When I was looking for daycares I toured a few before deciding on Brownstone. What I like about…read moreBrownstone is the vibe of it - I think it has a familiar, familial vibe to it. It's not stuffy. Some of the other daycares I toured had a real 'factory' vibe to them that seemed cold and like some sort of weird production line where the kids went through the same station rotation every day. Brownstone has the structure that kids need, but also allows for flexibility. While there's a lot of the typical turnover you see in all daycares, there doesn't seem to be a lot of turnover with the lead teachers, who are the ones you want to be consistent. One of the best things about Brownstone is that they allow part-time care for infants and toddlers, which is REALLY hard to find, and are reasonably priced. They are currently a 3 star SUTQ rated facility, which is a good rating. If you can get over some of the superficial things that need fixing up (which kids don't give a hoot about) you won't be disappointed in the quality of care. *Not receiving any freebies for this recommendation. Just want to get the word out that this is a good value daycare in the area.

I was actually "fired" from Brownstone after my last complaint two months ago when they raised the…read moreprices to almost $400 a week for an infant (this is $100 more than my first child paid at the same facility at the same age, with longer standing staff). I'd have been happy to pay more if the increase was going to the teachers like they said it would. After speaking to current and former employees, they never saw those funds from the increase in tuition. Therefore the question remains, where did that money go? Not to mention that in addition to the weekly fee, you will pay a monthly teacher fee (no idea what this is for) and a monthly organic fee. They raised prices for services they had told us they were already providing, such as yoga. In one price raise (they had 3 or 4 since Covid), they stated they were going to be installing an outdoor water play area, which they did. However, capital improvements should be part of a business's operating income-not my tuition, in my opinion. Teachers were in and out and we never knew who our child would be with that day. Well meaning teachers who got no support from ownership. The center is disorganized and did not allow for day to day communications. This was absolutely a favor that we parted ways with Brownstone. I was comfortable with the care there when we started almost 4 years ago, but the quality of care has declined sharply in that time.

Hey CYO fans just wanted to get some opinions regarding an unpleasant phone call that I just had…read morewith St Bridget of Kildare CYO Athletics athletic director Jonathan Boncela. Background My step sons were suspended from their current CYO Cross Country season for our failure to work the volleyball fundraiser tournament. This left them in tears tonight as they were made aware that not only would they not be able to run the last two races of the season but also that they wouldn't be able to run with the team at practice tonight to East Coast Custard. The Call When I was made aware of this I found it completely unacceptable and made a call to Jon to discuss. I agreed that he was well within his rights to uphold their policy but I wanted to discuss options that wouldn't include punishing the kids. I suggested that he allow them to finish the season with the understanding that they would not be eligible to register for Winter sports. I also suggested that he set the expectations that if someone worked the basketball tournament that they would be eligible to register for Spring sports. Jon disagreed with my suggestions saying the only way they could continue with cross country is if someone worked the volleyball tournament. So you're thinking..... Why didn't you or mom work the tournament? Good question. Short answer is that they treated my wife very poorly earlier this year when she tried to help one of their coaches with a volleyball practice so that wasn't on the table. Not to mention that we didn't know this was an issue until there were a very limited number of time slots available to help. Why didn't Dad do it? I can't speak to this. It could be very much justified. I don't know. My Opinion I believe that every adult has choices in these situations. I believe that someone in charge of a parish CYO program should look for alternatives to punishing the kids. I laid out what I thought was a very fair alternative which allowed Jon to uphold the rules while not punishing my step sons and he chose the hard line alternative. I think this was very wrong but I am very interested in your thoughts.
