Nurses and doctors were great, especially Sergio.. he made sure my questions were answered and my lunch was delivered and found out if I could leave . The ER staff was wonderful too. But I wonder how thorough all hospitals clean the rooms and restrooms.. the ER room was out of toilet paper. The restroom in my room had dried blood stains on the floor and restroom.. Ugh.. I had my husband bring me a can of Lysol. Some of the techs wore gloves and some didn't. You'd think hospitals would be more precautious and thoroughly clean and spray disinfectant in the entire room when someone is dismissed ... especially in this day and age we're in? with so many viruses all around. The kitchen forgot to bring breakfast one day and lunch another day. I didn't get any supplies like Kleenex, toothbrush/toothpaste.. I had to ask for them. My husband had to go get me iced water. I know it's not a hotel but since you're there to feel better the least they can do is make it as clean as possible so you don't risk catching something else. read more

The nurses were very thorough. I had one aide that hated me from misunderstanding me but I only had her half the day. I was moved to a different floor and a nurse gave me too strong of a potassium IV thought my arm would burn off my body but it's ok now. My Dr or his office never put my biopsy report on the portal and no one knew where he went. His phone number was wrong on the discharge papers, he had left that office 3 months before and no other info. After 5 weeks, I went to a new Dr and his office girl dug into my records and could request my info and put it online. I finally found out my biopsy results! read more

DO NOT GO TO THIS HOSPITAL!!! My Dad is lucky to get out of there alive. Horrible care, they let him sit in urine since he was unable to move for 6 hours after a heart catheter. They sent him home with a huge skinned place on his back where some kind of patch was placed. They also left him with open wounds in the groin area. Didn't stitch the area or even put a butterfly bandage. Horrible care and unprofessional staff!!! read more

Not a great experience. I had a fainting spell and was rushed to this hospital. I could not walk from being dizzy and was vomiting. The nurse that goes by TT had no bed side manner. She repeatedly asked if I could walk to the restroom on my own so she didn't have to get a wheelchair, showed me where the trash bags were across the room because I had dropped the one that was on my bed and I couldn't get up to get another one, and when I got back in bed, did nothing to help me cover myself up even though I could hardly move and had many tubes connected to me. I have never been treated this way. It was a horrible, demeaning experience. read more

Before You Trust...Please Hear My Story I know your time is valuable, and I wouldn't ask you to read this unless I believed it could truly protect you or someone you love. My story takes a moment to get through--but please, be patient. What happened to me began as a hopeful decision and ended with trauma I'm still recovering from. You deserve to know why I would urge you--seriously--to look elsewhere for your surgical care. In October 2024, after careful research and months of deliberation, I chose the UTSA Spine Center for what was supposed to be a relatively straightforward, quasi-elective spinal procedure. I was admitted early in the morning on October 14 and wheeled into surgery with cautious optimism. When I woke up from anesthesia later that day, I actually felt better than I had in a long time. For a brief moment, I thought I was on the right track. I had no idea that the next 20+ days would bring four surgeries, two medically induced comas, two ICU stays (at two different hospitals), a bloodstream infection, a bacterial disease infiltrating my spine, a lacerated esophagus, and a total of 86 different medications--many of which I'm still feeling the effects of today. Here's what happened: A Downward Spiral of Surgical Failures After the initial surgery, things seemed stable. A UT Health resident, who had been part of all procedures, felt confident enough to prepare me for discharge just one day later. Only a delay from physical therapy postponed that to day three. But just one day after going home, I returned to the ER in crisis. I had developed massive internal swelling--seroma and possibly active bleeding. I was readmitted on October 17 and taken back into surgery that afternoon. The goal: identify the source of a suspected spinal fluid leak. It wasn't successful. On October 21, I underwent a third surgery. During that operation, a vertebra was removed--allegedly to chase a suspected CSF (spinal fluid) leak. Later reviews cast doubt on whether such a leak ever existed. Regardless, I was placed into a medically induced coma. When I awoke three days later, I was informed that I was being transferred to University Hospital. I was barely aware that my body had already been colonized by hospital-acquired infections during the first surgery. At that point, it was almost too late to contain the damage. The Transfer: Medical or Strategic? According to the official story, the transfer to University Hospital was because they had neurological and infectious disease specialists that Methodist Texsan lacked. But the truth is harder to ignore: Methodist didn't want to carry the liability. They wanted me off their books. UT Health--my original surgical team--coordinated the transfer, and they remained in charge of my care. It was UT Health's own team that performed the fourth surgery on October 25 at University Hospital, led by the department chair. That surgery would result in one of the most catastrophic injuries of all. A Torn Esophagus--and No Apologies During that procedure, a retractor used to hold my esophagus out of the way tore a 5 cm hole through it. That injury was so serious it required emergency intervention by ENT surgeons, eight days of being unable to eat or drink, and long-term recovery. The head UT surgeon reported the laceration himself--yet no apology was ever made. Even more shocking: When I arrived at University Hospital, the anesthesiology team had no medication records from Methodist. Nothing. The only meds they had were the ones I brought from home. I had been on a complex regimen of drugs, including serious sedatives and antibiotics, and yet there was no formal handoff. One medication I had been on for days was abruptly stopped--no weaning, no explanation. Their system was broken. And now, unfortunately, so am I. Aftermath and Lingering Damage Following the esophageal injury and systemic infection, I was sent home with a PICC line on November 5. I was responsible for twice-daily IV infusions for 30 days. I remained on antibiotics for six months. I still see infectious disease specialists. I still battle fatigue, disrupted sleep, and other long-term effects from the medication overload and mismanagement. And yet, somehow, this entire ordeal has never resulted in a single apology. No acknowledgment of what happened. No institutional accountability. Please Learn From Me I'm not saying what happened to me will happen to you. But I am saying this is a true story. These were real decisions made by UT Health surgeons--some of the most senior in their department--and real oversights that could have cost me my life. If you're considering care through UTSA Spine Center or Methodist Texsan Hospital, I urge you to think twice. The risks are not theoretical. I lived them. And I am still living with the consequences. We actually experienced the hospital on two ways within a weeks time. First mother's surgery at this hospital but also had to transport her to their ER. Our experience was completely positive. Everyone we encountered was willing to go above and beyond. Every nurse was compassionate, positive and respectful. We were almost sad to leave. Facilities were clean, coffee and hot water for tea were always available to visitors, we were welcome to stay 24 hours (which we did). We truly felt welcome to help my mother through her recovery immediately after surgery. Even in the ER we felt heard. Because my mother was in so much pain they did a complete assessment including time with the physical therapist to evaluate how she was doing. We were so impressed by everyone who worked at the hospital. We cannot thank them enough for the positive experience in a stressful time. read more

