When you walk in you get the feeling that you just travelled 60 years back in time. Both of us ordered a burger and a side order. We didn't have to wait long for the side orders to arrive. The burger at first seemed small but looks can be deceiving; halfway through we were both full. The service is nice and the personnel are all very friendly and smiling.

The name translates to the Cave of Luis Candelas which was a famous folklore thief, that stole from the rich and would hide in the caves under the city. Here you would find all the famous tapa food staples so we ordered a whole bunch of dishes such as the jamon Serrano, toast with tomato, ham and fish fritters, and grilled octopus. All the appetizers were delicious and the ham was perfectly cured and had a taste that you can't find back in the US. For the main course we ordered oxtail with French fries and their white bean Stu. The soup was very hearty and the oxtail was the most tender meat I ever had. For dessert they brought out this custard that was smooth and sweet. The staff were also very friendly while the ambiance was very unique but be careful going down the caves because the steps here are very steep.

We asked our server about the Lhardy story and apparently their other location was one of the first fine dining establishments in Spain. I'm talking white tablecloth, fancy silverware, upscale service etc. She also told us Lhardy was the first restaurant in Spain to "let" women dine there without their husbands.
