everything, its so terrible here, very stinky, I've been here two years and the amount of women that get dress coded for nothing is ridiculous, I have seen dudes with their whole badonkadonk and tiddies out. The amount of inappropriate comments coming from teachers with no reprocussions is wittewy cwazy. And most of the hope squad does jack diddly squat about our suicide rate, they "save lives" when in reality it makes me want to swing from a ceiling more. The food is overall bad and they don't care to get a grant for free lunches, 3 dollars for a sub par lunch is quite literally theft. The hope squad knows nothing about self harm and supporting people who are suffering, they are like little goons for the counselors that are also terrible at preventing suicide, one of the counselors just stares at you and tells you about the things he's making for his wife while you sit there. Yes some older members of hope squad are supa alpha and a hopie I would like to shout out is Addi and she is so sigma, she actually cares about helping people and not just getting the free trips to sodalicious or wherever they go. Also keeping parents in the dark about a drug planting in a kids car and calling it a school shooting, they put the kids in an extreme state of anxiety because they wanted to save face?? and they told the staff to not tell the kids that there wasn t a school shooting to try and calm the situation. Also keeping everyone in the dark because they would rather have an out of pocket shooter drill where they said "k9s are out because that's a part of the drill" when no school uses k9s for shooter drills than fess up and say that the school has a drug problem. anyway this school has a terrible drug problem save the 250 dollars and dont enroll here. read more

I have had to take up the responsibility of student government. because most of the student body overall leaders and im just a senior rep over all i love the school and a lot of the kids and teachers are amazing. we need to fix the dress code its not the 1950s. read more

i've come to this this cool since seventh grade. On my first year it was great, teachers where great, the lunch was good and the students were nice for the most part. but just last year there were many issues. for starters the principle left, I'm not sure if that's good or bad, because he has no education degree. the second thing was so many of the teachers left right after, they were never able to express themselves how they wanted. as of this very year they have gone through 3 different principals. there is only a small handful or good hardworking teachers. This school is crumbling to the ground. its not a good high school experience. the counselor's constantly don't let the students graduate early, even if they have the required credits. The office administration will go out of they're way to seem right in every situation, even if they are clearly wrong, often punishing students with in school suspension for the smallest reasons, maybe just to feel more powerful, idk. please save yours and your child's time by not applying them to this sinking ship of a school. read more

I am a student who has been ready to graduate this year and must say that my overall ending experience isn't the greatest. While the teachers and students I know and get to work with on a daily basis are each amazing individuals, the schools lackness for dress code on modesty, but most especially the board of directors, are not fit for their position as none of them have been inside an actual classroom. Us students to the board are treated more of numbers and not individuals. For example there is a program called attendance school or in school suspension; which makes you miss class in order to make up for class you missed, therefore going on in an endless cycle, not even giving care to whatever said students situation maybe, whether it be family, sickness, or other problems. And if you choose to not meet the criteria of attending this prison of attendance school, you have a high chance and possibility of being arrested. Just simple for not attending school. While the concept of keeping people in school or "Education" is great, it is NEVER great when us students are treated as numbers and not individuals. None of the decisions in which the school board has made have ever been good, and anyone who has protested against their decisions (Mainly teachers) have either left, retired or been fired because they didn't agree with the school board. Just recently our director Dr. Meeks was fired because he was being too "Slack" on the grading system when he was the one choosing to actually see students as people. Anyone who got a percentage score below a C would receive a no credit score. Ask other students about it, and how it actually helped them a lot more in being motivated to actually pass classes or get better grades though grades do not EVER determine how smart you are. Another example of a stupid decision the board has made, it is called the 20/20 rule. You cannot leave the first 20 minutes or last 20 minutes of class to get checked out of school or use the restroom or do anything outside of the classroom of any kind. Quite honestly for me as a 18 year old legal adult, it feels absolutely ridiculous. All of us in high school are teenagers, and if we were actually treated like adults and not babied for everything, then maybe you'd actually get a better response and learning experience from us?! The man that has been selected as the new director while I can respect him as a good person, he unfit and underqualified for his position, supposing to be even someone professionally trained as an I.T. person, he hardly knows what he is doing. The school has been trying to take better action against bullying but still hasn't done much about it. Though the teachers and some students efforts are greatly appreciated and have helped, as I have also joined in trying to help out in this matter. Highschool clicks per say are a lot less, but they are slowly growing as Merit admin/school board is desperate for the number of students they get since the number they have will determine how much state funding they receive. Though I get to work with many other students on a daily basis, and all of them are amazing individuals. This also includes all of the staff, as all of them are very kind, and amazing individuals. Though for many decisions of admin I do not agree with, I can respect them as people with good lives. It's usually pretty easy here to make new friends every day, and Merit's HOPE squad and student council members are really helpful too. KEEP IN MIND that this review I leave is mainly focused towards the board of directors and admin. Please do not let this review determine whether or not you will go here, for it is for you to decide. HOWEVER, if you plan on being a teacher here, expect to have many frustrations with the school board/Admin, though you will be able to have a good time making new friends with the other teachers and even the students here :) read more

