Was super excited to take the class, bought my pilates socks only to be rudely turned away by the guy about to teach the class. There was nothing online saying I needed to be there early if it's my first time at the studio(when I signed up for an intro class pack-should be posted) and I was treated so poorly and without any sympathy I will not be a return client. After online digging, it says theres a mandatory 15 minute intro under "policies". Would have been happy to comply if I'd known, hopefully they fix this for first time clients on the website or have kinder instructors to be given the information from.

And no offense to all you lovely locals but I was skeptical that I would find a good pilates class in Missoula. Welp, I'm here to tell you that Main Street Pilates is as knowledgeable and as experienced as any reputable pilates gym in a metropolitan are. I typically get private classes from either Kirsten or Joy. Both of these instructors are very knowledgeable and both practice the traditional teachings of Joseph Pilates. The equipment MSP uses is also traditional equipment which I prefer over the newer bed versions, which I find to be too bulky and harder to move in thus making it harder to focus on specific body parts. The studio is immaculate, very clean. And they require that you use a mask inside which I prefer. They are located right above Habitat floral shop on Higgins.

However, my experience with Frances was so bad, so embarrassing, so unprofessional, I am just beside myself. Just because I'm not a skinny young lady like you, doesn't mean you can body shame me and laugh at me. I thought an instructor is there to encourage you, not subtly make fun of a slightly larger lady to other participants. Thanks for taking my already embarrassed view of myself and make it worse! You'll never get another penny from me and I recommend no one else give Frances any business. Disgusting business ethics.

After doing some research we landed at Peak which was conveniently located in town. Our first impression was getting registered for a day pass with Dylan and another female employee whose name I didn't catch. They were beyond polite to us out-of-towners, got us our day passes, and then helped us get the lay of the land of this huge facility. It has a unique shape and layout if you haven't visited before, but once we got our bearings I was pleasantly surprised with all it had to offer. The machines were in excellent condition, there was plenty of space for all the members to get after it, and the overall facilities were extremely well maintained. I loved the placement of machines and especially all the individual cardio machines near the turf. I used Jacob's ladder for the first time, lots of other benches and machines, and cooled down on the turf. My boyfriend had quick access to a powerlifting platform and all-you-can-lift weights. The sauna was my next stop, because no ball busting workout is complete without doubling the sweat, and then for the female locker room I used an individual shower with a seat and curtain, while my boyfriend did mention the men's locker room has an open area shower. The bathroom was clean and modern, lots of locker room storage, don't forget your own lock. The facility provided towels upon request, and was equipped with several sanitizing wipe stations for cleaning machines if you care about things like that. Thank you Peak for offering a top notch facility.

I guess the best way to describe it is that it is similar to pilates in that you use a machine that's made of wood and has lots of pulleys. But the movements are more similar to dancing. And if I'm not mistaken this form of exercise was created for dancers, by dancers. I typically will go back-and-forth and will do pilates for a few months, then switch to gyrotonic. This gym has an area for some Olympic lifting (with quality Rogue men's AND women's bars) , standard squat racks, and room upstairs for more dynamic exercise. The rooftop will be amazing in the summer, I can't wait to see what they have to offer. Since this gym changed ownership, you can really tell that a heavy amount of thought and planning has gone into developing this massive space into a down to earth health and wellness facility.
