I had a wonderful experience with Dr. Villa when I brought my newly diagnosed diabetic cat in. After having had a terrible experience with an Animal Hospital in Wantagh, I went to Merrick Vet Group as a last resort. Dr Villa saved my cat's life by addressing my concerns and fears with patience and guidance which empowered me to be able to administer the insulin he needs. The receptionist and the vet tech were also both very sweet and caring. I highly recommend this practice. read more

Do not bring your dog here Dr marder is a horrible vet all he wants is your money does not care about your animal, was told to stop talking and hand over 600 bucks for testing for allergies. When he's treated her for 1 year on different medications. Run as fast as you can he should not be practicing or handling animals. read more

DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE AT ALL!!! Don't bring your animals here or board them here unless you want them to come home in worse condition then you left them in. They are kept in small metal cages ( three sides are metal walls) and they are in the cages most of the day. The animals are left alone in the cages about 15 hours overnight . Horrible!! The place looks the same as it did in the 1990s when I brought my dog there! It needs a serious update!! They are overpriced for all services! Its definitely worth spending a little more money on an actual boarding facility then to leave your dog at a place that only cares about getting your money and not taking care of your animals for extended periods of time. I have been brining my pets here for the last few years. I am always welcomed by a warm staff who show their love for the animals as soon as you walk in. Yesterday I brought my new kitten in. She has ringworm. Dr. Villa was not only very professional as she outlined the course of action that needed to be taken, she also was very loving and kind to Skye and very warm to me. Once in a while, one finds someone who truly deserves the title 'hero'. They don't wear capes, tights or bold letters on their chests, my hero wears a sport shirt with a white coat over it. Let me tell you about Roxanne's vet, Dr. May. When Rox was 9 yrs old, about 2 1/2 yrs ago, I was told she had a heart murmur. The cardiologist vet prescribed enalapril and said 'see you in a year'. When I took her for a follow up at my old vet, I didn't see him, I saw his 'associate'. When asked about Roxanne's prognosis, this twit told me 'she'll probably live a year'. It was like a jolt to my heart. I cried all the way home, my little girl lying on the seat next to me, looking at me with that 'what's wrong mommy' expression they get. I told some friends and the son of one of my friends said, 'Go see Dr. May.' Best thing I ever did! When told what the twit told me, he said, 'Young, recently graduated from vet school? Let me just say this...bullshit! I'm not going to let this girl die. How's that!' And he didn't. Yes, Roxanne has been taking three pills every morning and night, and after a month of wheezing, I brought her to see him yesterday. After an X-ray, Dr May told me that she has, as she always had, the curse of the breed, a collapsed trachea. This is the reason we hear that goose cough they do. But age does make it worse. Dr. May said we have two options, we can try a new med that helps open the bronchial tubes, and if that doesn't work, there are two veterinary surgeons who are very successful putting a shunt into the trachea. They are Cornell grads like he is, and perfected doing this method microscopically. Yesterday, I started Rox on the new meds, yup, she now gets four pills twice a day, (she's catching up to me). Today, my old girl ran around like a puppy, playing with toys she hasn't touched in months. Yes, Virginia, there are heroes in this world! read more

I am giving this establishment 1 star even though I don't want to give any.... I cannot and will never recommend this place. This is a copy of an email that I did send to them. I have decided to go public today after 10 days without a reply. August 27, 2018 Good morning It has taken me almost a month since I picked up Charlie from you to write this letter. I am choosing my words carefully since I was and still am upset with how he was upon coming home. To give you a little history I normally board my Charlie with my vet. My vet was booked and therefore I had to look for another place for him to stay. After doing some investigation I came upon your place. I did go to your establishment and felt it would be fine since it seemed low key. I did explain Charlie does get anxious so it was important that I feel secure leaving him. I felt since you are a vet and if there were any problems you could contact his vet. When I made his reservations, I was informed that he would need a flu shot. Even though my vet doesn't feel it is necessary I agreed. Then I was informed Charlie would also need to be examined by the vet even though he had a complete physical 3 weeks earlier with his vet. I agreed to that. As I arrived home after leaving him with you I received a call that he also needed a lepo shot and a fecal sample... I had no choice at that point to agree to that. Of course, this increased the bill even more. What I found even more disturbing than an inflated bill was his condition when we picked him up... My son went to pet him and he ducked, more than once as if he was going to get hit. In all the years he was boarded at his vet he came home with his tail wagging, very happy. On top of that he came home with a raw patch about 6 inches long on his front leg and a front tooth broken at the gum. So on top of the exorbitant bill I received from your establishment I had to have him checked out by his vet. He had to be placed on antibiotics and cortisone from a skin irritation that he picked up from being with you. I felt secure leaving my Charlie with you and now I wouldn't recommend you at all. Matter of fact I would discourage people from using you. I could have left him at PetSmart and saved money and I am sure he would have been in better condition in arriving home. Just for the record- his name is Charlie and his stay was July 20- July 28, 2018 *** Needless to say I will not be bringing him back for his booster for the flu even though it is paid for. read more