Staff is polite & respectful. upon admission I provided a complete list of medications, a power of attorney & patient history. Admitted an infection in the bone with 2 open wounds and infected drainage. No antibiotic for 2 days. Anti-depressants not given until I ask why due to erratic behavior. Waited 4 days with a severe infection for surgery. DNR was requested & mentioned day one. immediately prior to surgery, was denied surgery unless decline DNR, against patient wishes. I had a total knee replacement February 1, 2023 by Dr Peter Holmes. He botched the job, cutting the bone at the wrong angle and using the wrong size parts. No one informed me of the botched job, I had ti find out a year later after pain and decrease in range of motion. read more

I was told yesterday by another nurse in another facility that " this is where you are sent to die" No compassion, poor clinical knowledge! My husband was a patient there for 51 days last August bc there were " no other beds in the city" He was forced out to a rehabbed facility which was very nice but he died 5 hours after! He literally had the life sucked out of him at Texan. I am a retired critical care nurse so this was not my first rodeo. I appealed to Medicare to no avail. My dad had back surgery here. This place is seriously fantastic from the moment they check you in, the service is great. Their food could use a new menu and the cafeteria food is not the greatest. My husband was transferred from the ER to the ICU at Methodist Texsan. He was in danger of having a heart attack, so that's why he was placed in the ER. The staff there was incredible. Justin was our main day nurse and he gave amazing care and education to both of us. My husband did need to have a stent put into one of his coronary arteries. The bathroom shower in my husband's room after knee replacement was disgusting. It had black mold all over. I reported and complained. We had 6 people come in and investigate. They were very nice and apologetic but it was totally unexceptionable for a hospital. I would never want anyone to experience how bad it was. Especially after total knee replacement and an open wound. The only reason I give one star is because the staff was kind, but the filthy shower could bring on staff infection. People are professional and friendly for the most part and the medical staff seems on the ball. Gift shop is good and so is the cafeteria - although very small. I can't say enough about the treatment I received after having back surgery here. The rehab department was unbelievable. I was there for nearly 3 weeks with physical therapy every day, and without exception every member of their staff. Physical Therapist, nurses, aides, admitting doctors, they were amazing. If you need hospitalization for COVID-19 avoid #Texsan Methodist at all costs. On Thursday, an older friend with COPD called. He was very delirious. I was not able to get to his house in a timely manner. I called 911. EMS agreed that he was delirious. He also had COVID-19 symptoms. He was admitted. He tested positive for COVID-19. I turned health advocate duties over to his daughter but still talk to him daily. I asked on Friday if he was put on Paxlovid. He did not know. He was worse yesterday, but not horrible. He was also diagnosed with pneumonia yesterday. Today, instead of getting the no-less than 25 news articles that he texts me daily, I get none. I had a busy day so I called him at about 2:00. I asked questions with his only answer being, "I don't know". I called the nurse's station and was blown off (he had given them permission for me to talk to them). I talked to both his daughter and his healthcare professional roommate. When asked if he was put on Paxlovid to stop the replication of the virus, they both said they were leaving the care in the hands of the doctors. I educated my friend on Paxlovid. He asked the nurse for it. He was blown off. He was told that he would have to tough it out. He has COPD and now pneumonia and they are doing NOTHING to stop the replication of this respiratory virus in his body. I got involved. The end result is that he is getting on Paxlovid to stop the replication of the virus in the cells. I was told the reason he was not given it is because it is an out-patient treatment. I asked what where they doing to stop the replication of COVID in the cells. The answer was nothing. I was also told that it was given to those who test positive, but have no symptoms. Huh? The prescribed method of this medication is to take it within the first five days of showing symptoms. I was told that it did not stop the replication of the virus. Huh? Finally, I was told that the patient had to ask for it (which he just did and he was blown off). He is getting on it now. It would have been better if he got on it two days ago. This hospital has the ability to stop the replication of this virus. They have not given him Paxlovid (nirmatrelvir/ritonavir), molnupiravir, or remdesivir to do this. Instead, they were telling a 70-year-old man with COPD and pneumonia that he was going to have to "tough it out". read more