Honestly, I would prefer to not go here. The only thing keeping me here is the fact that it's a charter school. I left for a semester last year to go to SHS and I was too overwhelmed by the amount of people so I came back, mostly for my friends. First of all, the dress code is absolutely ridiculous and sexist. Athletes can wear whatever they want and it's fine. Sweats aren't allowed UNLESS you're on a sports team. One of cheer's things that they get is literally sweat pants, but if I were to wear it, I'd get into trouble THAT fast. You aren't allowed to wear leggings which is completely ridiculous. Do you know how expensive jeans are? Leggings are the majority of my wardrobe. Plus, jeans are hard to get a good fit in, whereas leggings are stretchy, and not to mention comfortable. You aren't supposed to have rips in your jeans. But I see guys walking around with giants gapes in their pants and it's fine, as long as the girls don't. Don't even get me started on bandanas. I'm sorry, they're "gang signs?" Yeah, maybe in the 80's! This is a square of fabric that I got from CHURCH CAMP! The least gang-like place. Also, foreign exchange students can wear whatever they want and get away with it, I have a whole bunch of pictures on my phone with proof. And that's just the dress code. The new grading system is a joke. It will make it harder for us to get scholarships because our report cards will say we got an A, while our transcripts say a B. This new system actually sets people up for failure. We don't get graded on our homework, so nobody does it. So when the test comes around, everyone fails because no one did their homework. We're supposed to use Friday's to do homework, but no one does. Don't get me wrong, I love having Friday's off, but the reason for it is incredibly stupid. My friend did the same thing that I did last year, we both went to SHS for a semester and then came back. We were absolutely students here last year, just for the last semester. But if you look in the 2019-2020 year book, you won't find us in there at all. Not our pictures, not our names, nothing. They didn't even bother. If this school is supposed to be a place where all can be included, they sure are doing a horrible job at it. Nothing says exclusion like leaving students out of the yearbook. When I moved to Springville and went to Reagan half way through sixth grade, they still took a picture of me and put it in there. When I came back to Merit half way through 10th grade, it didn't happen. The majority of the teachers are really nice and understanding, the others....not so much. I had to go to a college class during lunch and was told "no, it shouldn't start until 11:30" but she had just let two girls in the same college class go through, doesn't exactly make sense. And no, as far as I was aware, that class started at 11:20. I'm sorry, but I'm not going to be 10 minutes late to COLLEGE because lunch isn't over yet. And the 20/20 rule is beyond stupid. You have to have serious problems if you think you can control kids' bladders. If they have to go, they have to go. They shouldn't have to hold it for 20 minutes. Don't say the reason is because of sluffing. That's not a student problem. That's an administration problem. Maybe instead of cracking down on people's pants, you should try to make kids WANT to stay in class. And the drug use at this school is through the roof, I mean seriously. Instead of policing my crop top, maybe you should pay attention to the kids who are crying for help through drugs, or other mental health problems. Speaking of mental health, honestly, I feel like HOPE Squad is treated like STUCO. I don't see the connection between Where's Waldo and suicide prevention. It's a fun day to find friends, and would be a WONDERFUL STUCO thing, but it's honestly not suicide prevention and I was lowkey expecting more when I joined HOPE Squad. Speaking of STUCO, it's a popularity contest. That's all it is. And quite frankly, it's disappointing. Overall, this school is pretty awful and I would rather not be here, but it's my only option. The principle is a chiropractor, and doesn't have an education degree. The only reason it's 2 stars instead of 1 is because of teachers like Ms. Barlow and Xanthe. They make this place at least bearable. read more

hey suckers I'm a student at merit and i just wanna say DEEZ NUTS. most of the schools food looks like it got squeezed out of a rhinos ass that also as STDs for god knows why. the teachers are pretty cool. They don't give out exactly that much homework, besides math class. there are always fun conversations written on the bathroom walls. there are also classes for if ur stupid and aren't caught up on their work. Its also really nice that occasionally you will find some chick in the boys bathroom wanting to give head, they do a good job at it too. read more
