With all requirements being equal, Merriman promptly responded with the most reasonable bid. Mary Ann was very prompt and flexible throughout the process. Her crew was punctual, respectful, and professional. All work was performed as agreed upon (trees and stumps were removed) without any damage to surrounding structures or landscaping. All debris was removed and the only evidence that work was done was the neat pile of wood chips left by the stump grinder. I would definitely recommend Merriman for any tree removal work and would not hesitate to work with them again. The crew called ahead to let us know the arrival time and efficiently removed two trees in our front yard and ground the stumps well below the ground level. We received an estimate for tree removal, clean up, stump grinding and grass seed/straw for a very large Oak tree on April 11, 2017.   Out of the six estimates we received this one was the best priced for what they offered and came recommended. It took quite some time to get it scheduled due to all the rain we had this spring. We received a call in May asking if the crew could come that weekend.  They arrived as indicated only for us to be told they wouldn't take the tree down without a crane as it was too tall.  The man who showed up said he was told the tree was only 75 foot tall.  He called the owner to tell her he would not climb the tree to take it down without a crane.  The worker had the owner on speaker phone and my husband heard her say "we're going to lose money on this job".  We were told she, the owner, was the one who came out to the house and looked at the tree in order to prepare the estimate for us. Meanwhile we were told they'd come back in two weeks.  After two weeks went by I called and left a message asking for a return call, not a text, not an email, but a call to me, not my husband as he's out in the field working, but to call me to let me know what was going on..  I left both my work and cell number.  I got home that evening and my husband asked me, did you call Merriman today?  He had received a text message.  I called the next day only to be told, I'm sorry, I wanted to get you an answer right away and didn't listen to your message all the way through.  Well...she didn't get ME the answer right away and what kind of business owner doesn't listen to a voicemail?  What kind of service is that?!? In my personal opinion a business is best operated by phone calls, so much can be lost in text messaging and tone can't be heard in a text message and her text messages can and do have a VERY RUDE tone! We were finally scheduled for June 3rd at 8am.  The crew showed up right on time.  They were very polite and went right to work.  Mind you, this was an Oak tree over 100 ft tall.  We had to have a huge crane come through the side yard into the back yard.  Not an easy job and we expected our yard to show some wear.  As the day went on we learned only two of the guys work full time and the other ones are just help on the weekends.  One of the two full time guys dug our yard to hell and back using a fork on a ditch witch.  He was trying to pick up logs length wise with the fork and they would fall through.  Instead of moving around to the other side of the log to pick it up width wise he kept digging the forks into the yard and tearing it up more and more.  Come to find out he's only been on the job for two months and doesn't have the proper training.  I advised the owner in a text message and got a nasty gram back.  I told her I was only providing some feedback since she wasn't there to see the fiasco and the mess in our yard and it was obvious the other worker was more than aggravated as well. They crew quit for the day and had to come back the next day to finish.     I was told they would be there before noon.  They didn't show up until after 2pm.  The excuse was because they had a hard time finding the material needed to repair the driveway where the crane put a big rut in it.  Why not have one guy there to grind the stump and remove the logs while the other went for materials I will never understand.    The driveway wasn't not the most important item of the day.  This day too was a nightmare!  The guys are using some of their own equipment and would have to drive over an hour away to go get another piece of equipment, come back and then leave again for something else.  While the work was winding down, I get a text message from the owner asking me to make payment and give it to the staff before they leave.  I told her no, we had to go to the bank, transfer funds and we would mail it the following day (mind you it was Sunday).  She wrote back and said the estimate says it's due upon completion.  While she was writing back I had left for the bank and wrote her back saying no, the estimate says payment needs to be postmarked at the end of completion, however I was at the bank dealing with it.  She then wrote again and said, it says it is due upon completion and if not postmarked that day a late fee is charged.  Well,  again, it was SUNDAY the post office was closed!  It would have been postmarked the following business day AFTER COMPLETION...and HERE'S THE KICKER....her estimate, that I signed says: PLEASE DO NOT GIVE PAYMENTS TO THE STAFF  I have much more on this review but it won't let me post it all. In the end, I was pleased with the final result of the completed work, but unfortunately it took weeks to complete the job. There were some factors which were out of their control such a weather that delayed the process. But one main bump in the road came when the guys left after completing the job, and we go out to check it out and we see the job was not really done, there were still stumps in the ground. Mary Ann was very responsive to my emails and the issue was remedied within a few days. She is certainly professional and cares about her customers. Overall, I would definitely revisit this company for future tree removal needs. read more

I just pulled up to my house and took a walk around the yard and I have to say I cannot remember a time where I have been more pleased with a contractor. Your people did a wonderful job. The cleanup was superb. I can barely tell they were here except for the saw dust. It looks better than any expectation I had. I swear I think even the trees were smiling. Was interested in hiring this company for various removal and tree maintenance service at my residence. Apparently they weren't as interested in being hired. After a month of patiently awaiting an estimate they informed me that, due to human resource issues, they were no longer accepting new work. Probably would have been less irritating if they would have told me up front. I consider Merriman Tree and Stump the best tree service company in the city! They have done work for us a number of times, and it was all excellent, done on time as promised and at a most reasonable price. Their crews are courteous, diligent, utterly professional, and their equipment is top notch. They recently removed a large dead maple tree from our front yard: 50-feet tall and 4-feet wide at the trunk. Using a high-lift they cut down the tree, ground the stump and removed all debris in about a half day. Mary Ann is an honorable lady and her word is her bond!