My 11yr old shih-tzu had sudden onset diarrhea with blood, loss of appetite, and had vomited. My vet is located in Mt Vernon, and although I love him dearly, I couldn't get to him without having to stop a million times on the way there because of the diarrhea (he was able to guide me via text to hold me over until I could get to the vet that my colleague recommended). I was able to get an appointment the next morning with Dr. Villa. Heather, the receptionist, was polite, friendly, and SO accommodating. She was just as polite and friendly in person! Dr. Villa examined and thoroughly explained what could be going on. She explained the protocol she was going to follow and why she wasnt going with alternate protocols unless necessary. I was completely comfortable and at ease from my initial call to the end of my visit. I have found a new local vet. Thank you! read more

100% do not recommend bringing a parrot to this veterinary group. They are inexperienced and over priced. All they did was weigh my parrot and then charged 93 dollars. Well guess what I could buy a weight at Target and do the same for less cost. Congratulations, this doctor went to Cornelle university to learn how to overcharge students on pet medical exam. Not only was I overcharged for the regular check up but also for the anaerobic bacteria culture. I am a researcher and I work at a research lab so I know exactly how all this works. Charging a student 135 dollars extra for a culture they do not need well thank you so much and I hope this review helps with all the money you drained me. read more

Just a quick post: I take my cats to Dr May. We generally use the Roslyn office because we live on the North Shore, but Dr May is also affiliated with this office as well! Number 1 veterinary group with the most caring and knowledgeable staff! There is always at least one dr either Dr Marder Dr May or Dr Vila on call 24 hrs a day. I will start off by saying if you have a sick animal that needs Immediate attention and help or want to keep a healthy animal this is the worst Veterinary Group to take your animal too. My dog has been going to this vet for years. This past weekend she had fallen ill, when we rushed her over there not only did they make us wait in the lobby for 20min with a very sick animal that couldn't even walk but when the Dr. finally came to see her, her first reaction was ohh how are we going to get her upstairs to take an x-ray, how can they have such un-equipped drs working there that don't have the physical ability nor did the facility have an elevator or any way to get my dog which was a bigger dog up to the x-ray room, we had to carry her up there ourselves. once she finally got her x-rays, instead of calling us to go up there to carry her back down made a very weak dog walk down the stairs she then had no answers to why the dog was sick, the Dr. not only had no answers every time we asked a question of could it be this or could it be that her answer was "well could be" but did not pull any blood work on her that day because she had had blood work done the prior week, when asked how was her previous blood work she flipped threw the pages quickly and said it looks fine. with no real answers she told us to take our dog home and if she doesn't appear to be better to take her to an emergency clinic. my dog was very dehydrated and couldn't walk and when I asked her if she needed an IV I was told she didn't think so she then told us that it could be a possible heat stroke, but what vet would not want to keep ur animal for observation if that was the situation, but since I am not a vet and I was listening to a so called professional I did what I was told because they are apparently trained dr's and took my dog home because they made me feel as if she should be ok and this would all pass in a few hours. later that evening my dog took a turn for the worst and ended up passing away. If this vet would have only took the time to actually be a vet my dog and best friend would still be here. pets are family members and I am devastated by the loss of my dog all do to the neglect of a dr that had no answers and didn't look for any. so please think twice before ever taking ur animals to this veterinary group. read more

I boarded my cat for a week at the Merrick Veterinary Group with the recommendation of a friend. Dr. Villa and her assistant turned my very timid 13 year old cat into a very frightened cat while weighing and vaccinating him. They were very rough in their handling of him. Never experienced anything like that before. I made numerous calls during the week. Was told he had his towel and was given a box to shelter in. When I went to pick him up at the scheduled time, the doctor was not there yet. The receptionist told me I could go back to see him. I found him in a dirty cage with a pool of blood at the bottom of the cage door. His paw was injured and he was so happy to see us. There was no box and his towel and pillow were in another cage. The assistant came in and he immediately growled. She told me he had lost a claw the night before. They didn't even clean it the night before. He is now fighting an infection. read more
