which was when I discovered this no nonsense deli. I do not frequent Metro as much as I should. The hot sandwiches are their specialty, but they'll craft a gigantic salad or a breakfast treat if you desire. I'm sure most will award Metro four stars. OG Subs is good but didn't wow me and outside of that, the sub and sandwich scene in Tallahassee is lacking unless you count the chains (Firehouse, Jersey Mike's, etc) and I don't. Hopkins Eatery is awesome but I guess I just don't consider them as a sandwich place because of everything else they offer but if you haven't already, you should check them out. Anyway, I feel like my sandwich search has finally ended. Metro Deli is remarkable! I can't believe it took me this long to try them out. It's a nice low key deli spot off of N Monroe. Stopped in because I seen they make Cubans (one of my favorite sandwiches), it was delicious to say the least.
