I have had 2 of my children attend there and graduate. One was bullied, the other just put up with…read moreeverything and turned an eye. Our youngest attended there and we were forced to withdraw her because of the favortism played. She was a 4.1 gpa never in trouble and things changed when she went to her counselor due to a bad day and it ended where the counselor said she took pills. Non of which she did and then she had to get evaluated to go back, we abided by that and when we presented the hospital proof that she took nothing, was in sound mind, the prinicipal made up a contract which no one would admit to approving. My daughter refused to sign as they wanted control of her in and out of school. After summer and my daughter wanted to go back and attend senior year...so she signed. A month later an incident happened between her and her BF at 10pm! nowhere near the school...no charges, nothing and the school wanted to expel my daughter but permit the boy to still attend the school, and he is the one who told my daughter to kill herself. In the meantime, we get from her friends that they could no longer speak to her because of being told to by the school, all blocked her out of fear of repercussion. We ended up withdrawing her... The emotional abuse they put our daughter through has caused PTSD. It has shaken my faith, but God has been by our side to see her through and with the help of a caring school she graduated early and is working on her career choice. Things like this does exist and it happened to so many...some schools are just better at hiding their dark secrets.

Pioneer Academy has been an incredible experience for our family. We enrolled our 4th grade son…read morelast fall after realizing that the traditional school environment simply wasn't the right fit for how he learns. Pioneer Acton Academy in Richfield offers a unique learner-driven approach that is very different from traditional schools. Honestly, making the decision to switch schools was pretty scary for us. We did a lot of research and spent a long time wondering if we were making the right choice, but we really felt like we were selling him short by keeping him where he was. Our son is a very bright child who always got good grades at his previous school, but it was becoming obvious that it wasn't the best fit for him. Sitting still through long classes, moving from subject to subject on a rigid schedule, and being expected to learn the same way as everyone else was slowly draining his curiosity and passion for learning. Any 'plan' to help him seemed more about making him 'fit in the box' than about recognizing his strengths and how he naturally learns. He had developed a strong dislike of school, and watching his love of learning fade was really heartbreaking. Pioneer Academy completely changed that. The environment encourages independence, curiosity, and problem solving. Instead of just being given answers, the kids are encouraged to ask questions, think things through, and figure things out. There's a lot of movement, collaboration, hands-on learning, and time outdoors. And the guides at Pioneer have been incredible! They truly know the kids, challenge and support them, and create an environment where students feel capable, trusted, and motivated to grow. They recognize that all kids learn in different ways. Instead of trying to force every child into the same mold, they create an environment where students can take ownership of their learning, explore their interests, and develop confidence in themselves. This kind of environment is good for every child! It challenges kids to go deeper and focus on true mastery instead of just learning for a test. The kids take real ownership of their learning, which helps them build confidence, independence, and a growth mindset. Each session includes a "quest" where the kids dive deeply into a topic through projects and exploration. Right now they're doing a quest called "Newton's Toy Box," and our son comes home so excited to tell us about what he's learning, building, testing, and discovering. One of the biggest differences we've seen is in his attitude toward school. He is genuinely excited to go every day. In fact, he was disappointed when he had to miss a couple of days for a family ski trip. That alone says a lot! Watching our son rediscover his excitement and passion for learning has been amazing, and we're so grateful we found Pioneer!

First off, my family lived across the street from this gorgeous church in the late 1980s / 1990s. My parents still own my family's 4th generation upholstery business down the street. This church is a local landmark and icon of the community and has breathtaking architecture. Although I do not attend Catholic mass anymore, this church and the people that work there still visit my mother and have connections to the family. It is a non-ethnic church, as my mother's family grew up in Slavic Village and attended the Polish St Stanislaus, and then my grandmother was a founding member of the Westlake Catholic Church St Ladislas. My grandfather was Romanian Orthodox, but grew up for a brief time near the Lorain Historic District / Cudell in a mini Romanian community down the street from this church. This church has served generations of Clevelanders and its different ethnicities that came together. Very hopeful for the neighborhood and the economic development taking place in the area recently. I cannot say enough about the excellent teachers, the administrative staff, the dedicated food service workers , and all auxiliary personnel who make the place run so smoothly. For students who take initiative, opportunities for personal and professional growth (i.e. SkillsUSA and National Technical Honor Society) abound at this institution. I took my test, and passed, and recieved my certificate. I was offered a job with Cleveland Clinic up north (I live in Bath/Fairlawn), for overnights for $13/hour. Target, at the same time, was offering $18/hour in my town. I pictured my drive to whatever city their telemetry hub was from where I live, and there was no way I was going to drive to work in the snow, work 8-12 hours, and then drive 45-60 minutes home for $13 per hour, and no union. I got a decent education, but its actually worthless now that AI is taking over everything. The nurse who taught my class was amazing, engaging, and very thourough. I am grateful I was offered a job, but no one can live on the pittance Cleveland Clinic offers when you are a fresh graduate from CVCC. We were all looking for good jobs, and were let down. If Target is paying a higher wage to keep a roof over your head and feed your family, that $5/hour= $200/per week or $800/month. (x40 hours a week), I would try working at Target before I'd pay the gas and accepting the commute to work everyday/night in the snow, CVCC is not transparent about your expected earinings, and it's a HUGE disappointment. My ekg liscence was worth exactly nothing compared to a Medical Assistant, because they already get that as a part of their certificate. I now have something to hang on my wall, but nothing else.