I had a heart attack last Thanksgiving (2021) and was admitted to Texsan where I underwent cardiac cath and had four stents put in. People think it is strange when I tell them that not only was my experience "not" unpleasant, but it was actually pleasant. The nurses were great, the food was great, and with the cardiac cath procedure, I had no discomfort, and when I came out of the anesthesia, I felt great. More blood flow to my brain. I broke my foot on September 18 went to the ER and was treated horribly. I gave my Nurse Jag all of my information. Advised I'm allergic to codiene. She returns 30 minutes later said the Doctor wants you to take this. I said that is codiene based. She said yea but most people can take this even if they are allergic to codiene. I said no ma'am I don't want to take a chance. So her words were okay since you are refusing then we can give you ibuprofen. Mind you I'm in excruciating pain. I said no ma'am I don't wanna be charged 100 dollars for a pill I can take when I get home. She then came back with a Tramadol pill. About 5 minutes later someone walked in saying they we're gonna put an air cast on my foot and they were not gonna lie it would be painful. My daughter asked for the Doctor because my Nurse was already in a bad mood. The doctor came in and said there is nothing else I can give you everything has codiene. Well I have 30 years medical experience. I hadn't been to a hospital in many years like more than 5. I was appalled. They botched an air cast on my foot and leg as I winced in pain. I was then discharged with a prescription for tramadol which didn't even phase the pain I was feeling. My daughter told me to give it a day to see if I got any relief. Well I didn't. My ties were numb and tingling feels like the circulation was cut off on my leg. I was taken to a different hospital the next day. They gave me something for pain that eased it in which I didn't expect it to go away. Then unwrap my leg and foot to find my foot twisted to the inside and what appeared to be a pediatric cast. The swelling was horrible. They rewrapped my foot and leg and immediately I felt more relief. The hospitality was excellent. This is how I should have been treated. I have names of all involved from the first facility. I hope no one ever experience what I went through. I'm 63 and first time ever breaking a bone. read more

Asks me without looking at me what's wrong--tell her I am having arrythmias and she starts arguing with me--am I sure ?do I know what that is? Tells me I probably don't know what I am having--DUH--like I have had these many times I should know !!then all I see is a P A who doesn't even exam me just drills me about whether I fainted or not--asking same thing over and over and tells me nothing shows on EKG so probably just anxiety though my BP is 222/90!!---if you are dying or having cardiac issues do Not go there--you will probably not make it read more

I needed to come here after a TERRIBlE experience at Westover Santa Rosa. As soon as I walked in I was treated as if I was the most important patient there. I told the nurse at the front desk my situation and I was swiftly taken to a room. As she walkied to someone about me going in there, I was greeted by another nurse. They got me sat down and triage me in the room. They also completed my paperwork and before I knew it the doctor walked in. He was already briefed about what was going on. We talked about my symptoms and he was direct but kind. Soon after the tech came in for my bloodwork. He was able to joke with me and was efficient. He even asked if he could get something for me, which I'm sure isn't apart of his job. I was treated and was able to leave quickly. Every person I experienced was kind, professional, and knowledgeable. They acted like they cared. I will return to this ER I'm the future if needed. I feel safe in their hands. read more

He was able to walk out of there in 3 days. From dietary to the doctor's and nurses everyone was so nice and caring. Big Shout out to Brenda and the awesome dietary staff, never has hospital food tasted so good! The pork chops on his last day were awesome according to him. For all the time that he was there food was always tasty and the right temperature.The environmental cleaning staff was great everything was always cleaned and the smiles and attitude was always positive. My father in law had his knee replaced here and received outstanding care. The nurses and doctors all were personable and approachable. They took the time to explain the prep, procedure, and aftercare. My father in law can be a pain in the butt and the staff here didn't miss a beat and had him cracking up. They even let him keep his teddy bear right up to before being wheeled into surgery (it's cute to see a 67 year old with a teddy bear). All the rooms are private and the facilities are spotless. The level of personal care has been impressive. They had him up and walking within a few hours after surgery. The staff was great. Service was great. Administration is horrible. Billing is not following the laws. After they submit the claim to insurance and in return receive request for supporting documentation, they do not respond and provide this paperwork. Instead, they sell the bill to a debt collector. This is despicable, especially for an organization pretending to be faith based. Make sure to report them to the department of insurance and BBB for fraud. read more
