The residence portion is free to check out and only takes a minute to walk through as it's small. I was actually shocked that they didn't ask for a few bucks - even just a dollar - to walk through it - but they don't so I imagine the shop must be doing ok on its own. So this is a cute attraction to check out - young kids will probably be impressed trying to imagine how people could have once lived this way - adults will be equally impressed. Worth the quick look. And it's next door to San Miguel Church which is definitely worth the visit. Enjoy!

This review is for the waterfall area…read more I'm a planner, especially on vacation. You know those people that are like, "Oh, let's roll into town and go from there." Yeah, that's not me. I think I read 3 books on New Mexico before our visit and may or may not have created a spreadsheet. While driving on the high road from Taos to Santa Fe, my husband spotted a sign for Nambe Lake Falls. It was not on the agenda and a little out of the way. I grudgingly agreed to this detour. We drive to the ranger's station and pay our $10 to drive back to the start of the trail that leads to the waterfall. It starts to rain. You can imagine how happy I am. There are several families in campers there enjoying the peaceful and scenic area. It's a 15 minute hike to the falls and things got a little slippery and muddy. Once we arrived at the damn and falls, it was worth the short hike. Exercise+scenic area+photo op = worthwhile.

It is a relatively new park, celebrating its 10 year anniversary this year. Literature is great, especially the map for the walking tour as well as the buildings "behind the fence". If you collect national park stamps and the NPS visitor center is closed, you can also get it at the Los Alamos visitor center right next door as well as at the Los Alamos Historical Center museum just a little ways away.

Out of respect, I did not take any pictures of it. I felt amazement at the construction, when it was done, and the fact that so much remains. I felt reverence for these people, their lives and the spiritual connection they had to the land. I also felt a great sadness - for the 80 years of conflict and the number of people (on both sides) who lost their lives. Grateful to live in a place and time when I don't have to live in fear of being killed for what I believe.

I feel kind of weird rating a pueblo here... I'm basically rating a village and tourist site for a…read moregroup of native New Mexicans. At the same time, it was a cool cultural experience that anyone visiting New Mexico should probably do. We heard about the pueblos through the Santa Fe tourist site and decided it was an absolute must for us. We went to San Ildefonso because we read about how they fought off the Spaniards and their famed pottery. The pueblo is very easy to find, and very well marked for the visitor. You know exactly where to pull up and park; do that (WATCH OUT for those speed bumps!) and check in. This pueblo allows you to register a camera for a fee ($10) and take pictures. There were quite a few people coming and going throughout this pueblo-- it was very alive! Children running and playing, adults hanging by the porches, etc. The pueblo also has a museum about the famous black-on-black pottery the pueblo is known for. It was interesting to learn how it was made, and more about the San Ildefonso culture. The museum cost was included with the carload entry fee. This pueblo also has several shops and when you check in they give you a map of where these shops are. It was helpful as some of the shops are in people's homes, and we didn't want to trespass. It was sometimes confusing as to which were open, though. And a quick heads up that the pottery sold here is expensive!! $60 for a 3" round bowl, over a hundred to several hundred for some of the bigger bowls. It is beautiful, though, and I think they are quite the collector's item. If you're going to visit a pueblo, this is a good one to visit. IGNORE THE YELP MAPPING on this one-- it is not in downtown Santa Fe! However around noon there were sprinkles turning into a hard downpour. It typically does not rain that long here but Mother Nature had another idea. Torrential rains for at least 2 hours. We sought refuge in various galleries during the lighter part of the rain. Staff welcomed us to stay as long as necessary.

I loved roaming the shelves of this library! For a library that looked small, it was big in service…read more(friendly librarian in front) and had lots of items to check out (children to adult books, DVDs and more). If you want to own the books you read, the Book Barn in back had lots of used books to buy at reasonable prices. I think buying them is on the honor system. When I first walked in, no one was inside. When I returned with Husband and our niece, someone was inside - we think she was a customer. A sign said to bring books to the front. Outside and inside, several places were available to sit and read. Also behind the library was flowing hot springs, with places to sit nearby, after dipping one's hand in the springs. Be careful though. It's hot! Safer to sit & read!

Super cute public library, this building reminds me a little of Ernie Pyle library in Albuquerque…read more-- a small home that was converted into a book haven. We enjoyed the customer, er, member service very much, the sole librarian was engaging and super informative, and before we knew it we were headed out the back door... to the sale barn. That's what I'll call it, anyway. Behind this library you'll find books priced to move like a yard sale, anywhere from a quarter to a couple bucks, which was a lifesaver when our little bookworm ran out of reading material on a road trip. Clearly, the town of Jemez Springs contributes the majority of materials to this communal resource, which is precisely the way I'd imagine life in the area, if I lived there: plenty of starry nights and shooting stars, lots of fly fishing and a ton of books.
