I cannot so enough about the owner Dennis. I am retired (74+) and my ten year old 55 gallon…read moreaquarium combo developed a slow leak, soaking the stand and flooring underneath (fortunately Port Costa brick -- no mold: unfortunately hard as --well, brick ). Made an appointment with Dennis and he was here at exactly the time promised on his way back from several jobs on the coast. I was so worried that the stand would collapse and smash my whole aquatic community to smithereenes. Dennis quickly diagnosed the problem, calmed me down, and gently removed my ten-year old fish including a large pleco which has sharp spines. I had a new 60 gallon tall aquarium/stand combo that I was lucky enough to get at PetSmart (floor model) 50% off which gave me 5 more gallons yet accommodated all my old equipment. Dennis said it was a good tank (that was very re-assuring) and that by buying the aquarium as a combo was a good decision as it was advantageous for the guarantee. Dennis was so kind and caring as he realized that this was very stressful for me on top of recently losing a loved one. He walked me through every step as to what and why he was doing things certain ways: even learned that fish sleep and I should be turning off the lighting at night! Cannot say enough about his knowledge, character, kindness and empathy. Dennis knows everything about fish and their environs: water ph, aeration and the importance of microbes and friendly bacteria's for specific fish families. He left me with some important suggestions which I will follow to the "T". It was a rare privilege to work with a person that really cares about his customers and their individual needs. Bottom line: Dennis's people skills and excellent knowledge makes his service more valuable than 'as good as it gets'. How about a '6'?

I like everything about Tyler. I have him on a once-a-month schedule just to make sure the tank…read moreis not going astray and to provide counsel on my endless list of issues and questions. We schedule his visits together a month in advance and he invariably shows up as scheduled and on time. If something should come up on his end (rarely happens), he lets me know in a timely fashion so that I am not sitting around waiting for him. In between visits, if I text him with a question, he responds immediately -- as in within a minute or two -- every single time. This has come in very handy when I am shopping for critters and need his advice on a purchase. I can send him a picture and get an immediate thumbs up or down before I leave the store. Tyler is extremely knowledgeable. He seems to know all there is to know about every fish, invertebrate, or coral. He is unhesitating in giving his opinion on what is good for the tank, which often includes reining me in on impulse purchases. I like the fact that he knows the genus and species of every aquarium denizen, for I think that reflects a real passion for what he does. I also appreciate the fact that he respects our health and safety. He wears a mask every time he enters the house and keeps it on for the entire visit. I recommend Tyler in the strongest possible terms. Did I mention that his rates are very reasonable? His rates are very reasonable.

I cannot say enough good things about Tyler Albrecht, at Sublime Aquarian Care. Tyler has been…read moretaking care of my pond for 3-4 years, coming every 3 months or so to work his magic--cleaning it, checking the motor and the UV light, diagnosing problems, recommending what equipment I need to maintain it (always sending me the appropriate links), and generally looking after the pond as though it were his first cousin. Tyler is so reliable--he was always punctual and never missed a scheduled visit. He quickly diagnosed and fixed 2 (maybe 3?) pond emergencies (heavy-duty overflows due to rain or other factors), coming over within a few hours of my frantic messages that the pond was overflowing into my yard, the neighbors yard and the sidewalk. He is talented, responsible, intelligent (every diagnosis he made when things weren't working perfectly was correct), friendly, reliable, and affordable. I do recommend him for your aquarium or water feature without reservation.

I have mixed feelings about Aqua Life Aquarium. The store itself was clean and well organized, and…read morethe staff I encountered seemed friendly. I also did not notice any dead fish, and the water in the tanks appeared clean. What concerned me was the setup of many of the tanks. When I walked in, particularly along the right side and walls, I noticed several tanks containing fairly large or numerous fish with what appeared to be little more than water and bare glass -- no substrate, plants, or places to hide that I could see. Several of the fish were bunched together in the corners. There were tanks toward the center with plants and more enrichment, so the difference was especially noticeable. I understand there may be reasons aquarium stores keep certain sales or holding tanks very simple, and I don't claim to know their individual care protocols. It was just surprising to see so many fish in such bare environments at a specialty aquarium store. I'm accustomed to seeing specialty stores provide more habitat and enrichment than the average chain pet store, not less. Overall, I wouldn't call this a terrible experience. The store was clean, organized, and the employees seemed pleasant. I simply left with some concerns about the fish environments I observed and would have felt much better seeing more hiding places or enrichment in the tanks.
