This is not professional. I was so worried. Come to find out my child made a picture out of the test where you fill in dots on this important test, while almost acing the reading and math, therefore, they assumed his memory wasn't working right. I met with them and said "really? **** aces (98s) in reading and math, but you think his memory isn't working?" I also specifically told them not to give him extra work during school so they could figure this out, but I learned after the year was over that they did in fact give him extra work. I guess they didn't believe me when I told them my ******* thought it was a stupid test so he drew pictures. With that said, however, they do have some really good teachers there, but also some terrible ones too. I suggest you learn which ones are good and make sure your child is in that room. Sorry, I wish I could remember their names, but it's been too long now.

The Brophy Elementary school is a wonderful learning environment for kids!…read more This school has an amazing culture. The new principal, Mr. Rothwell, staff and teachers are dedicated caring passionate people. They do go the extra mile to foster a warm, loving, safe environment for the kids to grow, learn and develop in. We moved here and didn't know a lot about the schools. The guidance counselor, Mr. Hintz, warmly greeted us and gave us a tour and answered our questions when we were going through the school choice process. The enthusiasm around the school is contagious. Typically a word you don't want to hear about when it comes to schools. However you, your child, and your family are bound to catch it. Parents are friendly and welcoming, whether they are part of the PTO or just coming and going to and from the school. There is plenty of room with large play yards and play structures. Ample parking and a very safe drop off and pick up process. Pleasant street can be a bit busy so drive with care during school hours. Check in at the office and your bound to find more friendly faces willing to help you out. Ms. Silverman is incredible and keeps things pulled together and moving smoothly. If you need help or have questions the health educator, Ms. Kinsella, and nurse, Ms. Pratt, are also ready and willing to step in and put your child at ease. Mr. Wisneski is an outstanding person who does not only teach but brings fun, I mean fun, into the class every day. Every person I spoke to before the beginning of the year had so many wonderful things to say that it helped put my mind at ease. Given our short time at this school I don't know each and every teacher. However, they all work together for the kids and fold them all in. Everyone at Brophy has helped to make the transition smooth, fun, and easy. How can you not learn when you are having fun and excited to be there? So the down fall, if there is one, is the kids grow up and move on.

My kids can't pick a favorite teacher because they've loved them all. My kids have grown tremendously both socially and academically. But once he started at the Phoenix School, things turned around. He came home after the first day and said, "It's like the teachers aren't even teachers--they're just people!" The caring relationship with his teachers, the community at the school, the way his teachers push him to do more than he thought he could and support him as he learns to push himself has been amazing. He loves school now and is thriving academically, socially, and emotionally. The way they integrate learning across all their activities is special. Students learn all the academic skills throughout all their activities, along with specialized practice in, say, math or writing, especially as they get older. They also use the community at large as their classroom with frequent out-of-the-classroom learning experiences that engage students far more than anything I've seen at any other school. Teachers support students as they produce high-quality work, with autonomy and ownership over their own learning. Teachers are among the most dedicated professional educators I've ever met. They work hard to create a community of students, faculty, staff, parents, and community members dedicated to the well-being and education of students as complete people. Last year I had two in camp and they loved every day and every adventure. This year I have a niece there and she cannot wait for more boating, fishing, whale watching, learning....the captain is teaching them about the sea by showing them step by step. they pulled up lobster traps, fillet fish, caught sharks, rode alongside dolphins-total fun for kids. What really amazes me is the amount of knowledge they come home with and the level of respect they gain for ocean life and its importance. Great job by both captains and their family. Great crew.
